Rumor is if you bring it up you'll get fired or ostracized from the cliques you need to ingratiate yourself in to improve your standing at the company.
haters going to hate... i bought 10 copies
im so iffy on the monetization. It's effectively like a paid game, but people are so used to having a free entry into card games these days so there's some cloudy thoughts about it. I think it has potential
In card games you buy cards. You get to keep them due to them being physical and there is at least some justification in their cost due to needing to produce a large variety of types to be functional and dynamic. In a virtual card game past development there is effectively no cost to distribute. Attempting to conflate the two together is nonsensical because in one instance you actually own what you buy.
I was almost on board with it till I heard there's no way to constantly grind packs without money, that's kinda nuts for even a F2P game let alone one that's 20 dollarydoos. Guess I can stay hopeful that there will be some kind of backlash and rework on the monitization but it is modern Valve.
Thinking back, Garfield despised the skinner box system and it has been assumed that he is the one who convinced Valve to rid grind altogether. I think having the game to allow grinding for packs will put forth they looming 'routine' mentality where you have to devote time to the game on a daily basis and that can be very draining. Eliminating it rids that experience entirely, nobody in their right mind won't grind / login every other day to save a few bucks. In addition, from a business standpoint, it also makes the game 'cheaper' for your average player. In typical f2p, the common amount of players who spend usually borders around <5%, so the prices generally hike to account for the 'freeloaders'. f2p model understands the time/commitment dynamic, people who invest time into the game gives context to the people who spend, and in the spirit of competition, the 'economy'(company's bank account) bloats with players putting more resource (time/money) into the game. Premium models do not have this. Sadly I don't think they really have a right to enforce that ideal with the current monetization. I can understand wanting to keep the 'collection' and 'trading' side of things but f2p has spoil so many already just either give us all the cards for a price or sell REALLY cheap m8.
Valve should start a Casino
It's called CS:GO
They pretty much already have. Valve have actually found a way to make slot machines even more predatory by removing the cost of having to pay out to the rare winner.
are you genuinley insane enough to think CSGO followed CoD's trend when the counter strike series is almost five years older than the call of duty franchise
Turns out you can get starter cards and heroes in the packs you buy, and you can't resell them. There is also no free draft you have to pay to play every single match of competitive mode.
God, I hope this crashes and burns. I'm not counting on it though.
You can sell the 'commons' but they are worthless so nobody will buy them. Everyone's up in arms over no draft user-tournaments. Valve lost their fucking mind if they think they can get away with it.
err I'd say Dota 2 did copy a few things from LoL. both copy each other anyway so ehh CS:GO though, plays completely different.
Why did you buy 10 of the game?
im rich
Can you give the extra copies out? Make a raffle or something?
CSGO is more like one of those Chinese or Korean F2P shooters than CoD.
Congrats bro, hope you enjoy when every single game you play will force you to pay 99 cents for a single keypress and allows people to instantly win and have admin guns if they pay enough money for it while autobanning anyone who tries to play for free for long enough standing still.
sure you could just ask for a copy nicely instead of getting jealous............
No thanks I'm good.
spare me a copy im poor and i wanna play with my friends
Save yourself while you still can from the card thingies!
you can get the game and just play phantom draft for free forever
i just want a cool game to play and spend my free time with that isn't any of my other current games B(
Bad news
uhm, the other way around...
Yes and no, those F2P shooters copied the gameplay of the good Counter Strike games and added in a microtransaction based business model, Valve decided to take mod support out back and shoot it so they could add that business model on top of the initial upfront charge.
imcomparable those Freemium shooters completely gouge you of your money over weapons CSGO doesn't forces you into anything, other than mod support not existing
