No VoiceoverPete nomination for trending gamer? For shame, Geoff
Hope Bryan Dechart wins best performance. He and Hank were so far and away the best part of Detroit. And I'm not just saying that because the rest was... well... a David Cage game. His performance was legitimately great.
And the man's just an absolute delight to boot.

Big agree If there's one great part of that game, it's Connor and Hank's relationship, and that's a lot thanks to his performance.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see Monster Hunter World nominated for Game Of The Year. I know it probably won't win GOTY, but it's a good step forward to a franchise that's been fairly niche for most of it's life. Hopefully it'll get Best RPG.
Was 2018 a very slow year? Feels a bit weird that Spider-Man, RDR2 and God of War are nominated in every category.
Also, is Celeste THAT good to be nominated as THE Indie game of the year and even GOTY?
Yes, Celeste was certainly good enough to be nominated. Probably doesn't stand a chance to win GOTY, though.
Personally I think 2018 has been a rather poor year for games. Maybe it's just because I don't like playing on console, but even then the only GOTY nominee I have a significant level of interest in is God of War 4.
At least 2019 is looking to be a really good year. REmake 2, Metro Exodus, Sekiro, RAGE 2, goddamn DOOM Eternal, the list goes on.
So disappointed that the OTHER game that came out on the same week as RDR2 got snubbed
TIL this was developed by the same people as the GBA ports of DOOM I and II.
A friendly reminder that this is the only game awards show that matters.
The VGAs are pretty much only good for the game announcements and the 'fuck the Oscars' tier antics. It's a nice thing to tide gamers over between Gamescom in the fall and Pax East in the spring.
Is it that time of the year where everybody says that the awards are bullshit and rigged and that they don't care about them, then get mad when they're announced anyway?
I hope to see some sort of honors for TotalBiscuit this year. Surprised to see him not even mentioned once in all the eSports stuff (which otherwise has no business being this prevalent).
In other news, I imagine SSBU will be part of next year's awards since I don't see it here anywhere, and I'd have imagined it to be a shoo-in as at least a contender in the fighting category. DBFZ will probably run away with that one, then.
One last note, I'm a bit disappointed to not see Distance in the racing, indie, or student categories this year (or Runner3 for that matter as far as indies are concerned). Finally exited early access this year and it knocked my socks off.
There are no Bethesda games

Can't argue with that
Overwatch is going to win everything esports related again.
I didn't realize how boring this year has been for video games
It doesn't feel like there were many noteworthy games.
Eh, that's normal for the year before a generational transition. Think of how quiet Nintendo's 2016 was while Switch was still under the "NX" veil and Wii U had just been left to rot without Iwata around to bat for it. PS4/Xbone might not have been as unfortunate, but a lot of signs are pointing to Sony and Microsoft gearing up for their Gen9 consoles - that's Project Scarlet for Microsoft, and meanwhile there are reports that the disappointment of Vega was due to Sony pushing AMD to move their GPU budget towards getting Navi ready for PS5. We'll probably see reveals for both systems next year; I'd guess E3 or a month or so before. Meanwhile, Switch itself has been focused on the lead-up to Smash all year after its big launch-year blowout in 2017.
As for PC and mobile... Eh, there's some interesting new hardware on the horizon for each, but the mobile games market is an unsalvageable cesspool and the PC games market... well, Valve certainly seems preoccupied with making sure Steam isn't far off from that; ain't like they're making anything worth playing at the moment. Meanwhile Bethesda says TES6 is a while out and ActiBlizz is chugging along happily with regular Overwatch updates. That's about all I can think of as far as PC games are concerned. Maybe some RTS that I'm forgetting is on the horizon or something?
Having played 20+ hours of each of those games I can say that they're all really damn good though. Sure they're massive tentpole releases with budgets rivalling the GDP of small countries, but they're still pretty amazing works of art. Even AC Odyssey, which somehow managed to be the first AC game I ever enjoyed, including Black Flag tbh. It actually meta acknowledges how bs AC has been in the past, and outright states it wants to put that in the past and be better too.
I know there's been lots of cool indie games this year, but this comes up every year: a game isn't undeserving of praise just because it's popular and expensive. Popularity and cost doesn't inherently mean good, but it sure as shit doesn't automatically mean it's a soulless corporate product. In some games like AC Odyssey there's a lot of cool stuff hidden under the soulless corporate parts. There's this entire optional island in Odyssey which has a plot so well written that the Witcher 3 couldn't do it better. But it's 15-20 hours into a massive sprawling open world™ game. But in others like God of War it's pretty obvious that despite being a major Sony 1st party exclusive it's something special, start to finish.
Only nominees i have played are Battletech, The Missing and Megaman 11
im so out of the loop
I wonder which game will be the Destiny 2 of this year and get cucked off of every single reward lmao
It's genuinely stupid as fuck that Warframe doesn't get to be nominated for best ongoing game. I guess ActiBlizz just threw fucking money at them to keep it out so that either Overwatch or Destiny could win.
Hope it fucking goes to Siege.
vote for THE MISSING, swery deserves some recognition
Not for me.
The only game awards that matters to me is THE MOMENT WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR
This year sucked dick for pc, but i could see spiderman winning a good chunk.
Really hope Mahut wins best VA for Kassandra, best assassin protag VA since Bayek.
The rest of these its literally; ass creed, RDR2, spiderman, god of war. And for indie, i really REALLY wished slay the spire or DUSK would have been some of the picks.
Also odyssey is nothing like the previous games since now theres loads of rpg mechanics and an entirely new assassin system that hides story targets throught the world dressed as civilians. Origins was like dipping your toes in the water while odyssey is jumping into a dive.
I feel like RDR2 is gonna win by default. God of War deserves a lot of those, really. I mean, it's largely half and half between those two, but RDR2 is gonna sweep it all by name recognition alone. WHich is kinda sad, because the recognition it deserves, is for what it does well, not for just being a household name in general, if that makes sense.
Meanwhile Octopath is somehow going to be able to take home best soundtrack (rightfully). I am 100% anticipating GoW getting none of what it deserves
Also. Best on-going game and they only do 4? what? Where's Warframe? Where's Monster Hunter?
