No more glorification of subhuman behavior, nice
Yeah there’s something wrong with the prison system but this human garbage still belongs in jail
oh man, a GUN CHARGE IN NEW YORK is possibly the worst place to have a gun charge in the us. new york doesn't fuck around and if they catch you with a gun you're going for at least 25 years minimum.
I want to preface this with saying I really don't fuck with mainstream rap like this, and I think xxx is a wife beating coward who deserves no praise. However to respond to the people failing to see how it relates to punk, I think this wave of music has good philosophical merit. The way I see it, they're the Pinnacle of capitalism. These rappers value nothing above material wealth, they're self-made and instantly become puppets to the oligarchs of record labels when offered. They clearly use the loud abrasive and youthful anger seen in punk music. Older generations look at them and think, how could this be what the newer generations are into? The answer rings throughout all their lyrics of pain-numbing drugs and money. Capitalism. It's eye-opening, it's loud, it's in your face, it's angry. It's punk. The message is not for everyone, and yes it leads to ruined lives, but that's the point. That's the misery brought on by capitalism, that's the full embrace of it. And I personally think it's pretty eye-opening when properly analyzed, even if 99% of the kids listening are just blind idiots being spoon-fed terrible lifestyles, the blame is to be put on capitalism and that's evident.
Pretty subjective. I listen to rap and I've never had the thought of robbing someone or selling/doing drugs? There are also plenty of rappers who have their own labels and hate the idea of being signed to anyone but themselves. I understand where you are coming from but you are seriously over generalising, rap isn't the problem. Society is. Go look at other famous people like rockstar's in the 90's, their entire thing was doing overwhelming amount of drugs, and even though most of the time they didn't sing about it, it was pretty widely known by everyone they were doing it. So like I said, I understand where you are coming from and there are always bad apples in every group, but for you to generalise it as rap in general is pretty unfair. It's a societal problem not a music problem.
80's*
80's and 90's both had high celebrity drug usage especially in the music industry. Just used the 90's as an example.
I thought you meant just the songs' meanings or whatever lol. I getcha.
He lost. Going to jail for 25 now
This comparison is such a misfire, I don't even know where to start. This is the complete antithesis to punk. Punk was all about rejecting excess, it was political, it gave a shit about the parts of society that got shat on by what they perceived to be the elite and other wankers. It had something to say. In a sense, it was music from the working for the working class. You can not use the phrase 'loud, abrasive and youthful anger' when describing a genre as slow and sleepy as this and it's a complete insult to punk by connecting the two. It doesn't have anything to do with anger, it doesn't have anything to do with a message and it sure as FUCK isn't eye-opening. It's just brag rap with a new coat of paint. It's self-indulgence with no regard for other people. Punk is all about us, the people who feel oppressed and want to fight back against these wankstains who look down on us. Garbage music like this is about me, who has a lot of money, does drugs and fucks your bitch.
At least it's not life, but it might be since I don't think he'll survive. What kind of jail he's going to? Federal?
That message sounds more incidental than intentional. Punk is explicitly anti-capitalist and anti-materialist and is very blunt and abrasive about its intentions. These people are just decadent idiots that punk would shit on. You make this sound like some grand performance art show about how materialism is bad, which if it was it was a complete failure because all it did was encourage these terrible lifestyles and ideals. If you can't get your message across effectively, you failed as an artist, but taking your word for it is giving them too much credit. It's not bigger than it is, which is just a bunch of asshole soundcloud rappers spreading a horrible message.
Source? I'm only seeing news of him being transferred from the prison he was in due to death threats
It's different if you actually encourage people to do crime, do crime yourself and/or otherwise partake in criminal conspiracies to commit crimes. But producing music and writing lyrics about possessing and consuming drugs, killing police officers or even fucking your mother should not, in any way, be considered as intent to do any of these things. You could see it as encouraging other people to do so, but I believe the artists should not be held responsible for anything other than their own (criminal) actions. While it's not entirely a fair comparison, but you could compare this to some death metal artists writing lyrics about killing babies or prostitutes. It should not be taken seriously nor as intent to actually kill babies. Now of course, the likelihood of a new-school rap artist consuming drugs is much more probable than a death metal artist killing the babies, but I think the point still stands. New-school rap artists are definitely some crazy-ass niggas, but IMHO they are free to produce and write to their hearts' contents. Music isn't going to hurt anyone, and even if you consider this as bad development or a bad trend, or pull out the "think of the children" card then I'd say it doesn't matter. It's not something you can control. And it's not like they are running for president either.
wouldn't you call that a rotting banana?
Might be the first mumble rapper to complete a sentence!
Modern rap isn't bad; it's mainstream, trap rap. Fuck, Kendrick Lamar might be probably one of the most important artists of our generation.
I was mostly referring to like mumble Soundcloud rap. Kendrick is one of the better newer rappers but he really isn't as great as some people claim he is, Damn especially was pretty meh and shallow lyrics wise, even my friend who's been a big Kendrick fan for years thought so. Problem I have with a lot of modern rap that gets praised for being deep and "woke" is that it just comes of as fake woke. This is American by Childish Gambino especially is a good example, it brings up how blacks get shot in America, which is something we all know happens, but offers no real commentary or solution to it, just a flashy video to seem deep. I'd argue that Ice-T was way more woke on the latest Bodycount album than most modern rappers and Bodycount isn't even rap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlk7o5T56iw
As shitty as this guy is, Gummo is still a banger.
Swear to god you're the embodiment of the boomer meme. https://puu.sh/CafED/ce113c709f.png Saying all rap is self indulgent is like saying Green Day is the best punk band and 21st Century Breakdown represents the best of punk.
Yes, because I was clearly talking about all rap in that post. You can tell from the fact that I said that exactly zero times.

Is it just physically impossible for you to type like a normal person?
It is entirely possible to write what you just did using a comma and two periods. This wouldn't even be an issue if damn near every pay you make is like this. Stop using periods for "emphasis", this is a first and final warning.
More like the music world has been swimming in drugs for as long as its a known business. One good, and imo somewhat funny example, is Demi Lovato, someone hailed as a bit of a pop princess with a good dab of feminism (despite working with Dj Khaled?!), so you'd expect her to be cleanish at minimum. Nope. Earlier this year, straight to rehab over a problem with booze, which iirc was actually drug OD being passed as alcohol abuse to not make her look as bad.
Somewhat less funny when you consider she suffers from bipolar disorder and bulimia. as well as an abusive relationship with her father. So no honestly I'd expect nothing of the sort :/
