My step-dad was literally arrested by Chinese police for taking pictures of some nice scenery because a military base was close by. He was interrogated for 4 hours. He couldn't speak Mandarin, so drew a picture of a man and pointed to himself with a quizzical impression
Did they at least let him keep his pictures?

You will have to forgive me, it can be difficult at times to determine tone with such brief statements; I could reasonably see someone claiming that. It's not exactly a "so hungry I can eat a horse" type hyperbole.
Besides, I got busted on a tad for mentioning NK here, and I didn't even draw a comparison. You must suffer too!
