That's for the citizenship application
It does, and when you become a citizen you swear an oath to the constitution swearing to die for it if asked to
that's fucking dumb
Soldiers and police officers have to take that oath too.
When me and my friends filled out this form, one of them accidentally ticked that he had the plague. Good thing we noticed.
its probably a leftover from when the draft was in effect
Selective service still exists, so
Even so, I wouldn't die for a piece of paper largely written by a bunch of slave owners in the 1700s. The approach to that thing is hilarious. It's written in stone, except when it isn't. It's the final word, except when it isn't. It's used to push a certain moral absolutism by interpreting the vague words of these cool dudes who believed in freedom and liberty and stuff, except when they didn't.
It's literally like a Klingon "you would not understand" thing. Americans in general tend to greatly respect our Constitution at the very least.
Have you ever engaged in any acts of terrorism? “Yes” If so, please explain: “I ate pineapple on pizza, and liked it.”
Imagine being a terrorist and fucking up by checking the box.
