I think I started my first go at GoW on the second highest difficulty. And the early game is a fucking farce, it just does not play well if you're not used to solid combat systems. You get two shot by almost everything, even the basic Dragur take a hell of a beating, and so god help you if you're not prepared for early game Revenants.
But yeah, you start to work out good tactics and tech to deal with some of the bullshit. And the game gets seriously enjoyable once you get into a flow of using those strategies you worked out. Almost everyone I know who's played it has their own bespoke way of dealing with enemies too. It's a really quite flexible combat system. Though once you get Atreus some upgrades in you're in stunlock city and only vastly over levelled enemies really cause you problems.
I've still not actually completed the story, despite the fact I can tell I'm maybe three quest parts away from it. There's tons of cool little bits and pieces to do in the world which kept me distracted. It deserves GotY easily compared to the competition.
excuse me how the fuck was black ops nominated for best audio design when shit like this exists in the game

blops4 sound besides the gunship is actually pretty good imo. I usually hate call of duty games but I got blops4 due to some friends and its probably the best CoD game since the first black ops.
