I'd say it's a damn great effort, give that thing a redesign, try to sort out the problems it causes and get back to it. Treating the project like it's harmful to science itself is far more stupid than going ahead and doing something that even had some foreseeable issues. If it gets treated like an early access game, then everyone should be scooping it up. Full of problems but promising for the future and Worthy of investment.

Or.. they could actually listen to Scientists and design something workable from the off. Not a paper tiger that was doomed to failure from the start because the concept itself is unworkable.
