I am 15 years old, and I’m from Sweden. I speak on behalf of Climate Justice Now! Many people say that Sweden is just a small country, and it doesn’t matter what we do. But I’ve learned that you are never too small to make a difference. And if a few children can get headlines all over the world just by not going to school, then imagine what we could all do together if we really wanted to. But to do that, we have to speak clearly, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. You only speak of green eternal economic growth because you are too scared of being unpopular. You only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency brake. You are not mature enough to tell it like it is. Even that burden you leave to us children. But I don’t care about being popular. I care about climate justice and the living planet. Our civilization is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money. Our biosphere is being sacrificed so that rich people in countries like mine can live in luxury. It is the sufferings of the many which pay for the luxuries of the few. The year 2078, I will celebrate my 75th birthday. If I have children, maybe they will spend that day with me. Maybe they will ask me about you. Maybe they will ask why you didn’t do anything while there still was time to act. You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes. Until you start focusing on what needs to be done, rather than what is politically possible, there is no hope. We cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis. We need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground, and we need to focus on equity. And if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, then maybe we should change the system itself. We have not come here to beg world leaders to care. You have ignored us in the past, and you will ignore us again. We have run out of excuses, and we are running out of time. We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not. The real power belongs to the people. Thank you. Two sources here since I couldn't find one that was clean enough for my liking.
and people call us zoomers stupid.
The people she's addressing that need to hear what she's saying do not care. At all
At this point it is almost an apocalyptic mindset. Some of them might see it as inevitable, potentially even good, and not worth worrying about it because not only are they all financially secure, but some of them won't even be there to see it happen. It's not their problem.
It's not a plead, it's a warning.
They hear her, and they don't care
Yeah, as shitty as our political system is, that produces these political 'reasons' not to do something, it is the best we've come up with so far. We could 'change the system,' but we do so potentially at our own peril. We need to make sure we change it intelligently. Perhaps some sort of global voting system for global issues, or enacting some principles that we must follow under pain of what, sanctions, military threat? It is unclear what organizational tools we should use for this beyond the age old top-down control. Bottom up control via raising awareness has only gotten us so far, and if we are to that then even that would require some sort of more assertive action. This bottom up approach has a good tendency to turn into chaos, and so is dangerous for different reasons than top-down approaches.
"Well I can assure you, nobody steals futures as good as I do. Nobody! And I do it without collusion aswell!"
Is that whole "understanding" thing also why you instantly dismissed all zoomers as being characterised by "20-second attention spans, the absolute quickest, on-demand average lifestyle, rejecting patience, rejecting restraint, rejecting consistency, rejecting responsibility, rejecting the old, embracing the new because it's new, embracing technology without learning how to use it, and [blaming] the mysterious spooky boomers who ruined everything for everyone"?
He's a zoomer with 20-second attention span.
Is zoomer the new millennial for gen z? I honestly haven't heard it before.
Yeah, it's in reference to how readily they adapt to technology as a whole compared to previous generations, though the label of Generation Z is far more common. (Starting with 1995, born right on or right after the rise of Windows over Macintosh, around the advent of disc-based media over tape, digital over analog, being brought up in an era where dialup was on it's way out in favor of cable or satellite, the rise of rechargeable handheld devices, etc. Whereas millenials were raised in a highly transitional era, from the political upheaval of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the paradigm shift of societal response after 9/11 to the overhaul of technology in nearly every sector into radically different formats, Generation Z has been into a much more stable period in that regard and thus with less change to adapt to, has been seen as more capable of learning at a quicker pace due to a stronger association with the internet and less association with obsolete technologies.)
Do you realize how completely asinine this statement sounds? Many people leading meaningful lives does not mean nobody is lading a meaningful life. Like what the fuck sort of shit logic is that? The only thing it means is that leading a meaningful life is no longer noteworthy and nothing more.
Born with a smartphone in their hand? Medal for participation? It sounds like you're attacking people for things they didnt choose. Reducing discrimination and making people feel included? In case you can't tell, that's actually a good thing. I'm not even going to bother with the rest of your ramblings.
Don't forget that the blame for participation trophies and that sort of other complete bullshit lies squarely with those who created them and not those they were awarded to anyways. So blaming Gen Zers for participation trophies is ass backwards. The blame would lie with Gen Xers or Baby Boomers or whatever generation might've been between the two of them.
Boomer: *awards kid participation trophy* Also Boomer: kids these days need participation trophies to get through life why are they like this
Cut him some slack, he hasn't yet collected Seen Enough Shit points to unlock Knowing How Things Work. Fortunately you can still See Shit and Know How Things Work regardless of ever having spent a moment on introspection or consideration on anything outside ones narrow perception, so the unquestionable wisdom of age is inevitable.
Who's fault is it that anyone gets a medal for participation?
Boomer: "Kids, you're in a changing world out there with a lot of new technology I wish I had when I was a kid!" Also Boomer: "Why are kids using new technology so often when we didn't at their age?!?"
Look out Zenron, there's a new sheriff in Using Paragraphs of Platitudes and Meaningless Pathos to Say Precisely Nothing Town
So to boil this down: "Here's your participation trophy that my generation decided to give out to you children! Why the fuck are you demanding participation trophies you spoiled brat?!?!?!"
So basically "fuck the zoomers for being given participation awards by older generations". Gotcha.
I know this is pointless but to answer your incredibly silly question, So, they don't bear responsibility for the decisions foisted unto them by others. This is straight forward. You are failing to follow even the most basic logic to act like the galaxy brain you always try to.
a reminder you are comparing children being given a trophy to the Nuremberg trials, just checking in case you forgot
Did you just compare fucking participation trophies to the holocaust
That just sounds like calling someone stupid with extra steps. This insight was brought to you by Rick and Morty
Who were they to question the more experienced officers who know more about the world?
If you were a boomer and you grew up when economy was on the rise, when hard work would earn you a house by the time you were 25 (or less, assuming you didn't do the college and just went for employment)... do you think you would have any different ideas in modern times? Would you honestly admit to yourself the economy is shrinking and things are actually going in a bad direction or would you just keep trying to sustain the growth by all means possible? It's a very human thing to project your early years onto the early years of the people from millenial/zoomer generation.
Oh, I didn't realize there was a second page. You're resorting to mockery, how mature of you... I think we all know who has won this argument. Receiving participation trophies is way different than a defense in court regarding genocide. Also I have no idea what kind of argument you're trying to form here because you just left a link and said nothing else. Are you attempting whataboutism?
Do you have a single fact, statistic or article to pack any of this crap up? Could you also inform me how a generation which mostly cannot vote CAN REJECT RESPONSIBILITY, especially since you're posting in a thread where they are taking responsibility and pushing for action on climate change?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
