That's not true. Sure, people don't change overnight, but even a one-sided conversation can productive. The human brain might react to being wrong the same way it does to being physically attacked, but yoy don't have to prove someone wrong to change thier views, just broadening them can help. Debate in good faith is the best tool to change hearts that there is.
Ultimately it's a throwaway joke not designed to be looked into for more than a few seconds but yeah basically
This is literally the 'not all men' argument.
Yeah this is what I wanted to say, honestly, but I held a lot back
Wow, you mus have such amazing self-control.
What do you actually mean by this
I was applauding your ability to “hold a lot back”
Not a real answer at all, but I'll drop it despite that
I saw the thread title and predicted there would be at least one altercation somehow. Let's focus on wahoo good news!! rather than the last few posts that seem determined to start shit by arguing over semantics.
Hot Woman Competes In Hot Woman Contest in an ideal world this wouldn't be news at all but as it is, I'm really really happy this worked out she's goals af
He's probably not going to answer because of the ban, but I can't say I'm not curious... why? I can't think of a single reason. This isn't like a weight lifting competition where you can argue about muscle mass, it's a beauty contest, it judges nothing but how well you fit into pre-existing beauty standards, being trans is only going to work against you. Or is it because she had to get plastic surgery? Because lmao if that's the problem then you better go ahead and disqualify every other pageant too
Spoiler: It's because he doesn't actually have "nothing" against transgender people.
That's an awful approach to such a controversial issue. Many people aren't educated on the basic ideas of being transgender. There's a huge population of people that have never even been knowingly exposed to someone who is trans - It's a difficult concept for someone to wrap their head around if they're used to interacting with only cisgender people their entire lives. It's not entirely unreasonable for someone to think a "real" woman is one who is biologically female - born with female genitalia, can go through pregnancy, etc. So, yeah, banning someone for being uneducated or carrying a political opinion that pisses off a mod is not fair. Kind of surprised that people are defending the transphobic image macro ban more than a mod just getting pissed over and shutting down an opportunity for discussion.
Yea well no, we have google for that, and especially Wikipedia. We don't have to debate and talk out with every single person, especially when their intends are for trolling / hating. Is very clear when someone wants to know about it and when it doesn't care. And this apply to many topics. Just kill already the "this person refused to debate me therefore I'm automatically right" thought.
Your join date is 2011, have you seriously never seen a transgender thread on Facepunch before? 99.999% of the time posts like that come from people who, at best, will double down when people explain why they're wrong. Plus a political opinion stops being an opinion when it's factually wrong anyways. If someone were to go around seriously touting flat Earth theory and trying to defend it as just an opinion they'd get banned for posting like a moron too.
"Transgenders aren't real men/women" doesn't seem like a great conversation starter.
we ban posts like those because opinions that stupid merit no engagement beyond "shut up and fuck off"
