Anyone that has logged into Fallout 76 in 2018 will get the original Fallout, Fallout 2 and the combat-focused Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel for free next month, Bethesda has
announced.
Players will get the games as part of the Fallout Classic Collection, and should be able to claim them in early January. The collection was initially available as a pre-order bonus for
Fallout 76.

And this will solve absolutely 0 of the issues people have with bethesda right now, nice job. Thanks for the free game anyways, nerds
Ah yes, give everyone who played this game and probably felt burned by it access to older titles that represent all the themes and design you've callously thrown in the trash over time, and especially when making this game.
A bold move.
Yeah it does kinda seem like a self defeating strategy doesn't it?
"Here's a taste of all that fun stuff we aren't interested in doing with the series now that we own it!, now don't you have 8 Nuka cola™ bottles to collect for that bottle bank "quest" ?"
"PLEASE buy our game!" - Bethesda
Like good for the people who were already conned into buying this shit, but this has not changed my mind on getting 76 at all.
But I already own the games on GOG, and would never want to download your shitty launcher just to buy your crappy game just to get extra free copies of something I already own, Bethesda.
Not to mention they're actually complete, fully realized and properly designed games that can be bought cheaply and individually or even together at a better price than owning FO76.
not WORTH
Already got all of these when the black isle rights ran out and they gave them away for free on GoG so go fuck yourself beth
It's so fucking pathetic that it's cathartic, "Please play our game! Just log in to our cynical, money-grabbing, barren excuse for an experience that nobody ever asked for. Just once please. We'll throw in these 3 games we can't hope to match in quality and whose legacy we shat on!". Being reduced to such a level is exactly what Bethesda deserve for their total complacency with their business practices and use of their dogshite engine; their complete disregard for what made the previous game interesting at each iteration; their absolute disrespect and consistent alienation of the fans that gave the series a market. I hope the negative press train they've been riding serves as the impetus for them to step up their shit, fix the fundemental issues with their products and business, and actually start making good games again.
Bold move to give your customers 3 other better games to make them play your shitty game
I feel the general audience for FO76 wouldn't even like the OG Fallouts.
Yeah, there's a reason OG fallout fans don't like 76, so I'd say the chances are pretty good that the feeling is mutual for fans of FO76 when it comes to Fallout 1 & 2.
And even on the off chance some of them gave the older games a try and actually found they really liked them, what good would that do Bethesda? aren't they actively trying to take the series in a completely different direction to the spirit of the original games?
Well no, It's pretty clear that Bethesda is trying to win back the good will of fans for BAGGING on them. I used the joke before but it's a good one.
The game's getting trashed, both for legitament reasons and kinda shitty misinformed ones. But also legitament reasons. It's a bit better now, but the game goes to shit whenever players for instance let off nukes (something that's supposed to be a big feature in this game)
Hell, a since-patched bug had this cave-dwelling Scorchbeast fly right through the cave ceiling because someone forgot to tweak it's AI nodes. And let's not forget that some side-quest didn't have collision on the thing you were supposed to turn it in on.
Do not buy the game in it's current state. Check back in a year. I run the F76 facepunch discord, so I should be the one to say this.
I'm vibrating with my own poorly-contained nerd rage over this move for exactly this reason.
If you could make a generator entirely powered on cynicism, this thread could power an entire continent.
At this point in the whole Fallout 76 debacle the moment the game is mentioned all traces of optimism get dragged out of whatever crevices of my headspace they were in to be lined up and shot.
They made a fucking spin off. They didn't shoot a baby.
Jesus Christ. You'd swear making one mediocre game means they are actively maiming people with the way people react to the game.
What a fucking worthless gesture lmao
you could buy all three for less and it'd be worth more
Just because it doesn't have a 5 in title doesn't mean it wasn't a triple-A product by their standards that they devoted a large amount of 'effort', money and otherwise into. They hyped it up as a bold and ambitious new move for their company, going towards the multiplayer angle fans have wanted for years, and then botched the landing. On top of it being priced at $60 at launch with microtransactions for pointless cosmetics at absurd prices that make Horse Armor look reasonable by comparison, the current probability that they'll add lootboxes in the future given the "lunchboxes" in the game code, and being a buggy, almost unplayable mess right around the same time they announced they'll be carrying the same engine with the usual upgrades and tweaks into Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI.
Whether you regard it as a spinoff or not, Bethesda showed their hand too hard with this one, and finally reached the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of fans. What we see and joke about as jank that's been around since Oblivion and Fallout 3 has finally reached the point that the mainstream audiences were exposed to it en masse through both playing the game and secondhand word spreading like wildfire. And despite their efforts to improve performance and patch the bugs, there's always some sort of catch, like how they made the grinding even worse in the midst of a patch, or introduced new bugs. It's also stretched the idea of a live service product to its logical breaking point, where no one really wants to stick around and see how the game turns out when it's fundamentally flawed to begin with.
Are some people overreacting or bandwagoning? Most certainly. But while this won't fold Bethesda over night, they've made too much money off of their previous games for that, this is the kind of thing that can potentially and permanently tarnish their reputation in the eyes of the main consumer base that's ignored a lot of the problems and issues over the years to enjoy these games. They fucked up, plain and simple, and they fucked up hard. Now only time will tell if they can repair that image, Zenimax as a publisher steps in and gets their grubby fingers tied into things more deeply like EA and Activision, or Bethesda's started a significant downhill descent they might never recover from.
I mean, the game was released in a completely unacceptable state. It snubbed the long standing fans of not just the Fallout franchise but of Bethesda's previous work to instead chase industry trends they thought would sell to the "lowest common denominator" audience.
Bethesda then managed to create a new anti-consumer controversy each week for it's first month after release.
Seriously Bethesda pulled false advertising, bullshots, Micro-transactions in a full priced release, and selling what they outright admitted was a glorified early access survival game for $60- all in the same product, and you are surprised that people have strong negative opinions about it?
And as I keep saying, Fallout 76's reception doesn't exist in a vacuum. Bethesda's fans have been complaining that their games were becoming more dumbed down and less polished for years now. Fallout 76 was just the point at which they finally managed to screw up badly enough that it finally alienated a lot of fans.
People used to make jokes and hyperbole that Bethesda would eventually make a game like fallout 76- and then they actually went and made it lmao
I don't see how anyone is acting like bethesda murdered a child lol- They took the piss one too many times and people got fed up with them. It seems like pretty standard disdain for games industry bullshit.
A few mediocre games actually.
The "chill out man it's just videogames" mentality is what brought us to this. Publishers are gonna keep pushing the envelope to see what they can get away with whether it's battlefront 2's pay to win to this blatant cash in of a game. If we just bend over and take it they're going to keep on fuckin shit up further. I really want another good fallout game.
The fanboy posts on the fo76 subreddit sicken me. Borderline stockholm syndrome shit. But I remember vehemently defending my purchases, whether it was call of duty vs battlefield or playstation vs xbox. At some point people will learn that we aren't their friends, we're customers and they'd more than gladly take any chance to squeeze every penny they can out of you.
Not only could i buy a half-way decent indie game for that at full price, i could buy several if they were on sale or a heavily discounted AAA game for that.
It's a rip off.
Then Beth themselves could power the world with F76. Nothing wrong with a bit of schadenfreude, it's more enjoyment than you could get out of the game its self.
F76 is a continuation of the trend - that is to say, downwards and more cynical - Beth put the series on and it's now reached the point it's plain to see for the average consumer. They're not actively maiming people, no, but they're still desperately trying to wring money out of out of a product with so many cut corners it's a wonder there's anything left at all. Bethesda are not your friends, they made this game because they thought they could put out a turd with the Fallout brand on it and people would still happily pay full price for it.
What if logging in January would instead fix the game?
This is why buying shit games is a waste.
Instead of playing a shitty game, you could play anything better.
but they already gave me fallout 1 and 2 earlier this year and I couldn't care about tactics
Excuse me sir.
How many times have those games been given away for free over the years? I know I have them and have not paid a cent for them.
Honestly, in a year there will be much better games worth buying.
