EA Revises Projected 2019 Earnings Following Poor Battlefield 5 Sales

Let's not forget the sudden crackdown on lootboxes in games and the high level of negativity surrounding them.
Combined with what you mentioned, the lack of whale magnets (lootboxes) is another stick in EA's throat. No "bonus" money from those unlucky enough to purchase this mess of a game.
I completely forgot about the body-dragging, interrogation, and customization they showed in the initial showings of the game. It really does seem like the scope and design were well on-track to something different than it was on release, and I just have to wonder what the hell happened at DICE between April and November
Also on the topic of DICE going the way of Westwood -
It would be suicide for EA to kill off one of their three main franchise (the others being Madden and FIFA). But if it did happen, DICE has enough influence and is such a powerhouse of technical and artistic skill that they would undoubtedly re-form under a new company and would probably find more success without EA's scheduling and meddling fucking them over constantly. And if they didn't, then DICE's death would probably severely fuck up the European game dev scene with the sudden influx of refugees from the AAA of AAA studios on the continent.
I hope they bankrupt. They can't keep getting away with making subpar games.
Battlefield V is fucking weird, it's obviously missing content (Content you can fucking see in gameplay footage posted by affiliated channels) As well as just, random chunks of obviously unfinished shit.
But my god it plays so well. Shooting is so satisfying, the vehicle gameplay is great, and the fortification and attrition system are amazing additions. If the game had been delayed like, four months and they added like four maps and a bunch more items (Seriously the medic class is LITERALLY UNFINISHED) it would easily be the best Battlefield game.
Soon DICE (and probably Bioware after Anthem flops) will be amassed into the blob of studios that EA has consumed for underperforming. The only studio that will be left is Respawn, who will probably have two last chances to prove themselves with that Star Wars game and Titanfall 3 before they are consumed themselves, rendering EA just an amorphous blob seeking more and more money.
It's a shame that as advanced as BF5 is and as beautiful it is, it just doesn't seem to have the same kind of soul as even BF4 or 3 had.
I got maybe 15hours in BF5 but it's just remarkably bland. But I'd blame sales more on the marketing who probably hurt sales than helped it.
The maps are probably the best functioning release pool of maps we've probably had in years, but dear lord are they very uninteresting thematically. BF1 at least had the charm of almost every map being based on historical battles that some of them were way too faithful to IRL and played piss poorly. The blandness is due to that as well as how a lot of the game is so blatantly unfinished.
To give an idea on how unfinished the game is, vehicle customization and even the game's in-game soundtrack weren't fully implemented/coded in until the December update. Even today, one customization aspect of tanks is still coming soon while you can't change the look of your tanker/pilot at all.
Yea that's fair. The maps are perhaps really well engineered, but don't hold my interest personally. I need another Strike at Karkand to be addicted to BF5 like I was to almost every other BF game.
That and unlocks. People hated on BF3 and BF4 for all the countless items, but it kept me hooked while I checked out all the new items to play with. When I have a choice of 4 scopes and literally nothing else, I don't feel like there is something special for me to work towards. New weapons sure, but it also seems like some times I'm not allowed to play with certain weapons so I stopped changing it up.
The conspiracy theory I've crafted in my head is that they'd rather be a Fifa/Madden company because those are their big performers. Other projects like need for speed and dice don't perform compared to those two and as such aren't given much effort. They're taking a big gamble with Anthem because they want in on the destiny type genre (ship a barebones game for 60 dollars and sell the season pass for 40) but I don't think they're going to hit so it's either going to be bioware or whatever mutated monstrosity develops NFS these days is next on the chopping block.
The game launched with 4 buttons on the main menu and two of them said Coming Soon. I like the game but I don't pity EA/DICE at all for selling below expectations, to have launched a game in the state it did is frankly embarrassing.
Oh, and also.
DICE. Fire your User Experience developers. The menus in BFV are actually the worst I've ever seen from a professional company. To change weapons you have to go like five pages deep mid match.
Quitting to check assignments or get new items? Have to wait 3 minutes after the game ends and then smash escape four times.
Customize a class? Fuck you, eight empty submenus that you have to do twice for EVERY CLASS
I'm patient enough to wait for all the DLCs to come out then buy the game on sale.
I learned last night too that you can't change unlock specializations if you rank up in the game, you have to wait until the next round. I wanted to unlock the spotting camera on the BF 109 G-6 but had to wait. Next round I was moved to the British team and couldn't try it out until I left and joined a new server.
BFV isn't going to have paid DLC.
The menu is probably one of the worst design aspects of the game. It's shocking.
I had no idea battlefield v already released, I thought it was still in development. Not a single person I know talked about it the months after e3.
What the hell ea get your shit together.
I know that's why I'm waiting. The DLC will all come out over time for free. I'd rather play when the game actually has content.
And BF1 was 5 dollars with premium so that's about all I'm willing to pay.
That's probably got something to do with the fact that when the game released varied wildly depending on what you bought and when you bought it.
