• Heartbreaking CCTV shows dog being abandoned

You're right. I've known few dogs as shitty as a great deal of humans I've had the misfortune of knowing.
I guess my state is stupid considering animal neglect like this is now a felony with 5-10 years jail time. You're putting others at risk leaving an animal to fend for it's self, and the state has to come deal with it for you. Its not morally right or good for society. Dogs are animals, leave one to starve or fight for their food, and they are as dangerous as any other wild animal.
So, in your opinion, dogs are greater than humans? You would save a dog over a human?
No one's said that. People just hate to see dogs be treated like toys despite their intelligence and sensitive nature. It's also true that dogs can be better and more valuable than awful human beings.
You know what? I would save the dog. Dogs arent as cunning as people, they dont have the same resources or abilities people do, and they will generally look to people to help them. Its a truly helpless animal that depends on a person. A person can nornally get themselves out of a situation. An animal can't.
Why do we have to compare the two? You can save both. This isn't some fucking hypothetical train dilemma bullshit.
Oh my god this boy is so fucking cute, i'd adopt him immediately if i could have pets in my apartment, fuck this guy. Frankly i'd trust a dog sooner than i'd trust someone with your mindset and lack of empathy. What you don't seem to grasp that's been brought up here is people view their animals every bit as important as their children because, frankly if you want to bring the "less than human" card into it, dogs have more ability to be human until kids fully boot up. Not to mention they're not just plain stupid, they communicate in their own ways, they look after their owners, recognize moods and emotions and bad signs, which is why emotional support pets and service animals exist, not to mention the numerous studies linking ownership of animals to longer, healthier human lives. You're quick to bring up the homeless as well and in my city we have a massive homeless problem and d'you know what i see? I see people out here faking it, harassing people for money, taking shifts to go out and shake cups with bits of chain in it to convince others that people have already given them money and they should too, i see them causing massive problems for businesses by falling asleep in their bathrooms, stealing, wrecking the place and trying to fist fight, pull knives or guns, on employees just doing their jobs, i see piles of them on the street corners littering everywhere and forcing people to go around them because they're blocking main thoroughfare, posing as vets to try to garner sympathy when our vets have their own set of problems, wearing better clothes than i do and i work a hard enough job for too little pay. Moreover, i see too many get shitty with you when you hand them gift cards or food, saying they'd rather just have the money, or never making any effort to improve their lives, content to sit and mooch off of other people, some of them making more money than i do in the process Don't get me wrong, i'll help those that are clearly good people in a bad way, i'm friendly with a number of the homeless folk around here because they know i'll get them a coffee or a sandwich or money on the holidays. But at the end of the day donating to help a stray find a home makes more of an impact on more lives than helping an ungrateful, uncaring career hobo. Sorry for the essay but man, your ignorant mindset and "it's just an animal" stance is just dangerous, it's why places like PETA can exist and thrive, its harmful and disrespectful to people that dedicate their lives to helping animals that need it and will appreciate it more than most humans would.
I just wanted to see what peoples priorities were.
Except dogs and cats actually can take care of themselves. They're animals. They don't need adult humans to survive. They may be pets but animals are animals and they have the capability to go feral and survive on their own. Millions of dogs and cats already have. They're not comparable at all. And that's what makes you a legitimately terrible person. It's this same kind of justification that is used by bystanders of things like the Holocaust and the drug killing of Duterte in the Philippines. "Don't worry, they'll be fine, it's okay, they'll find some way out of it, it's not my problem." And it's this kind of cynicism exactly that's destroying this world. The fact you actually believe there are people that are "career hobos" is so incredibly telling. There might be a few bad apples but the majority of homeless people are people who cannot so easily fend for themselves, such as the mentally ill, or drug addicts, or even just people who are down on their luck. The fact you would rather spend money on a dog than on an initiative to try to help these people, even if it's not directly giving money to them, is just astounding. You're so very wrong. It's not people like "career hobos" that are the worst of humanity, it's people like you who looks at one single person who did something wrong, and associates it with everyone who's related to that person, and justifying your hatred of the group with that. It's the same reason that people hate the Syrian refugees ("They're just a bunch of young men looking for white women to rape.") or Illegal immigrants ("They're just a bunch of criminal scum coming into this country to sell drugs and murder people."). It's the reason the Nazis hated the Jews ("Look at these scumbags who have scammed people out of their livelihoods, all of these long nosed pricks deserve to die.") or the Europeans enslaved the Africans ("Look at these savages, constantly warring and killing one another. They're no child of god, and they're clearly not at all on the same level as us.") It's the rampant and inherent tribalism, and this immediate assumption that people are always going to do something bad that is poisoning this world. I'm sorry, dumb me all you want, but WuzeyUzi is right. Dogs are not comparable to people. Dogs will never be on the level a thinking living human will be. Humans have as much capacity for kindness and love as they do for selfishness and conceit. To value human life so little... it's no wonder this world is such a dog turd. It's cynical people like you who are making it so.
Yeah I'm a terrible person for being compassionate to animals, okay. Youre an awful person for seeing domesticated animals as nothing more than animals. We bred them to have feelings, to care, to love for people. Ignoring that is cruel.
🤔
I'm not saying we shouldn't care about pets or their feelings, but people have far more of an emotional capacity than pets ever will. Let me put it this way: if it was you at the edge of the cliff with no way up with a dog struggling right next to you that was obviously someone's well loved pet, would you rather have me save you, or the dog?
You know what I mean and dont pretend you dont. Theres a very clear difference between a dog, and a Wolf. Theyre both animals, fucking obviously, but one requires constant human care and other is fully self sufficient.
you must've never heard of a wild dog then
And humans can't take care of themselves? We don't have the same or more resources than wild animals? There aren't hundreds of programs to help the homeless? You clearly live in a small town or out in the country or are deciding to be willfully ignorant or naive, i see these people every day, i know how they operate, i see what they do. This isn't an assumption based off of seeing one person, as you've decided to pin on me based off nothing, it's based on the dozens of people i see and dozens more i've talked to about these issues. It's based off of a recent news story in my area where they went around to a couple dozen homeless people and told them meet us here, help us with some work, and we'll pay you for it for only one single person to show up. Also, comparing a lack of compassion for people unwilling to help themselves to hating immigrants, refugees, being a Nazi and owning slaves, is the single most wild, astounding, and absolutely fucking retarded correlation and leap in logic i've ever seen another human make, like holy fuckin' shit dude please don't tell me you actually think that way.
Assuming the majority of homeless are faking is the negative attitude that leads to denying help to those that need it. Also if you could format your posts better it would really help, I'm having a lot of trouble reading the big long paragraph.
Wow bro you fucking got me holy shit. That completely invalidates all my points, because some dogs manage themselves. After all, thats what this news is about right? A family dropping a wild dog off in the woods? Oh wait no its about a domesticated dog. Whoops.
Where did I ever say you were exactly equal to a racist, xenophobic, Nazi slaveowner? I'm just saying that kind of logic is exactly what leads to those sorts of ideas and actions, and considering people without nuance is a terrible thing. That bit wasn't directed at you, chill. And as for your accusations of homeless people doing so, I have no proof whatsoever other than your anecdotal experience, so please, do demonstrate otherwise if you can?
Oh wild dogs? You mean the ones that animal control often goes out looking for to put down?
I'm swapping between mobile and desktop for these, so apologies, but honestly your problem reading it is your own. Again, you're ignoring stuff in my post to cherry pick arguments, it's not an assumption, it's actual shit that i've seen and experienced in the pursuit of helping those in need. If you'll re-read it my post without cherry picking this time, i said "don't get me wrong, i'll help those that are clearly good people in a bad way, i'm friendly with a number of the homeless folk around here because they know i'll get them a coffee or a sandwich or money on the holidays," clearly stating that i DO help those in need, i'm not just generalizing a group based on the actions of a few, i'm generalizing a group based on personal experiences and those experiences of acquaintances with the knowledge that frankly those in genuine need of help are fewer in number than those that aren't. It's a sentiment a lot of people i know and that the city itself shares, as much as you'd like to paint it as me being some bigot that had one bad experience with one person.
A domesticated dog can do just fine but itself. Refer to my avatar
Update. They're still investigating https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-46694246 https://twitter.com/RachRSPCA/status/1078249306338004992
I'm sorry dude, I just can't. My eyes are fucked at the moment. Your experiences still sound highly anecdotal.
Sure, and i'm sure regardless of any "proof" i could possibly provide it'd still be viewed that way, but that doesn't just up and make them entirely invalid.
I don't care if you view it just another animal, you should have the fucking decency to take it to a shelter instead of leaving it on the fucking streets. Seeing how some people grow up to do shit like this and in other cases much worse, and then people like you speak up saying "wELl iTS jUSt AN aNImaL! wHAt aBOuT hOOmANs!?" about it makes me want to value them more than humans if that's how most people will turn out. Humans are only special in regards to how we have thoroughly fucked everything up-- our wasteful nature is accelerating climate change, we exploit each other and persecute for the most minor differences and worship terrible people for pointless reasons. Meanwhile we have groomed the modern dog to rely on us for everything after centuries, if not millenniums after evolving alongside them and having civilizations continuously rely on them in turn, resulting in "Man's Best Friend" that we know today. People living in homeless shelters are not at risk of being put to death, they have a chance to turn things around in life. Animal shelters can only take in so many and have to put some dogs to sleep to make space if nobody adopts them. If a donation stays their hand for another day, so be it.
No one here is saying we shouldn't care about animals. I agree completely that it would have been a much better thing to do to give this dog to a shelter rather than just leaving it out there like he did. It's just the fact that people value dogs more than humans is... disgusting. Homeless are very much at risk of dying, if not of starvation than of the cold, the poor weather, ruffians on the streets, any number of things, and it's incredibly callous of you to just disregard them because "DoGGo GoT lEfT". Dogs can survive on their own as well. They are not nearly as reliant on us as people say they are. Furthermore you're falling into the same trap as well. Stop associating what some people do with what everyone does. You're the problem here with humans by immediately assuming we're all worse than fucking dogs.
It kinda sucks that it's taken this footage for this one pup to get attention and a ton of possible home offerings. Almost every single dog or cat in a rehoming center has been through this, if not worse. Hopefully this encourages people to look at other animals in need of homes rather than just obsessing over this guy. Only one of you fuckers is getting him and it's gonna be me, back off.
lmao you've been arguing this whole time based on your just opinions, cause that's SO much better than real world experiences you clearly don't have. Yeah you'll look real good up on the idiot tower with your smug attitude and disregarding every part of my and others posts that don't fit your narrative while calling it a strawman so you can keep comparing people who care about animals and think people can be pretty shit to Nazis and slaveowners. Oh no i'm sorry, tiptoeing around it by saying you didn't EXACTLY compare it, just that one line of thinking starts you don't that path, real big discrepancy there. Whoo boy you've really got me on this one, TornadoAP, i might just have to quit FP forever because i don't know if i can come back from your own totally fact-based, empirical argument.
Dude. YOU brought up Nazis. And now you're talking down to Tornado for calling you one, when he never did. Seriously. Go F3 the thread, no one called you a Nazi. You're setting up a strawman.
"it's people like you who looks at one single person who did something wrong, and associates it with everyone who's related to that person, and justifying your hatred of the group with that." followed directly by "It's the same reason that people hate the Syrian refugees ("They're just a bunch of young men looking for white women to rape.") or Illegal immigrants ("They're just a bunch of criminal scum coming into this country to sell drugs and murder people."). It's the reason the Nazis hated the Jews ("Look at these scumbags who have scammed people out of their livelihoods, all of these long nosed pricks deserve to die.") or the Europeans enslaved the Africans ("Look at these savages, constantly warring and killing one another. They're no child of god, and they're clearly not at all on the same level as us.")" Basic reading comprehension. I'd also like to mention that only once did i say he called me that, the rest was for reference of the wild comparison. It's not a strawman, it's literally right there in plain text. Not to be rude but it's like you didn't read all the way through the posts before replying and like he forgets what he said after he's posted it. Regardless, we've massively derailed this thread that has had about all that can be said in regards to the topic said.
