You've got those ads with adorable children and those movies about baby animals with big eyes. But when people encounter too much cuteness, the result can be something scientists call "cute aggression." People "just have this flash of thinking: 'I want to crush it' or 'I want to squeeze it until pops' or 'I want to punch it,' " says Katherine Stavropoulos, a psychologist in the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Riverside. About half of all adults have those thoughts sometimes, says Stavropoulos, who published a study about the phenomenon in early December in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience. But those people wouldn't really take a swipe at Bambi or Thumper, she says. "When people feel this way, it's with no desire to cause harm," Stavropoulos says. The thoughts appear to be an involuntary response to being overwhelmed by a positive emotion. Cute aggression is often baffling and embarrassing to the people who experience it. Stavropoulos says they think, "This is weird; I'm probably the only one who feels this way. I don't want to hurt it. I just want to eat it."
This is why I want to destroy all anime cute girls
it's like a buffer overflow
They want to smash it.
I'm so glad me and my boyfriend aren't the only weirdos who go on about all the horrible ways we want to kill/cook/eat our cat when's rolling around cutely.
🚓
Oh fuck that's normal?
Wasn't an article on this exact thing published about six months ago, or am I nuts?
Yeah saw Bambi a few days ago, wanted to punch that little bitch in the face
I can't believe stuff like Fluffy Pony and Yukkuri torture might not be insane ideas Half the population experiencing cute aggression naturally in some capacity is just unreal
I'm pretty sure I've seen a TIL on Reddit about this 3 times over the last few years.
This probably explains why people have such a violent reaction to MLP then doesn't it
Pretty sure it’s the whole fan base thing with that that makes folks want to rend them asunder with sharp implements.
Explains a lot. I briefly had a budgie with a little vocal defect that made him make a squeaky toy noise instead of the normal budgie chirp. I just want to squeeze him every time he made those noises, because they were adorable.

What movie is this?
I get this sometimes, for example, watching my SO play Pokemon Let's Go Eevee during the interaction things made me wanna shove my fist through the TV because it was so cute. Occasionally, videos of kittens and puppies make me want to reach through the monitor and grab and aggressively pet them until their skin peels off or snuggle them so hard they'd probably get crushed to death. It's inexplicable, I can't control feeling it and it sure as hell is confusing as fuck because I have no idea why I feel that way. I don't feel anger either, it's... just.. really fucking weird.

Huh and I thought taking it away from its dead mother wasn't normal... Oh shit, I might be a good fit for the ICE... I should get checked.

I've never felt or heard of anything like this, the entire concept is very disturbing to me.
If it makes you feel any better, those of us who get it are quite usually equally disturbed by it. At least I know I am. We never want to act on it and sometimes it's startling when they happen. They also tend to make people feel really fucking horrible for ever thinking like that, regardless of whether or not they can help it. It's all part of a system of generally intrusive thoughts, much like Call of the Void, something I also get semi frequently, totally unlinked to depression or an actual desire to commit suicide.
I personally feel an overwhelming urge to throw stuff I care about out of windows, especially when I'm riding in a car or train.
