https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/british-army-snow-flake-poster-prompts-scots-guardsman-used-on-it-to-quit-the-forces-a4031446.html Stephen McWhirter, 28, was clueless to the fact his face was going to be used on a poster stating “snowflakes – the army needs you and your compassion”,according to the Mail on Sunday. He took to Facebook to express his annoyance after seeing his face plastered on the poster. He was bombarded with sarcastic messages from colleagues and he has accused the army of leaving him open to ridicule. In later posts he said he would resign at the soonest opportunity. He is reportedly able to do so in five months and has spoken of having no forewarning that the term would be used on posters using his image.
And I bet he has no legal recourse because "fuck your rights we own you".
I find this to be so disgusting.
i can see why this backfired if everybody is taking it completely at face value. the ad isn't calling people "snowflake" or "phone zombie", it is playing off these common denigrations of millennials and saying the army appreciates the skills and ways of thinking that come with being a millennial. it probably would have worked if people weren't so hair-triggered and ready to react without thinking.
Just goes to tell you that if you're a big corporate-type marketing brain, DO NOT attempt to market directly at millennials with what's intended to be self-aware humour unless you're a millennial yourself, because the chances you will come off as genuine and appealing to a group as hyperaware of marketing bullshit aimed at them is close to zero. Like consider the "Millennials Edition" of Monopoly where the tagline on the front of the box pretty much says "lol millennials have no money" and the game is about collecting "experiences" because nobody can afford real estate.
It's reasonable to expect people be turned off by terms that are normally used to insult them.
Why do they want gamers' drives? The brass thinking of stealing savegames and porn?
People still ciriclejerking about the "journals" boogieman? Do you guys not know what a common topic is?
Hard to have rights when you sign them away to act as a murderous puppet for a government that will never know your name.
Hey at least I'll get to drive tanks around so you gain some you lose some.
I used to originally like the label of gamer since to me it represented basically just a person who is really enthusiastic about video games, not unlike how you'd call someone who's extremely into movies a Cinephile. But now you get stupid shit like this and associating yourself as a gamer makes you feel like a retard.
As a "gamer" the fucking army is last place I want to be
The Army is actually a pretty good place to be if you're a gamer: lots of down time, don't have to cook for yourself, and they probably won't get rid of you for being lazy because that'll make the numbers look bad.

Just bring back the draft, that'll learn 'em
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
Finally, they're using our correct pronouns!
