Sounds good. I doubt EVERYTHING about Destiny can be blamed on evil, evil evil Activision, but it can't be a coincidence that most of the content that Bungie supposedly couldn't make for D1 and D2 wound up coming out as DLC.
Pathways into Darkness and Oni need to be brought to GOG as well.
old bungie is coming back. im hype.
Tbh if DD actually helps Bungie out that will be an incredible change. Best thing for them even.
so what does this actually mean for bungie? are they officially a completely independent studio (for) now? i was under the impression that their relationship with activision was more close than just actiblizz being their publisher.
Jason Jones drove out just about everyone who was part of “old Bungie,” or at the very least, the most important people like Joe Staten, Marcus Lehto, and Marty O’Donnell. Old Bungie is never coming back. That said, they probably have the talent to make good games, maybe even great games. But don’t kid yourself. The dream team that made the Halo games and those that came before is long gone.
it'll be interesting to see what becomes of this because with activision they had access to blizzard know how and resources, now they're on their own, at least they were able to retain their 2nd kid destiny.
Weird how Destiny went from THE BIGGEST, MOST EXPENSIVE THING EVER IT'S GONNA BE THE NEXT BIG THING to Activision washing their hands of it.
How did they manage to pull it off? Am I mistaken, or you rarely hear news like this? Usually you hear about a studio closing down, with the IP they came up with still belonging to the publisher who will either fuck it up, or forget about it completely. I guess "inside football" stuff that's about money and legal stuff isn't usually publicized, unlike film media.
Never cared much about destiny but it's nice to see someone survive a bad publisher intact with their IP. That's pretty rare.
Considering it wasn’t, it’s not that much of a surprise.
Kinda funny, I spent the day in Halo 3 matchmaking. The Mythic disc that comes with ODST has an ad for BungieStore.com when you boot it up on Live
As much as I'd love to laud "OLD BUNGIE!!!" returning, that's a big never ever. That being said, will Destiny 2 be coming to launchers other than battle.net?
Oh man. Now destiny can evolve into what it was meant to be. As someone who overlooked the glaring issues because it is genuinely one of the most beautiful games around, and the gunplay and character movement is fantastic, I cant wait to see what happens with it.

Now Bungie can finally make Pimps at Sea!
Bungie are wizards, during the Halo days they were literally a subsidiary of Microsoft and I still don't understand how they convinced MS to let them leave and become an independent company, even with MS keeping the Halo IP
Jones probably has some weird dirt on Bobby Kotick

just before Halo 3 launched they became an independent LLC. From then on the writing was on the wall. There were even Destiny posters in ODST.
I won't say I'm optimistic but Destiny 3, but with Activision being out of the picture, I have to now wonder what will become of the Microtransactions, are they staying in 2 while being absent from 3? Or will they still be in 3 but the rest of the game will benefit from a longer development time? I'm not really sure how to feel about this, I think I'm in the middle at the very least, whereas before I didn't have any hopes for 3.
Blizzard next, please. I know the relationship between Blizzard and Activision-Blizzard is different to how Bungie and Activision operated, but god this makes me desperate for Blizzard to go at it solo again.
Great news, I hope this would help me get interested in D2 It's just a shame this doesn't happen very often
If the leaker AnontheNine is to be believed (and he is), Destiny 3 only started development shortly after the launch of Forsaken. It's going to be clean of Activision's touch.
Well we'll see anyway, we'll see if Activision not being there causes Bungie to produce a decently written story, one that's actually engaging and isn't easily forgettable.
There is no wizards, Jones literally runs an electronic cult, same as Preacher Randy. If either of them were sexually inclined instead of political they'd both be in jail and there'd be a trail of many many lawsuits. They don't give a shit about suits with proposed imaginary money when Glorious Leader will personally lead the charge, and is also conveniently directly in charge of handing out exorbitant bonuses while getting people to volunteer to work at scale on the promise of said bonuses. The EOL bonuses for Halo3 and BL2 were six figures in several cases. You think a design lead is gonna jump ship when they just got a wad that allowed them to buy a house for cash in one of the most notorious real estate markets in the states? Nah.
Too late, the talent at Blizz have been running away for a while.
On one hand, I'm super happy for them. To be free from a controlling group of people you don't agree with, and keeping ownership of the IP that you yourself created is an amazing thing. There's no doubt that, while current Bungie certainly isn't the same as the Bungie of old, they have some insanely talented and skilled people there. With little to potentially no corporate bullshit to get in the way, maybe we'll be able to see what this team of once revered developers can really do. Maybe with Destiny 3, they'll release the Destiny game they always wanted to make since the first one. On the other hand, I'm also extremely worried for them. Some of the failings of Destiny were due to some of Bungie's decisions (a lot of it was a mix of Bungie and Activision though), so if they fuck up anything else with Destiny 2 or Destiny 3 in the future, ALL of the blame will go on them. Activision may be a planet sized sack of shit, but they definitely took the brunt of the criticism and shit flinging that was aimed Bungie's way. Bungie is going to be under a lot of pressure, and higher standards are going to be expected of them now that Activision isn't there to excuse some of their failings. Ultimately, Bungie's destiny is fully up to themselves.
To be honest, I don’t see a future where they are in full control of their creative process. Right before parting with Microsoft they were all preaching how they all wanted to be independent, only to shortly after willingly jump into the clutches of Activision. If the news that their breakup was financially motivated by another company is true, I don’t see them remaining independent for long. In truth, I don’t think they know how to be independent, given how pretty much all of their success was when they were tied to another company.
I think there is still talent at Blizzard, it's just not the people making decisions.
