Rice for days? Sounds good, I'm in. Can't get enough of the stuff.
You are anorexic, please eat.
And on the topic of @jill920 apparently being part plant, it's true that humans can survive on a very limited diet. It's no wonder that sweet potatoes were mentioned, because eating potatoes alone can actually sustain you for a good while; Penn Jillette apparently got a lot more fit on a diet of nothing but potatoes for several weeks and Kevin Smith has also been following Jillette's style after his heart attack with pretty impressive results. Although potatoes alone technically aren't enough, they come damn close. Drinking milk covers the rest of your nutrients except for molybdenum, which you only need a tiny amount of and can get from oats. So potatoes, oats, and milk alone is literally all you need to eat for the rest of your life and you'll have all the nutrients you need. It'd be bland as hell if you don't dress 'em up a little, but it's technically doable. There's actually quite a couple recipes that use all three together - sometimes with little else - so you could technically just make and eat the one dish you choose out of those and be fine. Not like any of the three are particularly expensive, either.
Yeah, because all diets are "one size fits all", right?
I think I found a photo of you online: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/205174/256fcb8f-8b96-44b1-b07f-cfe135f65e3e/image.png
Mm. Not enough burgers and pasta on there for my tastes.
Your diet will actually kill you. In california (and most of the US) a relative could have you institutionalized due to the danger you pose to yourself. Having a bowl of pho or something similar once a day will not make you fat. The reason you dont need as much food is because your metabolism is lowering itself because you're essentially putting your body into "oh shit im starving so there must be no food" mode, which is bad. Thats not even getting into the dangers of how badly you're hurting your immune system. If you get a bad enough illness you dont have enough body fat to have a safety blanket in case something interferes with your digestion (This almost killed my grandpa when he lost 50 pounds in the hospital). Thats not even getting into the fact that if you keep starving yourself you're probably going to faint, or thay engorging yourself on that much water on a daily basis is depleting you of your electrolytes and probably taxing your kidneys.
There are manufacturers out there that pre-add lactase to the milk so that lactose-intolerant people can drink it. There are also other ways to get dairy that don't upset lactose-intolerant people, like yogurt.
bruh yogurt has enough lactose in it to cause problems lol
Try being the only vegan in your family and friend-circle like me lol The questions and comments I get on a regular basis are laughable; "What do you EAT?/But there's nothing of you as it is!/But WHERE do you get your protein?" etc.
Generally speaking increasing consumption of nuts/fruits/veggies does in fact keep your health in check not to say that red meat doesn't have it's benefits but utilizing it as a main dish does increase chances of gout and cardiovascular problems even more so with processed red meats. Eating meats such as fish etc are quite beneficial for omega-3's (lionfish has a high concentration of it if i'm not mistaken). Obviously if you have allergies to nuts there are alternatives you can replace. To act like this doesn't have health benefits is of suspect thinking. Yes there is a diversity of gut biomes and how each body reacts to particular foods are unique but generally speaking we aren't built to solely eat meat, we absolutely need a diverse diet of different foods. This also doesn't help the fact we are bombarded by heavily processed foods in our grocery stores and fast food chains. Causing a plethora of health concerns. Try eating more nuts, fruits, and other types of plant foods i guarantee that you will feel the difference. What they are stating is not really new but i i feel like they wanted to tie it to a study just so that in hopes changes the way some people eat. This of course will have zero impact on those too damn stubborn to stop and think about what they are putting in their bodies but one can hope.
Fuck off, I'm not gonna stop eating Meat, I could cut out Beef but if they're telling me "oh noes all meat needs to be cut down", I might consider it when China stops making fucking Coal Power Plants.
Wouldn't want to risk doing a good thing unless everyone's gonna do it right? This is a terrible line of reasoning and reeks of whataboutism
I may have hastily typed that post out of annoyance, it's the idea that even if we try and do this good thing there's still bigger people out there than completely negate any good we try to make.
It might be a small hole in the boat, but one way or another all of them have to be fixed
I'm surprised that they suggest eating more nuts, considering how stupidly water intensive of a crop they are. It's less water intensive than most meats, I suppose.
The only thing that's going to lead to me eating less meat is being broke as fuck when I move out, and even then I plan to start taking hunting and fishing more seriously.
Such a selfish mindset. Have you ever even tried the alternatives?
You are either a walking skeleton or a liar
And China's not gonna stop using coal, they could cut out coal but if they're being told "oh noes all coal needs to be cut down", they might consider it when the west stops animal farming on a fucking industrial scale You can't just shift the blame on to other people and act like there's zero responsibility on your part; it's not one choice or the other, there's no point focusing on just one issue and solely blaming that.
The mindset that Ghost represents is honestly the only rational way to approach this. Everything points to everything going to shit. Why should I compromise on my life when everybody in power is either preoccupied with destroying the planet or keeping their career on a positive trajectory(indirectly destroying the planet in the process)? The only good I'm gonna do is not have children and not flying.
I don't know of alternatives to Red Meat that cost either the same or less than. Yeah and maybe I can't do this because it's a stupid thing to come out with, but I made my point in a follow up post.
I am not vegan but I have been a strict vegetarian my entire life due to religious reasons (no meat or other animal product resulting in the death of the animal, including stuff like leather and avoiding dairy product that contains stuff like capric acid and rennet, only really consuming animal products at all if they are responsibly sourced and don't result in harm to the animal) and people seem to get that. Might get the occasional good-natured vegetarian joke but that's it. What I don't understand is that why some people who eat meat can't fathom eating an evening meal with no meat in it.
WHAT THE FUCK. ontopic: are they taking into account the 11 million "extra" people's extra load on the planet?
The first post read out as a joke too, and a pretty funny one at that too. I wish he hadn't made the other post. (I think that about some of my posts.) How and in what ways are you "compromising on your own life" if you make efforts to shift your diet and consumer choices towards something more sustainable in relation to the planet's environment? I don't see how you would lose anything really. We are destroying the planet too much our single consumer choices. It's a global economy, and so on. When talking about the "real people in power" ahead of all these mega-food-chains from McDonald's to every grocery store on the planet, those are probably the people who are producing the most meat for our consumption. People owning the biggest meat production companies would probably say something like "It is remarkable and kind of weird just how big the demand is for meat actually is, especially when you're looking at the largest slaughter houses in operation, or looking issues with more and more space required at a constant pace, but it sure is generating a lot of money, AND people are happy after having eaten a tasty hamburger meal." And I don't entirely blame these people in power, it's a world of opportunity. And a big fast-food business could fall inside a day if everybody simply stopped dining there. It's unthinkable, yet it's a simple solution. Managing a career has nothing to do with any of this, except the career might consume too much time, but then you just need a spouse. And with your spouse, you can make children if you want no problem, which brings us to the last argument of my post... The "Don't have children" policy. Are you (seriously) suggesting that we reduce the total population instead of reducing our excessive consumption? Granted, we can keep spending a lot of energy for our enjoyment with little to no effect on the environment, but with generally (A LOT!!!) less people around. How are you going to sell the idea of not producing children to about 5 billion people out of the 7.7 billion people alive? That's going to be even harder to do than to massively change our consumer choices, which is also very hard to do. It's all very hard, even for me!
Keto is in no way shape or form "Snake oil". There's a lot of data that shows this view point about Keto is bullshit. Paleo is total bullshit and I don't defend it, but Keto is real, and works for many people, denying that as "Snake Oil" is unfounded. Studies showed Keto to have more than marginal improvements over long time periods provided the diet was stuck with. All diets trend towards failure, because "Diets" as we use them in the west are temporary restructruing of how we think we should eat that leads people to breaking it by lack of convenience or missing out on things they really like. I don't have a problem with mostly vegetable diets, keto isn't even about consuming protein all the time so I see you don't even understand the basis of Keto, but have some how "debunked it".
And people ask why I don't believe whatever these big-name nutrition scientists when they start talking shit. This isn't optimal at all, it's optimal maybe for the farming lobby and nobody else. "halve sugar" while still eating grains, it's like they're demanding a sick population
its not whataboutism, and more the fact that you're quitting a lot of things you like to do, exchanging for things that you most likely hate, that give you pleasure and make you happy and so on, to most likely not have that much impact in the world because its the usual "one against billions" kind of thing It also ends up being the "leave ICE, get electric, or ride a bike/public transport" kind of thing. Yeah lets dump what might aswell be a perfectly good vehicle, that actually doesn't makes me spend a whole lot of money, which I most likely like very much because I might be the kind of person to get a car that I like and not just some car to take me from A to B, and buy what will most likely be a shitty looking electric. Or better yet, lets go hard mode and take the bus. Bonus points if you live in the middle of nowhere and your job is far far away. In short, it ends up being a "stop being happy doing what you want" more than a "save the planet feature" then we have the whole thing about having children. Theres the people that for some fucking reason want to fill a house with children, which I don't understand one bit but I can't really judge them since I don't really like kids, the people that don't really have that big monetary power but still want kids NO MATTER WHAT AT THE YOUNGEST AGE POSSIBLE, and I understand that even less seeing how life seems to get more expensive each year and kid expenses are even worse and it would just be a headache all for the sake of "yay a son/daughter"... And then theres the people that shouldn't even be having kids in the first place, like at all, for very obvious reasons, like being bad parents and stuff of the sort. But in the end I just don't see why people want to have kids this much. Reading some wikihow answers to certain problems, and people saying stuff like "I think I'm late, I hope I'm pregnant again, its gonna be my forth!" and thats just... weird to me
Body weight and height? It is hard to recognize that your body condition is an issue until you've experienced living with a different composition. I thought I felt great at 56kg at 1.88 m. Cardio was easy enough, didn't think I felt exhausted all the time. 84kg is much more comfortable. Surprising how much of a difference it makes having more muscle mass. The sort of diet you're espousing isn't conducive to retention or gain of muscle mass, it's a fact of biology. Do you live a sedentary lifestyle? The proposed diet here may be suitable at a population level, but the macro-nutrient ratios might not be suitable for all people. Obviously some fine tuning is needed, but the general idea is sound. We need to eat less beef and pork, more fruits and nuts.
Not producing children is obviously not a solution to anything but voluntary exinction, I get that. What I'm trying to argue is that to turn this atmosphere problem around the world would need a person of good faith i an absolute totalitarian position of power backed by a system that is impossibly incorruptible. How is this current system of global economy ever to be dismantled without a terrible war or alien intervention? The usual answer that history has taught us is to give it time to evolve and improve but literally every article I've read for the past 5 years on this subject makes it abundantly clear that time is what we don't have. Something radical needs to happen and I don't see it happening. Call me a cynic if you want but these cooperation's you're talking about are already big enough to ignore paying taxes to first world countries backed by the largest national economies in both east and west with 0 consequences. they literally answer to nothing but capital gain and as they continue to grow they will wreck our planet harder and harder. On a sidenote I'm totally down with adopting a child, the reason I don't want children is because anyone that is even remotely like me is gonna have no hope of enjoying life in the future I see.
