Technically, this means it's now twice as likely that a magical asteroid crashes on earth, right?
One of them could actually be superman, get hunting.
what if its just subparman?
For the past 290 million years, large asteroids have been crashing into Earth more than twice as often as they did in the previous 700 million years
We're not suddenly twice as likely to get hit by asteroids.
i hope it wouldn't be this
Is giant meteor finally announcing it's 2020 bid?
does this mean i can finally forge a sword worthy of a king?
This is a good video on it.
At this point he will do.
Worst case scenario:
wouldn't tons of small asteroids be the sign of a larger one?
...how would that work?
I'm guessing he's thinking about Armageddon where the big asteroid was being preceded by smaller asteroids.
Asteroids don't hunt in packs
Think about it, a large asteroid traveling in space would be prone to slowly breaking up, leaving smaller fragments.
That only happens when the asteroid enters the atmosphere
there isn't really anything in deep space that would cause asteroid to chip
So how are those fragments speeding up? It's not like they have rocket engines attached to them so they can speed up and get ahead of the main asteroid chunk.
Oh boy I can’t wait to catch Deoxys!
What is it with every single end of the world scenario sneaking up on us all of sudden?
The liberals must be responsible for this
That sounds like a great idea for a novel though. Sentient asteroids which kamikazi space ships and planets in wolf packs. Get cracking Japan!
Maybe we should work on that giant network of Railguns sometime?
Actually, on second thought, maybe not. Someone will end up figuring out it's a highly effective anti-air weapon.
You mean best case. Right?
I just realised that if the government announced a world-ending meteor was heading for earth, a sizable number of people wouldn't believe it and would come up with conspiracy theories about the missions to stop it
There is the moon, but I'm pretty sure we'd see the asteroid well before then.
Can't be, I arrived 20 years ago.
No one said they were speeding up
they'd have to if the fragmented bits could get ahead of the bigger asteroid
Gravitational stresses can totally break apart an asteroid. They'd just have to fly within range of any of the gas giants and it'd be pulled apart.
