Google proposes changes to Chromium which would disable uBlock Origin

Of course they would. I would've switched to Edge, but now they're moving to Chromium too, due to shenanigans Google is pulling to make it the current Edge run slower. Funny timing, that.
As aside, I have a cousin who works at Google and he is constantly slobbering over all their actions on his social media accounts, crammed with simpering platitudes like "THANKS GOOGLE!!!" while blindly praising whatever they're currently trying to push. I wonder how much he's trying to pull damage control on this right now.
Honestly people should just do this anyway. Per device blocking is inefficient and impossible in some cases.
You can run pi hole on a zero or zero-w I think. Or just run it on basically any shitty hardware you've got going spare. It's just a Linux software suite after all.
I'm personally much more mad at the fact that uMatrix would be unusable as well, being able to separately enable and disable scripts on sites is crazy useful for safer browsing/disabling overlays/etc...
Tbh Edge is the next choice for me
Well, that's what this draft phase is for, feedback.
There's still time for changes
"Safety" my ass. All that'll happen is the rate of malware infections goes up, because Google can't be fucked to actually get their ads for malware.
After the recent forced UI update on Chrome I have been considering moving over to Firefox more and more, But if this shit goes through then I will be making the switch
Hey, don't make light of menal disblies
The big issue with abandoning their good extension framework for Web Extensions was that Google are trash and refuse to ever standardize. If anyone standardizes, it has to be the other side. And Google being trash about it was actively harming Firefox's addon community because devs were getting tired of having to code two totally separate versions of their addons. It sucks ass though because the change outright killed popular addons like Tab Mix Plus which still isn't back to a workable version yet due to the new Web Extension setup not yet having all the necessary support.
They also made shitty changes that no longer allow you to do something like creating a local webpage and using that for a new tab page. If you try then any local resources you try and use will simply fail to load.
From my understanding that was only installed for people who are enlisted in the Test Pilot program. Not that that makes it less of a shitty idea by any means. It just wasn't something that they simply installed without consent.
Ah yes, for safety. Not for user safety of course, but for the advertiser safety. After all, it's not safe for the advertisers when they aren't getting those adbucks and your personal information.
Wish I didn't have to use Chrome at all, but sadly I have to use it for some work things, because the developers won't develop for firefox.
Ive been using Firefox for years, you guys are late to the game.
Not being able to use uBlock would be a bigger inconvenience to me, than Firefox not having proper OpenSearch support.
If they actually push out a release with this garbage in it, I'll switch over.
I switched to Firefox ages ago and it's never let me down, even when it was considered "bad" and a memory hog. Despite those flaws, the extensions I installed into it made it a more comfortable browser to use over-all. The latest major update has been a fantastic experience thus-far.
Well, I do prefer using Opera, but since it's gonna harm ALL Chromium-based browsers... guess I'll start migrating to Firefox ASAP.
Ive been using Firefox at work and it works fine. Looks like i'll switch to FF the minute ublock breaks.
But you know that all browsers on iPhone iOS are pretty much reskins of Safari?
Edge is switching to Blink (Chromium based). This change will affect you.
If they touch ublock Origin then I'll switch to some other browser.
What an coincidence that that Adblock still works. I wonder why. 🤔

I kind of missed firefox anyway
if they go through with this im making firefox my primary browser
there's nothing i hate more than ads
Chrome have been dropping a lot of customization options and I just ditched it last months because they removed the mute tab option AGAIN. Now I am sure as hell not going back to it.
You can use ublock origin on firefox mobile.
I've been running with firefox for over a decade at this point.
When I dropped Chrome a few years ago for other shit they were pulling, I went a step further and used Waterfox instead. They had 64-bit before Mozilla did, and Waterfox totally strips out shitty dumb features like Pocket. From what I can tell, it also generally runs better as well.
Haven't had an addon yet that didn't work with it.
I'd recommend at least checking Waterfox out if anyone is thinking of switching to Firefox. Profiles are compatible so if you don't like it, it's an easy switch to regular Firefox.
does waterfox support ublock too?
If Firefox supports it, huge chance Waterfox does as well.
As such, uBlock Origin is very much supported.
But you can disable all the pocket shit and disable the Telemetry. What's the point of Waterfox nowadays since Firefox is 64bit?
But there is a reason goo gle have the confidence to do this
Safety and speed, at 8gb of ram
Removing all traces of code of a feature is different from just disabling it.
I'd prefer it being gone in every way possible.
Guess I'll be turning off chrome updates and swapping to Firefox at some point in the future.
I've loved chrome ever since it came out but this is just disappointing. Ublock has literally been the saving grace on so many sites as ads only get more intrusive and make me want to buy things less- especially when they pop up on YouTube videos.
