Metro Exodus will be Epic Store Exclusive, Steam Preorders will still be honored

Like it seriously boggles my mind that people are defending this. These same people who cry bloody tears when there are console exclusives in the console market but when Epic does it it's A-OK because it "competition" and "lighting a fire under Valves ass".
All I can say is that it wouldn't be a hill I wanna die on.
Yeah, there's no way this isn't going to affect sales, I didn't play any of the other Metro games(Though I do own them), but I was very interested in this one, but I'm just not gonna bother until it's back on steam next year.
(the small indie developer epic games)
people need to remember not only do they wholly own Fortnite, which is BILLIONS alone, but also that they license the unreal engine which is used just about industry wide, I don't really think there's a bigger engine out there
The exclusivity will certainly hurt the PC version of the game, I'm not quite sure the series has enough widespread appeal for console sales to make up for it either.
I can understand the rationale for the exclusivity, as ham-fisted as it is, but the best choice would be to release the game on both platforms and let the users decide if the lower Epic price is enough to convince them to use Epic's platform-- It's the only way I can see the Epic store actually growing as a platform rather than the short term "solution" of exclusivity they've brewed up.
I wanted to play it. I've got Metro 2033 and Metro 2034, both are really good games. But i'm not installing another fucking launcher.
I think it's because people don't see the dichotomy that way.
Go on reddit, kotaku, or just other various sites that have posts about this issue that have a different dialogue than the one here, and they don't see the act of an exclusive to a platform, as the same as a console exclusive.
I'm not saying anything at all about whether that's right or wrong, but I think that's one reason at least.
http://gamasutra.com/view/news/335533/THQ_Nordic_CEO_fully_supports_Metro_Exodus_exclusivity_deal.php
If you're having trouble keeping this straight, here's a guide:
THQ Nordic AB - Supports it
THQ Nordic GmbH - Had no idea
Deep Silver/Koch Media - Made the deal
4A Games - Had no idea
What a complete clusterfuck. Also, this means that the decision is approved by the very top of the food chain - THQ Nordic AB is the parent company of THQ Nordic GmbH. So yes, we can now officially tell THQ Nordic to go fuck themselves.
and people says deal like these could benefit the developer/creators, and not just corporate decisions to fill shareholder's pocket
God, poor 4A Games...

and other gems such as "how is BFV being only on origin not competition? ur literally taking away from the competition!".
I love people.
Unfortunately there is no way to punish the publisher for its terrible decisions without harming them, but that is the way it is.
The recent review bombs is going to further convince publishers that user reviews are terrible.
Yeah, being held accountable for their terrible decisions tends to do that.
as long as people have a platform to voice an opinion though, this will continue to happen.
Any major review platform could be used as a source for search engines too. If you're doing poorly, you're less likely to be favoured due to how SEO works
user review platform for Epic Games Store is Metacritic.
Anybody who defends this is genuinely retarded I think. I don't know how you can honestly defend this. Just do some proper reading about it instead of coming from a narrow "steam is bad" point of view.
I never understood why people had a problem with console exclusives. Companies got to have some incentive to buy their platform, and I don’t think it’s even anti consumer.
Then exclusivity has given plenty of companies the chance to make high budget games with first party publisher backing. I mean look at all the weird shit Sony pushes that might never have been made if it weren’t for their financial support to push the Playstation brand.
Not that It makes it any better, but their CEO isn't going to make a business partner/sister company look incompetent or worse by outright saying it was a terrible idea. He doesn't seem to be saying "This was a good idea, they did the right thing" but the way he worded it is more just "Koch media do what they think is best and i trust that" Obviously he's going to say he stands by their choices, he isn't going to talk badly about them by implying that they can't be trusted to make decisions for themselves.
Putting a game behind a $300+ entry fee isn't remotely similar to making you download a new launcher.
I say this as someone who supports console exclusivity even - those games wouldn't even be made if they weren't exclusive. This situation is even more different because the game was pulled so shortly before it was supposed to come out.
At some point, you're going to hit a limit of how many accounts and services you're going to want to keep up with. I long passed that point.
Can't really be considered a competition if only one person is allowed to compete now is it?
Exactly.
4A game said that if people Boycott Metro Exodus on PC, the next one won't come to it.

As if I had any more reason to give less of a shit
What is it with gaming companies lately. Just say you went to Epic because you get a bigger cut and it'll allow you to do more for your customers and fans, instead of, you know, threatening them
Whelp fuck the devs too then.
This could be anybody though couldn't it? There's no confirmation of his identity anywhere.
And this is just his own opinion too, not the studio shared one.
In the end it's the IP holder's decision on what platform to release anyway.
so they're learning how to treat their customer from EA. I hope this blow up in their face just like it did with EA. Fuck this guy.
gamers are pretty terrible at boycotting so im sure it will still sell fine
Worked pretty well with Battlefront 2 and BF5.
Hard to say if this is actually true. Battlefront got reported as missing its sales target (10 million by such and such date) because it only sold a measly... 9 million copies. Seems like it the controversy made an appreciable dent but not to the extend you'd hope. The only bit I could find about BF5 was that physical sales are down, which isn't shocking - I'm surprised physical sales haven't dropped across the board these days.
