• Metro Exodus will be Epic Store Exclusive, Steam Preorders will still be honored

FYI you can create a shortcut to UE4 and bypass the launcher directly.
Plus, since it is an Epic account, you'll have to deal with repeated e-mails about attempts to access your account due to the massive Fortnite interest, both genuine and phishing attacks.
People seem to be under the misunderstanding that it's solely about having to install another client when it is in fact about having to install another client that is also objectively inferior to the platform it was removed from. See, installing another client is simply annoying. Having to install another client that is also a pile of crap is infuriating.
People who think that it's only about the client should see those 2 pictures (the second one might a bit too biased tho): https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/167154916605820928/541347864404819982/wp047tkqxdd21.png https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/167154916605820928/541556410752958468/unknown.png
I have 47 e-mails that says someone tried to get access to my account. How fucking stubborn can you be. But I love getting them, just laughing at how bad they are since the password is worse than "123"
My friend played fortnite one fucking time and has gotten constant spam in his email over people trying to get his account, its ridiculous.
I wouldn't even bother with PCGN at all They're universally a shitty site, nothing they say actually has merit because they only really write trash articles
This post opened my eyes. There are so many things on Steam that we all take for granted.
For real it's one thing when its exclusive to a system because Porting is too expensive or complicated A company is funding the game itself The company OWNS the IP itself When that happens it really fucking blows and I hate it but its at least reasonable to see why it happens. But this is none of those things and was already on Steam until this happened. Even worse, none of those three things are even applicable here. Epic paid to remove it from steam.
It's mostly credential stuffing, people are testing all leaked emails and passwords against multiple services.
The term "Torrenting" is the more computer literate term. You mention pirating, they'll understand. I have a friend who pretty much never uses a computer, and he knows what it is. Plus one google search of "Metro Exodus Download", well, shouldn't take too long to find a download. And even if they had trouble, Reddit exists, the amount of people who understands Computers nowadays has grown massively so knowing someone who does know how to do it isn't rare anymore. Illegally downloading is still easier.
As a Linux user, I use Steam/GOG and Proton to play games. There is no Epic Store client available for Linux. As a result, they're just losing a customer, not enticing me switch over, because I simply can't. This isn't how you win over people. Review bombing 4A's other games makes little sense to me. I wish there was a way to review publishers themselves, as a separate rating or something? Maybe? Probably not, but I wish there was an alternative to these bizarre hit and run reviews. Also, the sort of folks who peruse r/piracy, or know how to torrent, are not your average PC gamers in my experience. Talking to people outside of your friends group or discord server, and working with customers in IT support or retail, gives you a better idea of what your average gamer's capabilities/knowhow/confidence is. And that last part, technical confidence, plays a huge role no matter how simple the steps might be. More than you might guess. There are a lot of people who play games on their PC every day when they get home from work, yet their eyes will glaze over the instant you open a terminal. Or they'll be afraid of catching viruses when you link to a torrent tracker. Or they'll be liable to catch a virus because they keep deciding to download some bizarre image mounting software or archive extractor no one has ever heard of.
There's also the principle of the matter. I know people don't like Jim Sterling here much, but I think he raised a great point when he applied Kantian theory to the issue: It's not an issue of "I have to install one launcher to play one game" - imagine a world where you install a different launcher for every game. That's not a world I'd want to live in, and that is the world we are quickly approaching the more we allow all of these different launchers to become normalized.
I know I went on a bit of a tangent a few posts ago, but this really is becoming a problem. Beyond just Steam, I also have to juggle.. Uplay Origin Rockstar Social Club BethesdaNet BattleNet Discord and we're going to have to add Epic Games Store to that list. I know some can brush it off, but this stuff starts to add up. You start forgetting usernames, passwords. Soon you'll forget the account even exists, and these are supposed to hold the games you paid good money for! Ontop of that the average person likely doesn't even have a 2+ TB hard disk. So things will have to give, even if you're likely playing the game that you're forced to uninstall now. One could technically buy newer and bigger drives, but that doesn't fix the fact that these launchers are essentially bloatware. You will run out of space eventually.
In light of this message, I definitely will not be pirating it. I won't be buying it until we see it on alternative platforms, however.
Doesn't matter to me what store it's on, I won't touch denuvo.
If you have actually read this thread before complaining you'll see why this isn't only about "downloading another client is annoying". It is about deals like these hurting the industry and killing competition while also fucking the customer and developers all over. Yeah, "average consumer" that don't care and just keep eating those shit up is what left us with the microtransaction hell in AAA games nowadays.
Seems that they've ran out of money during development, thus forced to accept Epics offering, in exchange of exclusively.
It's not that stupid. They've advertised on steam for ages, meaning most of the preorder sales have already happened. They get a ludicrous boatload of cash from Epic, and they put it on steam a year later to sell it to everyone who refuses to switch launchers, most likely at the original asking price. As long as Epic's offer is large enough, it's not that big of a risk.
Not only this, but every one of these launchers will have their own issues, update schedules, and bugs. Running all of them at the same time is obviously stupid. They also have their own emails for news and everything that you have to unsub to. If you're like me, every so often you get back into GTA5 for a little bit, only to be unable to launch the game entirely because of the launcher, and then needing to verify cache, if that doesn't work, which it never works, I have to uninstall the game, uninstall the launcher, reinstall the launcher, and then reinstall the game, and then make sure it launches, and if it doesn't, repeat all of that until I figure out what the issue is. Fucking GTA could have social club built into the game itself but the forced integration causes 99% of all issues I have. Game runs perfect, launcher runs like shit.
I was locked out of GTA5 for a year due to losing the SC password, the recover password thing never sent me an email. Managed to get it way later when the website was reworked.
The game comes out this month, so development is already over.
that is one hell of an uninformed assumption that makes zero sense
https://twitter.com/RobotBrush/status/1096446867624337410 Little bit of funny.
Wow, they really did do this shit last minute.
Wasn't there another game that did something like this (just hiding something with a sticker on the box) a few years ago?
I do recall that, yeah.
That second image must be outdated, Epic Game Store has to have regional pricing for the US price of Metro Exodus to be $50USD and the Australian price to be $65USD (Yes, they raised it by $5 on release, it now costs exactly the same as it did on Steam before they pulled it).

Stop checking the box that lets them send you marketing emails then They're legally required to have it unchecked by default
