Metro Exodus will be Epic Store Exclusive, Steam Preorders will still be honored

I might pick up these games when they hit Steam. If they hit Steam. But I will not purchase them from Epic, that will never happen unless they completely 180 on all this bullshit and retroactively remove the exclusivity.
For sake of argument, look at the discord store. Because I've had nitro before launch, I have discord games for free. Wow! Free games! You'd think I'd be going nuts over that, right? Plus I boot discord at launch too so it's not like ill never open it, right?
I have never opened the discord store before. I've never installed a game on there before. Until now, I've completely forgot that the discord store existed because all my games I get through steam. Epic strong arming people to use their launcher isn't going to be the big success they think it'll be
I don't want to blame 4A quite on this because it sounds like they didn't know this was going to happen. But nothing certain on that.
Exclusivity is the last thing PC needs and there's no way I'll support any of this.
You posed that as a hypothetical but this literally happens. Certain products are exclusive to certain stores sometimes. In return the product gets a bigger cut of the sale. That's what is happening here. It's just business.
I don't really see the harm. You don't have to buy into this exclusivity like with game consoles. All you have to do is open a different client to purchase the game, what's the big deal?
Some people act like this is the most horrible thing ever. It takes very little effort to just download the client and use it. It's like complaining you have to go to the store next to the other to purchase something. Is it really that big of a deal?
Even if the platform is shitty, how much time do you realistically spend in the client? You could even add the game to Steam as a non-Steam game and use nearly all your features.
On a side-note, the Epic store has the same refund policy. It's obviously not as polished as Steam's store, but then again it's probably not full of shovelware either.
And I never blamed them. They're as much of a victim here and I'm pretty sure they didn't agree to this in the first place.
They must have done the math. I assume Epic offered a big lump sum of cash and a good profit ratio. I also highly doubt the average consumer will care, and there's probably tons of Fortnite players who are also interested in Metro.
In any other industry this would be considered an anti-competitive practice.
Yeah, that's a very recent change. Which is to say the outcry over the old, horrifically fucked up policy forced their hand.
Epic isn't competing for Steam's share of the pie. The upsides of Epic Games Launcher are exclusive to publishers and developers, with the one exception being the free game end users get each month.
The guy that made Steam Spy, who had a fit that Valve eventually caught on and locked him out, by his own self admission designed the Epic store without a forums and review page, for the soul purpose of curbing "the toxicity it brings"
Epic plans to use Twitch streamers, bloggers, etc. to help curate the front page of their store page after the initial run of "Support-a-Creator", and influencers will be paid out of pocket by the developers, with Epic acting as the go between.
Finally, I will copy word for word the ELUA from Epic's page, about uploading content.
Any content that you create, generate, or make available through the Epic Games store application shall be “UGC”. You hereby grant to Epic a non-exclusive, fully-paid, royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, copy, modify, adapt, distribute, prepare derivative works based on, publicly perform, publicly display, make, have made, use, sell, offer to sell, import, and otherwise exploit your UGC for any purposes, for all current and future methods and forms of exploitation in any country. You may not create, generate, or make available any UGC to which you do not have the right to grant Epic such license. In addition, you may not create, generate, or make available any UGC that is illegal or violates or infringes another’s rights, including intellectual property rights or privacy, publicity or moral rights. Epic reserves the right to take down any UGC in its discretion.
Hey here's a funny thought
If developers are flocking off to Epic because Epic offers them a better platform, then it's on Valve for being so shit at retaining developers, not on whatever competitor showed up for being competitive.
Steam is a shithole for developers right now. Valve takes large cuts which are not justified by the state of the platform, anything smaller than AAA gets choked under the weight of advertisement, and the utter lack of curation has lead to indie devs and smaller publishers have to fight to stay on top of a sea of garbage.
At this point I want to see Epic brought to task by regulatory bodies for anti- competitive practices.
so apparently one of the reasons they did this was to offer a lower prices right? Well they can fuck off with that excuse imo because Epics Store has shit regional pricing options and from what I can tell their prices on their store are in USD only. Now, I don't have an account so I don't know if they let you select your region but at face value this "discount" is a slap in the face to Canadians because after currency conversion the "discount" only equates to 20 fucking cents. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

What a savings!
Meaning what exactly? The policy has changed, if you buy the game now you can refund it. You're not impacted.
For an exclusivity deal? Are you aware of the sheer number of companies and media forms that have exclusivity deals? I don't think we should force someone to sell their product everywhere.
Valve could pay them more. Valve could offer all kinds of shit to reel them back in. Valve could maintain a standard that is sufficient to not see developers walk away.
But Valve doesn't care and Valve just wants their platform to run on its own so it can print money with as little management as possible and it's only a matter of time before they start feeling the consequences. If not Epic, then another company will take their place once the situation of Steam becomes unmanageable.
I use multiple sources of information, Steam reviews included. Having access to more opinions on a product is always better.
Nah, that's about user-generated content e.g. mods and stuff
Epic doesn't offer a better platform though. Even fuckin uPlay has more features than the Epic Store.
Epic blatantly paid them for the exclusivity.
Yeah, they could do this shit but it's not healthy competition. It's not good for consumers especially.
Question: Do you care about what is good and healthy for the market and industry, or do you just care about spitting in Valve's eye?
Guess I'm buying it 14th Feb 2020 then
I don't disagree, but it's not suddenly going to be extremely hard to find reviews or opinions.
You have what maybe the end of the day to get it on Steam now?
Well, fuck, I pre-ordered it. Normally I'd just give the middle finger and wait until the exclusivity period is over, but Metro Exodus is my most anticipated title this year, and I trust 4A Games more than most developers. Still, fuck their publisher for this bullshit.
Congratulations, you've stated an obvious fact that only highlights why this is a good deal for Epic and Deep Silver and not the consumer and you've also said something too ridiculous to ignore.
Tons of Fortnite players on PC where this exclusivity deal is happening probably don't have the hardware to play Metro: Exodus. And if they're first and foremost Fortnite players, I can't see this being the game that'll pull them away from Fortnite by the 'tons' either. The TF2-style migration will happen eventually, but I don't think it's going to happen by this time next year, and not for Metro.
Honestly then getting a sales surge on Steam and almost nothing on the Epic Store would be kinda bitter sweet.
Wait, it's supposed to be $50US? The website is showing $60 for me, which is a saving of about $7 compared to the Australian price on Steam.
No shit, it's a good deal for the publisher. That's what business do, find a good deal to make the most money. My entire point is that this move barely impacts the consumer. You may disagree, but I don't think that's ridiculous.
You're making an assumption about Fortnite players having shitty PCs. Fortnite is huge. Whether you like it or not (I think the game is boring but alas), the game is played by all walks of life with all kinds of hardware and interests. It doesn't have to 'pull them away', people can play multiple games. Either way, you automatically advertise to tons of potential players.
I don't care that Epic's Store doens't have game reviews on the store.
The rest of peoples complaints about it, I get and largely agree with, but that's one I'm not sure I follow the problem with too much.
Steam Reviews are fucking garbage. I actively avoid reading them, I actively avoid trying to take in information from them, they're the Youtube comments of "Game Reviews". I'm okay with them not being right on the store, because if I'm going to buy something, i'll google the name first.
