Metro Exodus will be Epic Store Exclusive, Steam Preorders will still be honored

Epic doesn't have one as a way to tempt devs to hop shit to avoid bad press right on their store page.
They are a treasure trove of information, top voted comments often have details to porting issue, general gameplay, and other extremely nice tidbits of info. We did fine, but now you're arguing that "well it wasn't the standard, so we can go backwards"
The internet as a whole is full of bullshit claims about games. Prime example was asscreed odyssey which had a very prominent article saying it took 20 hours to leave the starting island. Shittons of people believed it and found out the dude was full of shit. Again, saying its not important to you, doesn't mean its not important to everyone else.
the point is that its much easier to get a general image of a product right on the store page before you buy it. This goes with all storefronts as a whole, arguing that it can be tossed aside because you don't use it is not an argument at all.
"Where the hell do you propose that we throw away a system that I constantly say is pointless, inaccurate, and useless to me personally." IDK, maybe every point you're making for defending epic removing transparency while shitting on steam's reviews is kinda making you look like you're pushing that viewpoint passively.
Yes, I know. I'm not defending Epic on this.
Again, I'm not arguing for their removal, I'm saying they're not super valuable. The info in Steam reviews can be found elsewhere just as well. Granted, it's nice to have them on the store page and that's why - again - it's fine if they stay. But they're not a necessity.
This is why you look further than the first Google result. I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just saying the Steam review system is prone to the same kind of bullshit.
You're doing a semantics thing here. The Epic store isn't tossing away reviews, they just never had it. I agree that it's convenient, but would you expand the critique to physical game stores, or any other store with any product as well? What happened to trying to inform yourself as best as possible. Do you just decide to buy a game from Steam reviews alone? If you don't, then can you with honesty say that the information in Steam reviews can't be found elsewhere.
I'll condense my point:
It's good that the Steam review exists, but I don't think it's disastrous if it weren't there or if another store didn't have something like it.
I can say something isn't valuable without defending a lack of transparency on Epic's part. If it makes me look like I'm defending them, that's on me for not articulating myself properly. I'm not defending them, I'm saying it doesn't truly matter in the grand scheme of things. It's a minor inconvenience.
Hope that makes it clearer.
Actually, yeah. I go to Discord store and look at some indie exclusive and I get 0 clue about its quality unless I spend time asking around in their Discord server.
AAA and indie darlings won't have this issue but hey the reviews don't update when the game does. Why do I have to deal with these additional inconveniences?
Steam reviews are more useful that you think for the common customer. Let me give you an example:
Customer X is watching the last year E3 and he watches the trailer for Just Cause 4, his favorite franchise. He gets hyped and watch every trailer and gameplay from the official channel. The game launches, he read the review on IGN ( https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/12/04/just-cause-4-review ), he understands that has problems but is still a new Just Cause. He finally decides to purchase the game, he goes to Steam, and... a "Mostly Negative" in red is in the game page, then scrolls to the bottom and reads that the game is awfully optimised and has a ton of technical problems. He decides to not buy the game.
The review system is basically the final barrier between you and the "Add to Cart" button.
So if you google the game or look up gameplay videos on YouTube, you find nothing? Alternatively, will a review on the store page of a game with certainty convince you to spend your money? Or will you still gather more opinions?
It's good to have as much information as possible, of course.
I feel like a re-cap of the Origin launch.
That's a fair point, I guess I was looking at this far too much from my own point of view. I tend to look into all kinds of things before I buy something.
Fuck Epic Games for doing this bullshit, as they can't be bothered to properly compete with Steam so they throw around Fortnite money and force stupid exclusivity deals.
Fuck Deep Silver for agreeing to their bullshit, can't believe some people are actually defending this by claiming that this is competition when it clearly is not.
I read and write steam reviews, I find them very reliable. I can READ, y'know, and decide for whether that each particular review is a joke, tantrum or irrelevant. It's this first point of impression that press me towards learning more about the game to see if it is worth my time. 95%+ overwhelmingly positive with at least a couple hundred reviews is almost always a pique of interest. Meanwhile in Discord store I'd had to search for journalist reviews... oh, the game's isn't big enough to get an opencritic score, NOR an active subreddit. Shoot. Hidden gems become even more impossible.
To top it off, without user reviews and community forum, early access is literally a gamble.
Not sure if it was posted yet, but THQ Nordic pushed out their statement about this on Twitter:

Seems THQ Nordic had nothing to do with this decision. It was all Koch Media - apparently they have optional independence at the moment. I expect that may chance, given that THQ sounds pissed as hell.

This leavese to wonder if Epic will or already has approch Take Two to get exclusive rights to RDR2 when it comes to PC, which will eventually happen.
The optimistic rating is needed now more than ever.
Steam Reviews is definitely one of the better solution for game reviews simply due to the extra information it provides. The way it can be abused can be applied to practically every other platform and it doesn't really take away it's usefulness. It might not be as good as simply asking your friends about it but it's still better than places like Google or Reddit and reading text reviews are a lot easier compared to watching a Youtube review imo.
Rockstar would probably be selling the game on their own store since they still use their social club shit. I doubt it would be exclusive to the Epic Store.
All things considered it's not that surprising that THQ Nordic has been rather hands-off with Deep Silver's actions. It explains why Metro Exodus uses Denuvo while THQ Nordic's own games not only lack that DRM, but even have simultaneous GOG and Steam releases. Not to mention the fact that Koch Media's gaming label still exists to begin with.
What a clusterfuck, I immediately thought of this comic when I read through the thread and made this.
What kind of vegetables are in charge over there? I was hoping it was obvious to every sane game dev that you make like 80-90% of your profit within the first year, right?

How is that even remotely what I said? Get a grip.
I already said the tactic was underhanded. I'm not happy about it. But I AM interested to see how Valve responds to a more aggressive competitor. And it absolutely is a form of competition no matter how much you insist it doesn't live up to your private definition of the word.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-competitive_practices
Exclusive dealing, where a retailer or wholesaler is obliged by contract to only purchase from the contracted supplier.
I know is not exactly the same situation, but come on, this is the opposite to "competition".
The fact that the publishers themselves, and Valve are posting straight up harsh criticism of this is a big sign that this idea wasn't thought through even remotely. There is genuine anger in each of their statements, something I've rarely seen put out as an official statement.

hahahahahahahahahhaa got my copy bet your are jealous
They are competing for what Valve has. I didn't think this word choice would be such a strong point of contention. How would you guys prefer I refer to a company trying to eat into a market another company already has?
No, I don't WANT them to do that. But I am interested to see WHAT they do. Not excited. Not happy. Just generally curious to see where the situation goes from here.
I'm confused now.

So does THQ Nordic not outright own Koch Media, or are they saying their subsidiary doesn't report to them about everything?
https://twitter.com/PCGamesN/status/1090253755390414848
I don't get why they're defending this. Anti-competitive practices is not a sign of fucking supply and demand, also they're all digital keys, there is no supply issue.
Comparing Epic buying exclusivity to Valve self publishing on their own platform is not the same thing at all.
Another quality pile of trash written by Ali Jones who had no idea about what they're talking.
I imagine many of these people receive some kind of kick backs from the companies involved or have some kind of undisclosed personal investment. These arguments are on weak foundation and serve as nothing more than a prop piece for Epic.
I'm at least glad to see this isn't THQ Nordic's fault, the way they've handled their IPs so far has been great and this doesn't seem like something they'd do, based on that approach. It's a shame as i've been looking forward to the game since it was announced, but I do not want to support this or the way it's been done.
On the brightside, when it comes to steam next year, it'll probably be a reduced price if not on sale.
They can't expect to charge us full price for a game that's been out for a year and probably is cheaper on Epic's Epic Client....right?
(((gaming journalism))), everyone.
If anything it'll be 50$ to match Epic.
Monster Hunter: Worlds came out 7 months after consoles on PC and it was still full price. These publishers really don't care lol.
Why wouldn't it be full price
