• Netflix Urges Users to Stop Thirsting Over Ted Bundy, a Literal Serial Killer

I did a play some years ago called Columbinus, and one of the things I had done to research the actual event was go through the Columbine tag on Instagram. That's when I found people who call themselves columbiners. Needless to say, that's when I knew that the internet was truly, truly a mistake. The fetishization of serial killers is something I will never in my life understand.
Any psychology professionals or students on Facepunch? I have to wonder if the media contagion effect has been demonstrated to hold true with serial murder as with school shootings and other mass violence. Portraying a serial killer as a conventionally attractive and popular actor just does not seem quite right. As a kid growing up in Kansas I had an opportunity to attend a lecture on the local serial-murderer/rapist BTK shortly a few years after he was convicted. Saw some private police photos from the crime scenes; the presenter apologized afterwards, realizing showing unbelievably gruesome photos to students was not appropriate. I've seen plenty of terrible things on the internet, nothing has bothered me more than what I was shown then. Attempting to profit off of this stuff is unbelievably fucked up.
Netflix might be trying reverse psychology but yikes the trailer for the Zac Efron one make him look like a rock star.

tfw john wayne gacy had a lineup of women wanting to be his gf and you can't get shit
Women tend to fall for the bad boys... For some reason that I will never be able to grasp.
Those people are fucked up but I do not like this channel. It's not exactly hard to explain why thirsting over serial killers is bad, or to name another one of her videos, being unhealthy is bad. But she's not doing that, she's shining a light on the existence of serial killer fangirls and saying "haha this bad here's a half assed meme to prove it". Which imo kind of undermines the whole premise.
Its been known that media attention on serial/spree killers encourages and incentives copycats and others.
Yes, they refer to this idea as the media contagion hypothesis. I'm just wondering if the is any evidence demonstrating the effect with serial killers/rapists. Spree killings happen spontaneously and occur within a short period of time. Different mindset for sure.
His charm is a lie, mostly pushed because it's a better story. Ted Bundy was an awkward loner who talked a lot of big talk. He didn't lure victims in with his "charm", he would pretend to be a police officer, fake an injury, or just sneak into their room while they were sleeping. He wasn't that smart either, he had pretty bad LSAT scores and only got into law school because of connections from his political work. He didn't even finish the degree he dropped out
Here’s How Facepunchers Could Still Have a Chance
Whenever I see videos of him his charm just comes off as a really bad act.
Only a small sub-set. Don't buy into this rhetoric as this is how incels came to be.
I was going to say this. The women who list after serial killers in this way is such a small amount compared to the population, it’s dumb to say that it’s natural for women to be attracted to dangerous men.
They also tend to have problems of their own. A stable mind isn't attracted to somebody who is in prison for multiple brutal murders.
I didn't mean just murderers, just bad boys in general lol but I get your point
Literally the origin story for Harley Quinn.
Good thing I'm a gamer, then. I'm gonna be drowning in pussy.
Not really. Like everyone else they just want to not be bored constantly. Being able to keep a conversation going and being able to bring new experiences to their lives is far more important than "being bad". A decent part of partner selection in my experience is novelty. I take it you're a younger poster?
Not really a younger poster, just dumb.
Not really. Serial killers are noticeably different from spree killers. For the serial killer the kill and ritual around the kill is the reward. They enjoy something in taking a life. Most don't want to get caught usually because getting caught means they can't continue that ritual and receive their reward. Now once they are caught many delight in the media attention, especially in seeing their kills and the facts around them replayed and broadcast over and over as they get to relive those moments. So media contagion doesn't really play in with them as much. Spree killers don't care about the killing specifically, it's just a byproduct of trying to achieve some greater goal and they may not even actually enjoy it. They kill because of something outside the satisfaction and ritual of them kill. Either they are terrorists seeking some political goal or attention, or as as reaction to something in their life. Many of these do ultimately enjoy the attention and don't care about their kills, instead wanting people to talk about them, their motivations, all of that. If it's motivated by attention, they may even want to be caught to make sure they get credit. Otherwise they may run or try to take their own life. The ones who aren't in it for attention, media contagion doesn't always impact them. The glory seekers though thrive off media contagion. They want to be the focus of the media while the serial killer wants their killings and victims to be the focus. Also serial killings have seen a sharp drop in recent years, while spree killings have increased dramatically. This seems to be in part because of mass communication making it hard for the serial killer to get very far, while spree killers are perfectly fine in that. Another factor is newer and better forensic science, meaning it's easier to track and catch the serial killer while the spree killer doesn't need long term survival.
Save some for the rest of us goddammit
I wouldn't worry about it too much, that stereotype is fairly overblown and exaggerated anyway. There's no point trying to act like a prick in the hope you will give off a badboy appeal and attract more girls. Shit, for all we know you might actually be a girl lol- and in that case your posts already stand as proof that it's not something all women ever look for in a partner.
