• YouTube wants ‘dislike mobs’ to stop weaponizing the dislike button

They're only saying this because people hate their shitty corporate garbage 'rewind'
consider: they have several teams
I never said that they didn't. I was simply giving a summary of the entire thread.
They're being cheeky, but to their credit, the first sentence of the article says the rewind video is an example of the "weaponized dislike button." As far as I've ever seen, people don't get dislike bombed unless there's some decent reason. If the creator wants minimum dislikes/is trying to monetize the channel, they should be able to figure out how to not be controversial enough to spark outrage. If they want to be controversial, they should expect lower like/dislike ratios. It's even still possible to be controversial, have a poor like/dislike video now and then, and still be a successful channel. I've never seen a subscriber be mobbed for no reason, but I don't watch very controversial channels either. Can anyone provide some channels that were mobbed? They want creators to understand why they're being disliked? Because they apparently pissed off a group of people, what else is there to understand? The creator should be able to decide if whatever they're saying is worth it. "Another [option] is requiring more granularity when someone downvotes,” Leung says. “If you’re going to give a downvote, maybe you have to click a checkbox as to why you don’t like this video. That could give the creator more information, and it would also give viewers pause instead of just doing it impulsively. On the other hand, that’s complicated to build, complicated to collect, and then to relay the results to the creator in analytics or Creator Studio." This isn't going to do a fucking thing to stop "dislike mobs." If you pissed off a bunch of people, they're going to be fine with clicking an extra checkbox. "The last option, which Leung describes as the most extreme option, is just to remove dislikes entirely. It’s not “as democratic,” according to Leung as, “not all dislikes are from dislike mobs." This would be pathetic, and it would make it HARDER for most creators to figure out how to avoid saying things that draw criticism.
Am I out of touch? No, it is the dislike button that is wrong.
they got offended by a button
