Fuck that, pirate it then buy a copy on Steam when it releases to make up for it. Epic doesn't deserve to be the only platform capable of allowing users to play the game for a full year.
yea if people actually want to play the game they'll buy it on epic anyway
No, there are plenty of people who really want to play the game and support the series but think not supporting scummy, underhanded decisions that negatively impact consumers is the more important consideration here.
who cares, it's not like using another launcher will make you unable to play it
I don't think you are seeing the point here. People WANT to play the game, they just don't wanna support the bad practices. And I hope alot of people don't buy it from the epic launcher, because the only way they are gonna learn is if people start voting with their wallet's.
I mean if you use Linux that's objectively what will happen.
I actually use the steam controller so it'll technically be a bit of an awkward situation where I have to run it through both launchers if I got it on Epic however got it on steam before it was removed so fuck it lol though there may still be big issues, and its hard to tell if the steam update will even get bug updates
The books are better than the games anyway. The books, funnily enough have better world building, and convey subtle things that the games for some reason can't.
I wonder if Epic paid him personally to defend this crap too
Didn't 4A have the Metro series get shafted by publishers in the past, too? I remember there being a fiasco where the intended difficulty (ranger hardcore, or something like that) had been gutted and repurposed as a pre-order bonus because of a publisher's demandings? Looks like its happening again
Yeah the second game had some really shitty DLC practices Ranger mode was originally introduced with post-launch DLC for the first game that was also free on PC as a small little "thanks for playing the game, here's some more game" thing Then the second game came around and now Deep Silver is the publisher so they said "Make Ranger mode a $5 day 1 DLC and pre-order the game now for an exclusive gun (which we'll make available later as paid DLC) and buy the season pass now to pre-order all the other DLC if you enjoyed the Abzats in the first game because you can only get it with the season pass!"
I get people's outrage and I agree that still advertising the game on Steam is a prick move, especially with this being so abrupt and close to the game's release. That being said, if the situation were reversed, I'd expect to hear a lot of "lol who cares, Steam is better and everyone uses it already" (a.k.a. the PlayStation Argument™) which would only serve to enforce Steam's near-monopoly on the PC market and demonstrate their actual monopoly on users' mindshare. So while I feel for the users, I've got no pity for Steam itself and can't even entirely fault Epic or the publisher here. Sure, they could be the "bigger man" and allow the Steam release anyway, but let's be real: that would accomplish nothing for them. We've seen this demonstrated time and again with competing services and storefronts: it doesn't matter how much better their service gets than Steam if they don't get some outright exclusives, because people will just want to continue using Steam because "it's what I and my friends all already use" or - failing that - Gaben memes. It's the Gamer's Choice™. Even Steam's existing competitors have been hit with this: Battle.net is about the next-closest competitor to Steam in terms of user acceptance and that's due to it already having been an established thing with its own hit exclusives before Steam was even a thing. GOG has a lot of goodwill but it's really just trundling along silently in the others' vast shadows. And don't even get me started on the enduring "lol origin" no matter how much Origin improves (and seriously, Origin's gotten pretty good). In some ways, this just reminds me of the whole Bayonetta 2 situation. But while I get wanting to make a stand on Metro Exodus because of how unfairly they sprung this on users and because of the precedent it sets, you don't have to drop three figures of real cash on the Epic Store like you did a Wii U so a part of me can't help but think "suck it up, it's a few hundred more megs on your hard drive for an extra launcher" when it comes to the majority of users. Of course, those who are stuck paying more on Epic because of regional issues or even unable to play at all due to OS support are getting the shaft, I agree. I don't even have a stake in defending this move. Hell - if anything - I'd be annoyed too if I were planning to get the game because I myself use Steam almost exclusively as it is; it's the only client that I have running 24/7 on my PC when the others are only running if I need them or have forgotten to close them out afterwards. But even then I would still get why this is happening. I'd be singing a different tune if Epic were the giant in this situation, but Steam is so big that outright taking from them is the only way I see Epic gaining any ground. In hindsight, we shouldn't have even let the PC market get to this point.
How is it "betrayal" if someone doesn't buy a product when they don't agree with its business ethics. .. ?
What a shitty comparison, steam has never bought exclusivity. Also most people don't support the platform it's self because of the lack of reviewer systems, or forums to troubleshoot. Them snapping games from other platforms via bribes is the shit icing ontop of the shit cake.
I guarantee it, this will be the most pirated game of 2019, easily. And the profit loss from being on Steam will be nothing, compared to how much this game will be pirated. The Exodus subreddit keep's getting flooded with sentiments like this, as do most warez sites.
I ain't seeing any similarities. The fact of the matter is that despite Steam's flaws, of which there are many, it's still the best out of the competition.
I remember not wanting to switch from xfire to steam back in mid 2000s (which I used primarly to play CoD2) for the client being so laggy and shit back then. You can't compare it with todays steam though. Kinda sad I lost all my contacts and screenshots from xfire....
I really don't see the issue with this, the game is cheaper, who cares if it's on Steam or not.
You don't see an issue with a game that's been advertised as coming to Steam since it was announced suddenly being taken off Steam less than a month before launch to instead move to a platform that is objectively worse in terms of features (along with other issues), because rather than making a worthwhile, better service and compete that way, developers are instead being paid for exclusivity so players have no choice?
Except when it's not. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58263/ac7d4637-ef84-4ef7-8294-b38476f9d6b8/Annotation 2019-01-28 113726.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58263/1c208189-34ae-4dde-8dbb-ae0f7a7f1b76/Annotation 2019-01-28 110051.jpg What a bargain!
It's also more expensive if you're in the Eurozone or the UK. Plus Epic Store is a shit service, like worse than uPlay even.
Not really no, Steam is pretty whatever in general. They're all just icons for launching games.
I draw the line at using any launcher that has been known to compromise personal information. So Epic Launcher and Bethesda.net Launcher can both go fuck themselves.
Yeah no that doesn't reflect reality.
I'm on the side of "at this point, I don't really care as long as the game is good." The decision is scummy as fuck, no bones about that and I'm not a fan of it either, but I already have the launcher installed because of UE4 and Fortnite, and a scummy business decision does not suddenly make the game bad. The game is single player too, which makes this decision at least a bit easier to swallow. If this was done for a multiplayer game that could've benefited from Steam's currently vastly superior networking and social backends, then yeah, I'd just wait for the Steam release. It's like this one person I know who's screaming about how people are playing Apex Legends because "it's published by EA and you shouldn't support them." I totally get that argument, just as I totally get this one. In both cases, I would usually not support this, but a fun game is a fun game. I'm hoping Exodus is good, and if it is, then I don't really mind buying it on another platform. If you refuse to buy it and wait, more power to you and you aren't wrong for expressing your distaste. In fact I encourage it. Debates like this should be had, as it helps to make the industry less muddy. Just try to not take it personal when someone goes against your take.
Poor joke here but does any of those games actually contain a functioning Metro? This is a genuine question cause there's many train simulators out there but I would love to play a metro simulator instead. In any case, exclusivity is bullshit regardless, just make your shit available for everyone dickheads.
How's the gameplay tho?
Epic is extremely anticonsumer and Tencent is trying to monopolize the industry. Fuck everyone who is OK with this, the Chinese government doesn't need its hands in everything.
Most people agree there should be competition against Steam. This is how you do it, but if everybody keeps being babies about installing game clients you'll never see it.
Exclusivity isn't competition, it's exclusivity. If I wanted to get dicked around by companies buying exclusive rights to a game so that it's harder for me to get hold of it, I'd buy a console. And considering some of these clients "you'll never see" are usually inferior to steam, I don't blame people for not wanting to use them. Fuck, the Bethesda Launcher likes to delete entire games during updates and accidentally leak userdata.
