Metro's author pleads for fans to not "betray us" for last minute exclusivity.

No, offering pre-orders and the presumption of continued sale on one platform, then suddenly making it exclusive (bar those pre-orders) to another is specifically how you don't do it.
This literally is the opposite of how you do it. This is anti-competition. No one can compete with Epic because Epic won't allow any other store to sell the game. You can't go to GOG for instance and get the game cheaper, or get it on sale on Steam. No, you get it for whatever Epic decides you'll get it for and nothing else.
Competition is competeing prices of games, not throwing money to keep exclusivity. How is it competition to mKe sure youre the only platform that can sell a product vs multiple platforms competing for the lowest price.
I feel this image that has been circulating here and elsewhere best illustrates the matter:

If we ignore Steam, why is it okay for Epic to be the only store to sell Metro?
What if I wanted to buy this on Amazon, I can't!
Sure the console versions are untouched, but if i'm looking for a PC version I can't find it anymore.
Is this really the competition we should be promoting, all for one and none for the rest?
Competition is offering a superior service that users voluntarily prefer. Arbitrary exclusivity isn’t competition, it’s a spit in the eye.
gonna pirate this and launch via Steam to vote via my wait no im just a scumbag.
If 4A has any kind of guy who knows his shit they have a contract that makes sure that they get money when the publisher gets money and I strongly suspect that Epic paid quite the sum to make the game exclusive...
I'm sorry, but what the fuck kind of single-track mindset is this?
Jesus christ, how many times do we have to eviscerate this damn claim.
It's almost like you haven't read the thread, or the other thread for that matter.
Or don't know what competition is, lol.
Nice, so looks like steam won’t have a preload.

Cheap Silver
I know heaps of people have already piled on you for this, but seriously dude this is the exact opposite of how you promote healthy market competition. I don't know why you said this is 'how you do it' because it's simply not true.
Bitches can't read? News to me
competition is the word we use when a game isn't on steam or anywhere else other than a single store thats allowed to sell it until an entire year passes right? /s
Its that thing people claim to be for when really they just want to piss on something else.

Seems its actually the other way around now, Steam will be able to preload, not Epic!
Jesus christ it's still a better experience than Epic and it's not even really releasing on steam anymore.
"Alrighty, seems to me like we shat on Steam users enough for now so let's switch it up and shit on Epic users instead"
This game's path to release is hell of a ride
So how long before Glukhovsky pulls a Sapkowski and sues 4A?
Probably not. Now he might go after Koch/Deep Silver if he believes their behavior may have harmed the reputation of the books on his side of the IP. But from what I can tell he is close friends with the people at 4A.
