I still don't think furries are hard to define. It's in the name, furry fandom. Wikipedia puts it simple; people with an interest in anthropomorphic animal characters. That's what all furries have in common.
That’s a low bar that would likely place a lot of the world in the category. When people talk furries they usually mean suiters/people that make it their identity
That’s like using nerd to only mean cosplayers and people whose identity is “I’m such a nerd!”
This is why furries struggle with their image, because for some reason a furry can’t be someone who’s chill and relatively normal.
Furries literally started out as the funny animal fandom; people interested in cartoon animals.
The funny animal fandom was all about sexual content, though. Whether or not furries are also just that or something more broad depends on who you ask.
Now you're just being ridiculous
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerd
If we're going by wikipedia articles like you are (of which there isn't even one for "Furries" only the culture/fans itself) nerd is a state of being, not an interest, and much like you're combating for furries, one of negative connotations based on judgement
even the furry fandom article makes a distinction that the "furry" as referring to a person is lifestylers, which goes even further than my thought that simply having a fursona/representing yourself online as such is a denominator
Not even kind of. The three people that essentially formed the modern furry community were narcisssistic dramatical screechbeasts and only one of them ever expressed remorse in steering the community straight into endless teenage drama and fursuit hookups.
There's a reason anthropomorphic stuff and furry are about as far separated as you can get, and it has nothing to with style or content, it is all about personal intent, and until the furry community matures it will continue to be.
Why is it then that when a person ridiculing furries turns out to have a furry art folder, people see them as a hypocrite?
You’re essentially saying that a person can’t be a ‘closet furry’ because only someone who identifies as one counts.
That’s not how labels work, you can distance yourself from them but you can’t stop people from seeing you for who you are.
publicly closeted
uhm, how?
I reworded it. Also, you’re in luck because that was a real example based on this post. Can’t see the ratings anymore, but you get the idea.
"why do people call them hypocrites when this"
"where"
"here's a single example of me calling someone a hypocrite for it in a different context"
like, not only is this not someone having a folder but it's someone who was bitching about teenagers and mentioned specifically sex crazes for furries and bronies
Because you are two radically different people with different values.
I'm going to play the devil's avocado here and say that furries don't own the concept of anthropomorphism. You can enjoy it without having any association with the fandom, and anyone who labels someone like that as a furry in denial is kind of a prick and should stop treating it like it's some kind of sexual orientation.
Forgive me for assuming your question was a thinly veiled insinuation of equating furry subculture with mental illness. I wouldn't have banked on it if you were asking something that wasn't immediately answered by skimming the wikipedia article on the topic.
It’s not about owning the concept, it’s about having a clear definition that is in line with other definitions of fandoms/subcultures.
You can enjoy anthro without being a furry, but if we’re going to call it a fandom, being a fan of that stuff should be the cutoff. What makes someone a fan is what’s subjective.
Wanting to fuck animals is a mental illness
I love watching Sonic style on players. His popoffs are honestly hilarious.
Yeah seeing him getting fucking destroyed in the last DBFZ tourney was pretty hilarious I agree
I think the identity of being furry is far more intrinsic to the essence of a furry than the actual appreciation of anthropomorphism.
What is the relevance of this to the quote?
Eeehhh?
I regularly play Rocket League with a furry, other than a furry pic as an avatar he's absolutely chill and normal.
Exactly, but some see that as “just a guy who likes cartoons, furries are the obsessive ones”
I always found it hilarious that people will say you’re not a furry if you’re just in it for the porn, but also say that furry is just a fetish. I know they’re likely not the same people, but still.
no hes not normal dont lie to yourself or others on this board
Hey that's pretty rude
But it's the truth
Are you saying you think furries are zoophiles?
Is this going to devolve into another one of those threads where people get banned for advocating for furries to be gassed
Nah. This threads done. There's nothing new to discuss and now we're running in circles and going off on tangents.
