Ive never had a random discussion about sex with adults in my life. Woth friends? Sure but never, literally never, out of the blue in my work place. In in the film industry everything is a giant joke so they made jokes about everything, but outside of that nope. Don’t know why you deny this experience lol
man this thread is a fucking trainwreck, at least it's exposed some absolute crackpots. I'm actually astonished that because people are showing disapproving opinions of someone's OTT advertisement of their sexuality and making that their only personality trait (even from those who have the same preference), they are apparently homophobic. [collectively] You're on facepunch, an arguably left leaning, for the most part inclusive (at least LGBTQ+ wise) space. Get your head out of your ass and stop using sexual preference as a scapegoat to deny someone else's opinion. That shit does absolute wonders at tainting your cause.
https://puu.sh/CM7Tq.png when the fuck was heterophobia a thing?
Nice edit there chief. Heres where I stand, though sonicfox was cringy and said some stupid things on twitter, hes not a bad person from the massive amount of people who have worked with him or interacted with. But, this concern trolling of "he hurts the LGBT community" is idiotic. The LGBT community is used to single people being picked out for being the strawman of the entire movement. So either A) you are completely oblivious to that fact, or B) you're using it as a way to vent internal or external homophobia ala oaf. At the end of the day, sonic fox will disappear from the spotlight, and another lgbt person with take their place. We've seen it with all LGBT figureheads, nothing new.
Only reason the thread is a Trainwreck is because of idiots that equate Sonicfox to gayness itself as a concept As if criticism of one is criticism of all somehow
I wasn't meaning that post at Sonic, moreso the utter morons in this thread vehemently protecting him from criticisms. He isn't hurting the LGBTQ+ community, sure he's annoying, but it's the folks we've seen in this thread who are.
mate i've never heard anyone use heterophobia unironically.
Heteros really cramp my style, he's got a point you know
I can formally announce that I am in fact a homophobic homosexual. You caught me. Fuck the gays. No, literally, fuck them. /s obviously
There are heterophobic gay people out there. Though they're generally the extremely isolated types who spend all their time online and have no face-to-face interaction, like the mirror of incels who spend all day bitching about how all women are whores. I was in a group a long while ago that had a guy who fucking hated straight people and felt the need to talk about it all the time. Over half the people in the group were gay, bi, or trans and they eventually got so sick of his shit they silently created a new group so they could avoid him. He also believed bisexuality wasn't real, so there's that. I'm not saying heterophobia is at all common, but it definitely exists.
Heterophobic is indeed a silly word but I have noticed people on like twitter saying shit that’s essentially hate speech about “cishets”. Even stranger they’re often not called out for it, or they’re even praised. Then there’s people a few pages back that claimed to despise hetero people’s PDA or discussing of sex life both of which have nothing to do with making your sexuality your personality trait, go to defense or leaning down and whispering “I’m gay” as a victory taunt. So I kind of get where you’re coming from saying it, but I also agree it’s an odd term to use
I've seen a few times on this site where members of the LGBT community treat straight people as this singular hostile entity who collectively seeks the removal anyone whose not like them. I mean shit a few pages ago you had someone unironically use the phrase "the hets" in the same post lambasting people who use the term "the gays".
want to explain which website this was?
I already told you twitter, I think frapple is referring to facepunch when saying "this site" though
Look man, I'm not saying that it's an established term or something that's really prevalent and I'll agree the wording is strange. You are exaggerating when you say "Oh yeah I see and hear heterophobia all the time", literally one or two users have said that it may exist in some form - nobody has claimed it's some major thing. I know of a couple folks whom, whether due to horrific experiences in their youth or just their behaviour, have these tendencies. I had someone who was actively uncomfortable around any straight males; not really knowing how to behave and kept themselves isolated. That's a bit more passive than someone else who used to be big in a musical theatre society I used to be in, who actively made comments that "the straights are invading our space" and would actively dislike any straight person they came across. I wouldn't have ever really made a conscious effort to categorise their behaviour, but i would probably best describe it as heterophobic. Yes, these are very isolated incidents, but a very small number of people do exhibit that behaviour. The only reason I've brought this up is because this guy is being hilariously hypocritical in their argument, and thus I wanted to highlight that hypocrisy by using heterophobia which in my opinion does sum up their attitude and also due to it's similarity in writing with homophobia. Disclaimer, i'm not saying that these two things are remotely equivalent in impact. Might not have been the best shout to do but I'm not just pulling shit out of my ass.
You seriously have to be so far up Persecution Complex's arsehole to think that gay people somehow have some agenda against straight people. Yea some dumbasses on twitter or tumblr probably say stupid shit occasionally. But at best, thats like a few dozen idiots. Meanwhile you got hundreds of millions of homophobic people on this fucking rock.
Damn, until I read this thread, I had no idea SF was this disliked and after reading quite few posts why, I can't really blame them for it.
I already conceded that the term heterophobia is dramatic/humorous but I can't exactly deny having seen peeps that claim to hate straight people before now THAT is what strawmanning is holy shit
You want to actually send some actual studies or news reports about the rise of Heterophobia instead of this "I heard this guy talk about this guy" bullshit? Cause i checked for news articles about Heterophobia. All i get is "Heterophia is a new conspiracy theory created by homophobia" or its far-right/alt-right websites promoting Heterophobia as somehow a legit thing.
No. Heterophobia is a real thing, it's just a very uncommon thing. In fact no one said they see it all the time, I specifically said it is very uncommon and have only known one person who was heterophobic in my life (for comparison I used to know a lot of homophobic people, but their opinions have changed with the times). It's like how Misandry is a thing, but it's way less pronounced than Misogyny and you'll mostly see example of it on obscure blogs and tumblr accounts about how you can only 'smash the patriarchy' by cutting off men's balls. But those people are already fucking nuts so no one is going to give them the time of day anyway.
It is strawmanning when you literally change his argument to the opposite of what he's saying.
tbqh its hard to take him seriously https://puu.sh/CMaKL.png https://puu.sh/CMaLs.png https://img.huffingtonpost.com/asset/55b63a441400002f002e0c71.jpeg?cache=9dm7nlttqo He's basically this guy.
it absolutely is strawmaning lol you're repeatedly arguing against claims that aren't made
holy shit where are you getting any of this from, i've not once said that there's some agenda against straight people or implied it, you've completely made that up out of your head. Some people dislike straight people. I think that makes them heterophobic. Not alt-right gay agenda shit. You're blowing this waaaay out of proportion for what I've said. I'd be tempted to just take all of this back and say I'm chatting garbage, but I'm wanting to know how on earth you've managed to extrapolate what i've said of "i know a couple people who showed a disdain towards straight folk and i'd call them heterophobic" to an alt-right "there's a widespread gay agenda against the straights".
imagine reading this and not realizing it's satire this is just embarrassing
"cite a study to prove that this concept exists and is rampant and in common usage as a word or you're a lying concern troll" that's ridiculous, but what would you call the inverse of this? or did you even read the thread if you replaced the words in these posts and the posts they're responding to with the opposite terms, i have no doubt they could be considered homophobic. you've latched onto this phrase and started this thread of whataboutism and goalpost-shifting to say something never existed that clearly exists, and you're ignoring the fact that it's happening in this very thread. not only that, you are misrepresenting this guy by saying that he's claiming it's so common and widespread when he's clearly referring to a fringe. you're basically saying that it doesn't exist and we shouldn't talk about it when it's happening right here and now. why are you so emotionally invested in making people who disagree with you look like secret homophobes? "want to explain which website this was" when you know full well.
good, after EVO he was such a smug piece of condescending shit on twitter that i regretted wanting him to win despite my FGC-savvy friends warning me he was a shitheel. fuck that guy
I have to agree that the 'cishets' thing is a minority within a minority, you're not going to find LGBTQ people in large numbers who want to hit straight people. You'll see it on twitter because the internet amplifies the overly dramatic. I'm not defending his rhetoric but you have to remeber the African American community is still massively homophobic; gay men are seen as the absolute lowest of lows. So he might be screaming it because it intensely challenges the standards and norms of black men in these communities which need challenging. And with the huge minority presence in the fighting games world; that kind of battle cry is arguably a part of it.
The thing is that what he's doing is challenging anything. It's not going to make homophobic people less homophobic if he acts like a weirdo, if anything it'll send the total opposite message. There's nothing wrong with him being openly gay it's just he does it in an obnoxious manner. I've literally known gay people who get irritated and being 'represented' by these sorts of people because what really needs to be promoted is the idea that gay people are just normal every day people with a preference for the same gender, and it's not their sole defining factor. What sonic fox does is the total opposite of that by acting weird. Of course really sonic fox SHOULDN'T be considered a representative of the gay community, but because people are crying homophobia at anyone who points out what a weirdo he it's sending the message that the way he acts is something inherent with gay people, which it isn't.
What a mess of thread, for sure some people went into writting walls of text just because someone says I'm gay and complaining or praising about it. Like, if you consider it obnoxius because you already get message then proceed to ignore it? Facepunch loves to go into exaggerated lengths for such simple things, really.
