Update on our actions related to the safety of minors on YouTube
Highlight:
Videos that include minors and are at risk of predatory comments may
receive limited or no ads (yellow icon). If you think we made a mistake
please appeal. We’ll continue to refine our approach in the coming weeks and months.
While people think that these changes may affect the entire platform, the scope is quite small, as it's a measure to try to reduce the endangerment of minors.
You should still be able to make ad revenue of it, but you also need to ensure your own comment section is policed, as youtube are putting a fine line in the sand
The thing is, you do have perfect control over who your ads go to. That's the entire purpose of data collection, which is how google and facebook make their kabillions. All the morlae outrage of "coke is advertising on teh nathzees!" bullshit is a complete lie. It's an artificial controversy drummed up by advertisers, old media and patent trolls to lower advertising prices via an excuse to boycott, to strike down the competition that's driving old media out of buisness, and good old fashioned scalping, respectively.
Trouble is, youtube bowed to that initial play, and bowing to morale outrage is an intractable admission of weaknes, because you've admitted to everyone that you have to bow to anyone claiming to be offended. This is a hole youtube/google dug for itself then, and has now dragged us all down with it. All they had to do was go "fuck off" that one time and none of this bullshit would be happening.
You say that but Youtube is also not making any money at all; its a constant money sink and its been getting bigger as legal and cultural pressures have mounted on it. In addition, they've rushed solution after solution into the system to a point where the automated systems are entirely fucking broken.
You treat Youtube like a victim in all this and I'll be up front; they've repeatedly done the bare minimum or worse, made systems so lazy that they damage legitimate channels and users instead. Youtube could've forced themselves through this but we'd also then also be dealing with near on silence and bare minimums like Facebook during the whole catastrophe that was their launch in Myanmar which a 3 year build up of people warning facebook.
In addition, the tools themselves for advertisers are give you fine control but in reality most companies just hit the generalized options to begin with. Youtubers should be approaching advertising the same way many instagram users; through contracts.
Yeah you go Youtube, fuck those pedophiles and literally everyone else who uses your service!
Well that's just the point, this ongoing kafkha trap is driving their revenue down.
And they're not the victim of it, they're the idiot perpetrators of their own problems. Them getting their fucking shit together and not being a bunch of subnormal morons would be good for them.
Youtube never made money, the initial sale to Google was directly because they could no longer afford to keep it going.
And every other month Garry mentions off hand that he'll probably nuke the site tomorrow
Making less money does not make an operational deficit better, that is correct.
What's even more fucked is the fact that when there's live TV news coverage of a shooting or a tragedy, these companies have absolutely no problem having their products be advertised but god forbid that they have an ad on a video where someone says fuck
Meanwhile in Brazil youtube have been showing this ad uncensored, literally showing tits out.

YouTube is not in charge of vetting ads. YouTube, like many other sites, pulls ads from AdWords. It's the responsibility of Adwords to vet ads.
Here's a list of what isn't okay for ads to display while using Adwords.
Report incriminating ads here
Of course don't get me wrong I agree with you a hundred percent because whenever i browse youtube on mobile the only ads i get are "Here's generic person who became a millionaire overnight by doing e-commerce or stocktrading" or "just click here for free v bucks FortniteVBUCKSFREE.exe". I suppose it isn't a shocker that youtube isn't the only thing google has automated completely.
