• THQNordic hosts AMA...on 8ch?

It was an alternative format to 4chan in that you could make your own boards, and gained traction from an exodus when it was brought up while moot started banning discussion of certain topics such as GG. IIRC his gf was the daughter of someone high in the Washington post or gawker at the time. The guy running it was pretty cool but it’s been years since I’ve looked at it, or even 4ch, but I remember liking it more.
For myself, 8chan is what 4chan used to be. It's a very vile and delinquent place, but that's kinda the charm of it. You go there to escape any form of overt censorship and it rewards you with a rather natural environment. Like I can goto /k/ and learn how to make all sorts of nasty shit, and then in another thread, I can be talking about what type of whiskey is good to drink on Friday. It's relaxing.
No it wouldn’t, there’d just be more people calling out the outrage because more people actually use 4chan to know what it’s really like.
There's a subreddit for AMAs, the bad subs are literally irrelevant to this. And yea reddit has issues don't tell me that's a worst option than 8chan lol. Doing an AMA on 8chan is like doing an AMA on the_donald. If you look at the questions they were asked, of fucking course some dudes asked about "the jews control the games industry", how hard is it to understand that for normal people this isn't the shit a brand should associate with.
RWS is fucking awesome I used to have talks with them because me and a friend were making tf2 models for a postal promo. Valve told us no, but they gave me postal 3 just to keep me from buying it cuz apparently the money goes to the Russians that made it happen and not them.
You can say the same about 4chan/8chan, the bad boards are literally irrelevant to this.
More so in 8chan since the site is designed like Reddit. There’s a /facepunch/ and I could make a /peterpancrunchypeanutbutter/ today
But the website obviously fosters awful people lile the antisemitic guys who were allowed to ask antisemitc questions in the AMA, when reddit doesn't. Stop pretending 8chan and reddit are equivalent that's just ridiculous lol yall can love 8chan all you want but dont pretend the average user there is equivalent to the average reddit user and that both websites have the same standards of community management. 8ch was literally created to be even shittier than 4chan.
the website obviously fosters awful people Why are you talking so much trash about Reddit? I thought it got a pass because it had /r/ama? 8ch was literally created to be even shittier than 4chan Prove it. you can’t because it isn’t true and really shows you don’t know anything about it’s history
Reddit is a big echochamber, the bad questions are gonna stay on the bottom thanks to the voting system, only the "You are my favorite developer! Why are you so good?" bootlicker questions gonna be answer. Also, don't make me laugh, Reddit has/had subs dedicated to racists, nazis, necrophilia, fat shaming, pedophilia, etc, they are as bad as any chan site.
Again users are the moderators of subs on both sites on a first come first serve. You can say admins on Reddit demolish the bad but then you’d have to explain why it’s okay that /r/the_donald, srs, etc are still standing and admin intervention has the same standard of banning for legality
Yeah, this is the part that is getting me. Not a single person was complaining about AMAs being done in Reddit even before Reddit cleaned up a lot of the illegal boards dedicated to paedophilia etc. And it still hosts boards for racists, alt-right fuckheads and worse.
Not really, loli and shota have never been permitted even when custom boards were a thing back in the distant past. Especially not now given that they're illegal in the UK and would get garry a visit from the party van.
8chan was created after a dream Hotwheels has while high. He saw an infinite symbol next to Chan, and the phrase “infinite Chans” stuck with him. So he created a version of 4chan where people could create their own Chans and boards. meanwhile moot was coming back from a silence and started banning discussion of certain topics he didn’t like. The big one I recall is removing all discussion of GG from /v/, and it came out he was dating the daughter of one of the people it criticized at the time. people started talking, where will we go if moot is compromised, and would rather censor ideas than pedophilia and gore? 7chan came up, but 8chan users took advantage of this opportunity to raise awareness of 8chan. Not only were topics free to discuss, but they could have their own boards and there’d be containment for other topics you’d prefer to avoid. i saw all this with my own eyes. It happened when I was in high school. I also remember 8ch taking a stance on CP and deleting and banning child porn boards. There were arguments in /b/ from pedos asking to be allowed to have a containment board or they’d spam /b/. They’d get banned. It was no child exploitation haven. 2ch, Japanese board 4ch was based on, even named 8ch as their official English partner. Ouch. since then there’s no exodus, moot gave 4chan up a few years ago iirc and most people that moved went back unless they liked the Reddit style setup.
Pretty much all of this I witnessed too. There definitely is a comparison to be had between Reddit and 8chan. One of the key problems 8ch has that works against it is how seemingly small and disorganised it's core administrators are. They do not have the manpower or time to sift through and remove / ban all the bad and illegal content and rely on reporters to bring stuff to their attention. There were certainly very bad parts of 8chan such as /baphomet/ which was dedicated to doxing and trolling and all sorts of nonsense, I remember during GG they would often go out and attack people on either side to stir up the pot and make things worse.
8ch is a website that everyone should be happy exists, there arent very many other places that let you just make a board and do whatever as long as you're not breaking the law. Having a place like that exist is extremely valuable because it ensures everyone always has somewhere to go to talk about what they want, ensuring a level of freedom of speech on the internet. It's not an easy thing to run especially when you have an army of people trying to erase you for it, 8ch's survived a huge number of attacks by ddos, payment blockade, and smearing/disinformation campaigns by idiots dumb enough to post CP themselves then report it as if it's the websites fault.
Reddit and it's dreaded upvotes are an easy punching bag, but subreddits have far less bleed through than chan boards, and when it comes to specific game communities, you might as well be saying vBulliten has a history.
This isn't even hurt feelings, just straight up malicious people looking to attack someone.
I wonder, are they still working on their secret totally-not-a-postal-sequel project?
Is funny when one sees yesterday the first tweet and dismishes it because it is just too ridiculous, and then next morning you read the whole shitshow that happened there. But hey, what's to be expected from 8chan but being part of the abyss?
Someone explain to me what THQN did wrong here? So much outrage over pretty much nothing.
probably resetera making such a huge deal about it
to be fair and im not sure if others have noticed this - But I tend to frequent 4chan's /v/ and recently have been sporadically checking out 8chan's /v/. I have to say, for the rap 8chan has they actually stay on topic, having meaningful video game threads, and generally shitpost much less from what I've seen. On 4chan's /v/ its all samey shitposting, feetposting, or porn to bait the mods.
Pretty much every complain I've heard in this thread about 8chan can also be applied to 4chan/ResetERA/NeoGAF.
They associated themselves with A Bad Website in any way, shape or form. If they did it on 4chan, the reaction would probably be very similar. Plus, this is just hearsay from an admittedly very social-justicey Discord I'm in, but apparently they responded to an image macro with a knight and the subtitles "Cease this faggotry" with "that guy might end up in our next medieval RPG". No clue how true it is or what the intention was, but responding to the image at all sounds like a bad idea.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDcKfLERJok looks like just a basic crusader
Reset Era would still be casting pearls before swine, tbh, thought maybe not quite the same marketing Darwin award.
Most of the rap is a direct result of flat out lying journalists during gamergate. 8ch's board system was used to host a GG discussion hub so journalists tried really hard to smear it by any means possible despite being a politically neutral website. Like, they host /leftypol/ which is only a few board slots below /pol/ and the site hasn't self destructed yet. I don't visit 8ch very often anymore but i did visit pretty frequently while that was going down so i'd consider myself a primary source on what the website is actually like. Contrary journalist reports, it was pretty well self policed, anyone doing anything sufficiently stupid to look like a false flag (ex. anything the journalists of the time were saying was a thing) was mercillessly shit on by other posters, every time. The majority of the site's reputation is basically just fallout from the game of telephone with journalists cross citing other lying journalists, in a very noisy room. On the thread itself, I don't really like the idea that devs should be beholden to a site's reputation they choose to do an AMA on, especially not when it's mostly bullshit. There's a degree of "well they should have seen that coming" and yeah they should have, but that's more like blaming the victim here.
if you need explicit proof that a chan board has bad people on it i suggest you reconsider what your definition of bad people includes
One of these things is not like the other
