• Even the horses will kill you in Australia

We're not saying the horses are evil, animals are beyond such definitions, we are saying they are a major ecological issue. They are a invasive species which destroy local ecosystems, their hard hooves ruin the already poor Australian soil. The time and money it costs to individually capture and relocate these horses to their native habit is unreasonable which means, like most inavise species we need to cull them before they destroy more of our native environment.
That is an act of unparalleled atrocity to do to a horse. Horses do not adjust well to sudden shifts of environment within the same country, let alone across entire continents. Have you ever transported a horse before? They do not like their environment being changed one bit. Even adjustments within their home field can cause them to be very off-kilter and furious for a long time. The addition of an extra person to a group of visitors can make horses very on-edge and horrified. Horses will genuinely go mental if you stand directly infront of them for long enough as they lack complete forward sight, and standing behind them equally makes them absolutely nuts. What the hell do you think moving them (the act of which itself would be incredibly stressful) to a different country would do? The best you could do is put them in some kind of preserve within Australia, but even that would be incredibly stressful for the horses. And for the record stress is enough to outright kill a horse on the spot. We're talking about animals that can, and will, succumb to mortal grief when they lose their lifelong bondmates.
There are apparently 400,000 wild horses in Australia and they breed prodigiously. This park in particular has around 6000. These are wild and as fast and powerful as, well, a wild horse. The effort and time needed to move them...somewhere... and keep them alive could surely be better used elsewhere, like perserving native animals that are actually endangered. Propaganda got brought up earlier but the science says these horses are bad for the country. The only reason why we haven't called them earlier is because there's a famous poem about them.
Horses are rad and hunting sucks, but no matter what my opinions are they're still in a habitat that they ruin and can't just simply adapt to their presence, on top of also being in areas populated by humans and harassing them. You could maybe keep people safe by closing down the park, but it's not like that's a universal solution, and you'd still have them ruining the enviorment.
Why aren't brumbies being culled? They're destroying the environment aren't they? They gots to go
As I said, every time someone mentions a cull, a million people who never grew out of their childhood phase of wanting a pony start acting like idiots and putting feral animals before our native wildlife.
The solution is to cull the horses, it's really that simple.
Ethics isn't as simple as murder is "bad because it is inherently so". People generally do not enjoy doing these culls. They need to be dispatched in a way that is humane and quick. The alternative is that they will damage the ecosystem, and likely cause other animals to starve. Is a horse's life worth more than several kangaroos of similar mass? Is the horse entitled to the plant biomass that the kangaroos would otherwise eat? Is a feral cat's life worth more than that of the hundreds of birds it will kill in its lifetime? What about rats, other pests? Should we not cull rats introduced to island ecosystems and let them destroy entire species? We have a responsibility to restore the natural balance that existed before we arrived.
Hate? No one hates the fucking horses. It's just that there are tons of people like you who believe emotions override the science of the situation. It's pretty simple - Keep the horse population unchecked and there will be a balance in the ecosystem. Said ecosystem will begin to deteriorate and other life will die - including the horses. You know why? Because of the food chain. These horses are not native and if unchecked are going to do more harm than good. So, what do you or other people like you suggest? How do you plan on making sure the ecosystem is properly maintained? How do you do it in a way that doesn't bankrupt the country? Population control of animals isn't about hatred. Population control is about ecology and environmental capacity. Hunters don't hate deer when they hunt them. It is about population control and filling your freezer for the year. Just like people in Texas who hunt hogs don't hate them, they're just pests and damage millions of dollars worth of land every year. It's bad enough we got idiots in our gov't who don't care about environmental protection. I would hate to imagine how damaged the ecosystem would be with people like you in charge. Hate to break it to you, but animals are just that. They don't get the equal treatment card when it comes to humans. So for you to even try to compare it to the holocaust just shows how stupid you. I say the word stupid because you have people telling you perfectly valid things and you have access to information which can support their points. Yet, you continue to act ignorant of the situation/context and act stupid/ignorant. Hunters have done more for the protection and conservation of animals then people with your mindset have.
Fuck man wasting no time Godwin strikes again the fucken genius
Putting aside TripleJ05 I have always wondered why Australia doesn't have vigil anti hunters at this point. If I didn't fear the lengthy jail term and confiscation of my firearms I'd probably go and secretly hunt these horses.
Using big words and writing these nonsense word salads won't excuse you from the fact that you're literally getting emotionally invested in a purely scientific debate. These animals are an invasive pest. End of discussion. Look,I love horses as much as the next guy. I even have a horse in my home town that I ride. But we don't let these fucker free roam - horses should NEVER be allowed to free roam. Why is that? well for the same reason you dont put your car in 1st gear, drop a brick on the gas pedal, jump out of and watch the car free ride into the sunset. Yee haw Horses were put here by us, and it's up to us to make sure these huge ass powerfull beasts do not just move on the top of every food chain imaginable. They should only be allowed to free roam in certain parts of Asia, where they're from. This applies to every species on earth - for VERY obvious reasons
Any foreign introduced/invasive animal destroying natural habitats and native species should be destroyed regardless of how cute it is. Make it open season no limits all year round. Pay people to do it if it's really bad. https://youtu.be/DM8PtsQl-bU
At risk of sounding like a crazy vegan, I wonder how many people who are against culling the brumbies also eat meat every day. They should really re-evaluate their priorities.
they're nothing to write home about but not bad at all either.
"humans are beautiful, amazingly intelligent creatures capable of doing amazing things and not one of them should be culled. they're gentle, sweet and arguably the most important animals in australia" https://i.ytimg.com/vi/GIHpAAcrSDc/maxresdefault.jpg There's a massive difference between sweet domesticated horses and these feral park-wrecking fuckers that deliberately attack people. Shoot them dead.
Are you saying furries should be culled or nazis Or both? 🤔
Are these evil horsies edible?
definitely, and it'd be wasteful not to eat them
I’d eat a culled horse to save Australia
Yeah let's just watch tons of native species go extinct to save wild horses that are going to die of starvation in the next decade anyway. Brumbies have no cultural significance to Australia, and it's appalling that the corrupt government here have the audacity to call them more cultural than animals such as Kangaroo's, WHICH ARE LITERALLY ON OUR COAT OF ARMS... Unless you want to propose the idea of putting all the brumbies in a prison of some kind, which honestly sounds more inhumane than just culling them, then culling them is the "best" option. Obviously if there was someway we could avoid killing them and also avoid having them kill off tons of endangered species in Australia, that would be ideal, but that's just not realistic. Also, please keep in mind that the only reason they AREN'T being culled currently is because corrupt politicians are defending them to protect their funding from their supporters that make money off of baby brumbies. If you watched the video I posted previously, you will see that what they do to make a quick buck is a lot more inhumane than us just culling them. Unless you care to try explain how tying a horse to a tree while it gives birth and then taking its baby to make profit and just leaving it tied to the tree to starve is more humane than just culling them?
The problem with eating culled horses is the difficulty in processing them. They're found in remote and difficult terrain, making bringing in a truck to move them difficult.
Nature is creation and destruction. Humans are a force of nature. If we need to knock those horses down a notch for our benefit, we will.
That was strangely philosophical, but okay. It’s not even for our benefit. Australia’s ecosystem is isolated and unique, and is especially vulnerable to invasive species. Culling these wild horses is primarily in the interest of maintaining the environment.
Turn them into hamburgers
On a side note , I've seen horse sausage being sold here, its ok , kind of tastes like wild hog.
The horses should probably be culled for the sake of other species in Australia but Progenitor is right, you're getting mad at an animal for acting like an animal. Like what the fuck did you want the horse to do in that situation?
