Denuvo reportedly cutting DMC5 framerates by up to 25%

which places? maybe I haven't reached them yet, as multiplayer games suck the life out of me, but haven't had any problems yet with either of the games, despite running dmc5 maxed out and RE2 near it.
I do wonder if Denuvo is why FFXV runs like complete ass. That game runs way worse than it has any right to
did you try dx11? the average and 1% low performance between dx11 and dx12 is significant
Nah. That's entirely on the Devs implementing Denuvo. Denuvo provides a tool for developers, if the developers misuse it that's on them. It's not hard to profile your shit and find suitable routines to use for protection.
I can get why they might think filesystem routines are safe to encrypt, they're vital to the game and shouldn't be massively important during gameplay. But that's a dumb assumption if they aren't then testing it.
This would be like blaming Microsoft for nVidia making a driver that BSoDs the OS whenever you start a 3D application.
Also, if you're wondering, the game is fucking phenomenal
It happened as soon as I got to the second chapter and got continually worse as time went on.
Runs fine enough for me on a GTX 970 and Ryzen 1700 after tweaking some settings (I can get 1080p 60 FPS), but it is a sort of demanding port if you want to get the most out of it. If you haven't already, turn off all those NVIDIA specific settings, even if you have an NVIDIA GPU. Especially turn off the one for foliage, as that just tanks performance for really not much visual gain.
On to the topic at hand though, no. Denuvo is not the reason why FFXV is demanding. It does result in slightly longer load times though.
And that's usually the general case with Denuvo. If the implementation isn't botched (like it might be with DMC5, we don't know), performance is generally not effected unless you're running the game on a very old CPU. Load times may increase a bit, but not enough to be a burden (and you especially won't really notice it on an SSD).
Have there been cases of Denuvo negatively affecting performance? To my knowledge, there's only one game I know of so far, and that's Tekken 7. Katsuhiro Harada, the game's director, straight up said that Denuvo was the reason why the framerate would drop during certain moves. It was later fixed, so it could've been an issue with their implementation, or with that current version of Denuvo.
We could be seeing the same thing here. Capcom could've totally botched part of Denuvo's implementation in DMC5, and they very well could be working on a fix for it as we speak. If this ends up being the case, then it reiterates that the problem is not Denuvo itself, but rather, how developers implement it. Like how developers implementing a graphical feature to their game in a non optimal way can result in more performance loss than necessary (going back to those NVIDIA effects mentioned previously as an example).
I'm not trying to defend Denuvo here as I vastly prefer not having DRM in my games at all, I'm just saying pointing fingers at all this being down to Denuvo and only Denuvo is foolishly omitting the many other factors that could play into this. Latching onto either side of this argument without conclusive evidence is foolish.
ah don't think I got there yet
Second chapter meaning the part immediately after the prologue. I'm sure you've gotten that far.
Dmc or re?
I stopped RE right after you reach the main hall coming from the dog pound and the room with the guy that got torn appart, with Mr.X chasing you.
Dmc currently right after the fight vs the knights from 4
Yeah I'm going to stop checking/responding to this topic if people are just going to post spoilers
Oh shit, sorry, I thought I was waaay behind everyone seeing how I only played a couple of hours and then sort of never went in again.
speaking of Denuvo and increased load times, Anthem uses Denuvo for some goddamn reason. That explains some things
I think that you can blame 100% to that to Bioware/EA fucked up development of the game, Denuvo is probably the least of the problems.
