Soooo, when does society plan on ending this phase of anti-intellectualism? We aren't going to just allow stupid people to not vaccinate their kids to protect them from deadly and totally preventable diseases forever, right?
Paranoid enough to think you're outsmarting the lizard men at the hospital but not enough to maybe apply the same thinking to a fucking facebook group
Yeah we don't want to start sterilizing people as a nation
Not necessarily. Catholicism doesn't necessarily take books like Genesis literally, unlike American Protestantism. Among Catholics the creation story is seen as more of a parable. So the Church's official position is to accept the prevailing scientific paradigm of evolution, to the best of my understanding.
You know just for the sake of argument here even IF vaccines caused autism how is that in any way worse than any of the debilitating horrific diseases they stop? "Nearly a million in medication to keep your kid alive fighting this vintage ass sickness that nobodies had in decades, but hey at least he's not autistic." Is that the logic here? What the fuck.
Yeah, Catholicism is actually a really interesting example because the Church actively accepts things like evolution, climate change, birth control, etc. However, I'm arguing on a more fundamental level -- there is no proof of God. I'm not saying this to say "God doesn't exist". Christians themselves readily accept that there is no empirical evidence for God's existence, and tout their faith. Teaching people that they need to have faith and believe in something that nobody can prove necessarily teaches people to shun the scientific mindset. The two modes of thinking are mutually incompatible in my view.
It pains me to read these articles about measles and tetanus, which should have been eradicated long ago, reappearing in my home state because of moronic, superstitious parents who evidently never took a high school biology class. UNBELIEVABLE. This just makes me fear for my friends and family back home.
Here's a piece I think you'll enjoy: Ash'ariyya and Mu'tazila As we don't know if there is a god or not its more of a personal preference whether or not you want to idolize a personification of "good" but in the case of those that want to believe in a higher gradient it's not a leap to say god created the mechanism that created the world.
I wouldn't be surprised if a good portion of anti-vax propaganda on social media is being purposefully spread by foreign governments.
I'll say it time and time again, anti-vaxx is all about ego. It's about being on the cutting edge of what's different, being better than everyone else. Same with flat earth- does anyone have that video of that test proving the earth has curvature then they proceed to immediately shove it under the rug? I think it's also to give people the illusion of control.
I think a lot of it has to do with a complete lack of understanding of what these diseases are, how they work and what they do. Couple that with a massive ego that refuses to be wrong, a paranoid mindset and a general ignorance of science and medicine and you have the recipe for the anti-vaxxer movement. A lot of these people believe that we've made it this far and things are going okay, so we don't need the vaccines (despite the fact that they're what helped get us here) which have all of these made up risks which they believe because it comes from people like them, so it's more relatable than medical literature or any of that hoity toity science nonsense. It's incredibly frustrating. I'm fine with being a skeptic, I would even consider it to be a good thing to scrutinize just about everything, but when you treat a over a century of medical advancements with documented and peer reviewed evidence for its effectiveness with more scrutiny than a Facebook group and some shoddy, heavily biased websites then there really isn't a whole lot anyone can do to beat some sense into you because all the evidence comes from the people they're too paranoid to trust.
The other day someone posted something on FB about however many vaccines are given a baby, as if that was a bad thing. I wanted to find it again, but I can't remember who it was, and upon that, I found several facebook pages arguing against vaccination. These fucking cunts are gonna be the death of us.

Offtopic but thanks for making me binge about 2 hours of House videos
I was raised catholic and I can confirm. My very catholic father who always goes to church every sunday is a microbiologist and he beleives in evolution and science and all that good stuff
Not true. Pope John Paul II has written how evolution is a scientific and universal fact, and having been raised Catholic, I've known several priests who have basically said that the bible is not a scientific text book and it should not be read as such. Hell, a Catholic priest was one of the first to propose that the universe was expanding. Now of course, there are also probably plenty of examples to the contrary, but to flat out say that religion "necessitates shunning the scientific method" is pretty ignorant.
idk why you just ignored my followup post touching on the Catholic church:
Doctors should be absolutely be allowed to do this. It won't convince everyone, but if it even saves one life, I would consider it a success.
If anything, I thought it was more the Evangelists who were usually triggered by widely accepted facts like that?
Russia's already on board.
My bad, I overlooked it.
The other day I had a conversation about the whole antivax situation with a woman at work. She was supportive of the idea that they possibly cause autism. I asked her even if that was the case (which it's not, obv), would she rather her kids be dead or autistic? She actually stopped to think about it. I absolutely do not understand these people.
But they're part of the global conspiracy to.... fucking do something. Nobody knows what it is, but by god it must be bad.
