• Halo coming to the PC after nearly 12 years with the Master Chief Collection

Chris Schlerf worked on Rise of Iron and immediately left Bungie for BioWare, and worked on Mass Effect Andromeda. Guy can't catch a break, it seems. Infinite's going to be... interesting story-wise. Currently, the most accurate image of what the plot will be is that it's going to be a total rehash of Halo CE but with narrative choices. The current narrative director is Paul Crocker, who was one of the main writers for Arkham Asylum and City.
I have literally no idea what Infinity even could be about
I keep coming back to this thread with the hope of finding some info on a price or release date lmao
The terminals were written by Frankie, separate of a lot of the other writing going on for Halo 3. One could argue that the original intent of the Forerunners was that they were to be human.
There's a few ideas. The canon is in shambles at this point from Bungie wanting out of Halo so desperately that Halo 3's ending was a patch job on their own lore, and 343's additions to the franchise being at times reasonable (like the formation of the Storm Covenant) and at other times out of left field, and always explained in the worst possible way so that casual fans get the wrong impression while lore fans bicker for months about it. The Covenant's been 'defeated' twice now, and it's virtually guaranteed another splinter faction like the Servants of the Abiding Truth will just take their place in Infinite. Zeta Halo itself is... well, it's got a lot going for it. It's been home to a UNSC research base for about 6 years now in-canon, and was also home to a significant population of freshly-devolved Humans for a while before the Array fired. It's the last remainder of the original, larger Halo Array to boot before the Primordial Gravemind destroyed the rest of them, along with the original Ark. Think I just demonstrated how bad things got in terms of pointless, out of left field additions. There's a fan theory from a few years back that the Didact was going to use the Composer Forge to modify the Halo Array, where instead of releasing a blast of neutrinos to wipe out all life, if the firing mechanism on each Halo was modified with a or multiple Composers, the entire galaxy could be Composed, rendering the Flood permanently starved in the Milky Way at the cost of turning everyone into mindless slaves. Since that was one of Cortana's threats in Halo 5, it's the best possible guess at this point. Alternatively, the plot might not revolve around Cortana doing something with the Halo Array, but rather the UNSC. Since the Created were each reborn into the Domain (Precursor space internet, and affected by the Halo rings) by Cortana, if it was nuked again it'd be an immediate and conclusive end to this plot arc, and if not it would shatter their hold on all Forerunner tech. But there's one big issue with these theories, namely that Cortana has access to more than a few thousand Guardians, a single one of which would be enough to obliterate any kind of ground offensive on a Halo with a gravity pulse alone, assuming the far-easier route of EMPing everything couldn't be done without delaying the Halo's ability to fire.
The teaser showed Chief with an AI Chip with an AI in it.
Theres a AI buried on that particular halo called 'Mendicant Bias' I'm betting thats the AI chief teams up with.
Oh? Hopefully they mention a release date... I don't want to wait until E3
According to Marty O'Donnell, the original draft of Halo 2 was supposed to include most of the major plot points of Halo 3, except the Ark was an object on Earth exclusively. Chief and the Dervish (Arbiter's original name before MS Worldwide Ops forced Bungie to change it) were supposed to have a final showdown with Truth at the Ark, and that was the end of it. Halo 2 was supposed to be the last Halo game by Bungie. If H2 had been completed according to plan, they would've gone back to making games of all genres, I believe Myth III was in development under the codename "Pheonix"
Mendicant Bias was on Installation 08 when it was destroyed.
some guy that guessed/leaked the announcement has also said the reach release would be soon after SXSW, but im not holding my breath
Take Two kept the rights to the Myth franchise. Myth III came out in 2001. What we know as Destiny had its origins all the way back into the development of Halo 2. Jason Jones was focused on it until Halo 2 development devolved into a total mess, he then took the reigns and brought everything together.
Oh, they way I heard it Jones was on Phoenix.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/228931/e9330b22-aa87-4847-a565-f6f326e04aa5/image.png It's not just inconsistent, it's active fucking regression at a technical level.
Reach's armor will always be my favorite style, it looks purposeful, customizable, and looks like it'll try to keep you alive against all odds even if your shields fail you.
To be at least slightly, contextually fair, one's a gritty volunteer super-soldier about to die horribly in the genocide of a planet, while the other is a volunteer super-soldier essentially running around in the equivalent of a virtual killing simulation that might as well be future sports. The 343 art designers are pretty terrible in many ways besides a couple exceptions (mainly natural environments for me), but the super tacky custom armor that's multiplayer-only at least makes sense because they're basically roided up football players with guns. Notably, the actual in-game SPARTAN-IVs are still "meh" but they're not garish colors for standing out and they're not indescribably turbo tacky in armor pieces either at least.
Bungie was considering it originally, but they changed their minds between 2 and 3. Frankie may have been in charge of the terminals but I highly doubt that he had no oversight; he wasn't the narrative lead at Bungie, after all.
...that's not an art style change for how Spartans actually look, that's cherry-picking. Multiplayer armour is distinct from armour you'll see in the campaign three ways: different shaders, brighter colors and luminescence applied that doesn't affect the game world. It's literally designed to stick out like a sore thumb for gameplay reasons so you'll always notice other players. Compare it to the campaign (Halo 4 comparison thrown in as well, because the same thing happened there with Mark VI GEN2) and you'll see what I mean: http://assets.vg247.com/current//2015/07/halo_5_guardians_1_s.jpg https://i.redd.it/5nzulk665u311.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/242420/f07d2412-6186-41ce-b466-783010f9a4c5/image.png https://oyster.ignimgs.com/mediawiki/apis.ign.com/halo-4/6/67/Mark_VI_Armor_Set.png?width=1920 Excluding that last image, this is what Spartans look like in 343's original art style. https://i.imgur.com/OPQUPhs.jpg This is what Halo 5's multiplayer armour actually looks like when used in-game and not in a render. There are still cases where it looks shite thanks to the plastic shader and luminescence, but this is generally what you'll see. It's designed with visibility in mind so you can see who you're shooting at in multiplayer, it's not a representation of how Halo's armour is supposed to look if we exclude the actual multiplayer armour designs themselves, which are usually pretty awful. Pretty much this. And it's not just the Terminals - it's the IRIS ARG too. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/242420/37240372-cb6c-414a-966b-7b4c57486c45/image.png It's worth mentioning that Jason Jones left on a sabbatical early on in Halo 3's development, and it took Marty O'Donnell stepping in and giving the writing 'team' a checklist of shit that needed to be done to cap off the trilogy that started the actual story development.

They left out her sass, too. She flipped off a fucking Sentinel in Ghosts of Onyx and doesn't get anything remotely like that in H5 when she could have at least called out Warden on his bullshit.
One thing that slightly bothers me with 343 armor is that the female player models are “👏DUMMY👏THICC👏“. What kind of armor would leave anyone vulnerable to getting shot in the ass? Compare this to Halo 2/3 and the player model doesn’t have a noticeable ass, wow, so sad. This is was a problem as far back as Reach.
Fotus is best/worst armor made by 343. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1977/8ab570d8-25a2-45c6-b010-33c67e529c0c/fotus_armor_halo_4_by_haloart117_d5wwj5v-350t.png If they have it in Infinite, I better be able to get kills with that horn
This kind of thing has always bothered the fuck out of me. Any time someone gets too hung up on sex appeal when designing or writing a character, the design and writing is going to suffer. I'm not saying sex appeal is inherently bad, or even that it can't be used effectively, there are plenty of games that have had sex appeal front and centre across many characters, and it still fits with the general tone and aesthetic of the game. But when someone starts shoehorning thicc booties into power armour designs it's just going to look fucking ridiculous to anyone who isn't a horny teenager. I'm reminded of that Shadow Of Mordor game where the devs decided Shelob - the fucking horrifying giant spider monster- was going to appear as a generic fantasy sultry dark lady for the majority of her screen time for no real reason. I don't know about anyone else, but I would have found the plot of that character much more interesting if I were actually working closely with a hyper intelligent spider-queen monstrosity as opposed to a knock off Morrigan from dragon age.
i wish there was a fotus only assassination where you stabbed someone through the chest with the horn
I'm the kind of person who (see my name/avatar/bg) doesn't mind sex appeal characters, provided they're... you know, unabashed and at least honest. I don't think they're positive in the least, but I know they're gonna happen. HOWEVER changing Kelly like that is an insult. She was a very positive representation previously.
IMO Spartans shoukd not have curves because the armor has a gel layer that adjusts itself to the body of the user, making every spartan identical, as in the Fall of Reach cover. https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1347842423l/136179.jpg Additionally, all of that extra equipment they have (like range finders or whatever those are for Linda, for instance) is all unnecessary because the Mjolnir armor has all of those features already. I can understand why they did it (to give Blue team individuality for gameplay purposes) but lore wise it was massively unnecessary. Speaking of Linda's rangefinders, those are an insult to her skill as a marksman. She would never need them in an actual fight, she was just that good.
Don't forget Nicole 458, the cameo spartan II from big tiddy fighting game dead or alive 4 being near indistinguishable from master chief. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1966/3dcc791e-e561-4617-95ce-ccf4fbf3f339/image.png
News from the stream: Insider signups up on PC (Steam) https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/halo-insider/signup/profile Insider Tests starting sooner then we thought. Just waiting on signups to begin. Crossplay is being considered but they want to get the PC release out first. Store and Steam can both play together.
I hope I'll have a chance to get picked, especially since I already own MCC on Xbone, but I feel there's going to be such a ridiculous high number of people signing up that I'll have no chance.
