Reuters: Streamer Ninja paid $1m by EA to play and promote Apex Legends

I'm reminded of when I was a child telling anybody who would listen that games are the next big thing, that they should be taken seriously, that they're a form of entertainment possibly more important than film or TV.
15 years later and they are, but they've also got all of the problems and the absurdity that Hollywood has, such as haircuts like this guy being paid more than any member of the team who designed this game to simply play it.
I don't know how to feel.
fucking 200 iq even in accidents
hope he's alright
I never understood this in threads about bitcoin, like what would you even do with that much of money? Being wealthy would be nice, but being rich doesn’t help you do anything that would make you happy in the long run.
He played with his broken arm and was still better than Ninja.
Hahaha I just watched a couple clips.

I don't see why this is such a big deal? Athletes get paid multi millions to play fewer games along a much longer time period. The only thing is i wish they'd have picked someone less insufferable.
Ninja is just over-rated, boring, and lacking personality. I don't think he's really all that annoying, just isn't entertaining to watch.
Happiness increases with income until a certain point, you shouldn’t underestimate how much “pay problems away” helps your mental well-being. And I mean, I’d like to travel more? I’d like to buy some new computer parts, and some nice furniture for my apartment. Not having money to go places and do stuff can definitely put a damper on your life.
And there's that problem with the absurdly inequal pooling of money. Most have to struggle to get by, some get to that point that they can pay many of their problems away and then there are those that get so much money that one can't realistically even spend it all.
money does bring happiness by making your life easy as fuck
imagine not having to work past 30 or 40, imagine paying for anything and everything you want, going on vacations, paying to make sure your aging parents are in good health and worry free, kids can cost around half a million dollars to raise from birth to adult
Money removes negative shit associated with not having money.
There's still a lot of negative shit to life that money can't change.
thats pretty obvious, but that doesn't mean anything I said was wrong. sure, if you have some deep seated mental issues, obviously money won't do shit. but you can't really think of much that a million or several hundred million bucks won't solve when it comes to your personal happiness or wellbeing.
It might solve my current problems but I don't know if it would keep me happy.
Do you not know what an investment is or what savings are or what
Money and financial security doesn't make you happy, it just lets you choose your misery.
Not worry about any kind of bills to pay, which is like 99% of my worries
The extra money enough to buy a cool car would be nice aswell. Nothing like a lambo or some crazy shit like that, just a nice new car.
Lol this is so untrue it hurts just to read.
I'd at least try to stream Fallout 76 for that kinda moolah. PETE HINES HIT ME UP
I was with you until you said "it lets you choose your misery", that's a really dumb take
When you get into a near fatal car crash, it lets you not suffer the consequences of medical debt and lawyer fees that would otherwise crush someone who doesn't have money
when you have worked your body into a sore and can't work anymore, having the money to safely retire without having to worry about your grandkids not going to college
the "choice" isn't a "choice", it's an "option" to live a life without being a wage-slave and without things associated with going into debt or working a body-breaking-job past age 80
What kind of bills do you guys have for you to need a million dollars? That was obviously my point; that being wealthy can make you happy, but being downright rich doesn’t help you get anything that’ll make you further happy overall.
Ninja is literally his name.
I don't have an issue with a streamer being paid $1 million to promote a game. I really don't.
My issue, however, is with transparency. I watch a ton of YouTubers who say, upfront, in their videos that they were given a review unit or a free review copy or whatever, and then proceed to play the game or review the product. That's totally fine. They spoke about it upfront and laid it clear. I know I can trust them because they were being transparent about the process.
The review is unclear, but was Ninja saying "I'm being paid to play this game," as the first thing he said? The article makes it unclear. But I would have a problem if he didn't.
That level of transparency and trust is important to me as a consumer.
I'm not gonna say it wasn't smart business but I like watching people who are upfront and honest about their business and I'm more likely to listen to, say, LGR or RTGame, who always disclose their shenanigans, than to someone who hid it from me.
That's fair and i'm of a similar mindset. It reminds me of the GameTheory debacle a little while ago where MatPat wasn't giving proper dues in his descriptions and being generally misleading then tried to pawn it off on his employees? Underlings? When he got called out. Transparency is key, a small 10 second blurb disclosing your connection to a thing makes all the difference.
What is this money doesn't make you happy shit lmao.
People burn up 5/7 days a week to earn it, enjoy activities that spend it, gleefully retire early if they get enough of it, and are blocked from finishing their bucket list if they don't get enough of it.
All of you would flip your shit if you won this kind of money in a lottery, saying it doesn't make you happier is extreme cope.
Yes depressed rich people exist but going bankrupt would make that a fuckload worse.
