On the one hand, you have people on The_Donald saying stuff like ("This shooter was an asshole!," "Fuck that guy!," etc. etc.) on the other hand, you have the same people applauding Fraser Anning

Do they not understand how these same views are the views that motivated the shooter? I dont get it. How can they agree with everything the shooter stands for but ultimately conclude hes bad? Is it just cognitive dissonance? Are we really that close to generalized right-wing radicalization? just tired. this event makes me tired
Pretty sure the daily mail outright posted a link to his full manifesto too.
Man, the right wing is genuinely just pure fucking cancer.
Those comments remind me why they decided to stop showing r/The_Donald posts on the main page of reddit

Masterful wordplay from the man as per usual.
On one of our largest news sites the front page was a face of PewDiePie and the killer...
so fucking sad...
PewDiePie is like the only person associated with this that has come out straight saying the guy was horrific whereas people like Cadence Owens and Laura Southern are just laughing it off while they most definitely helped radicalize the guy.
I feel so sick, not only from the attack itself, but the way that it's been handled by the media.
They're doing exactly what he wanted. Exactly what's going to cause more of these fuckheads to commit such atrocious acts.
Sky News coverage was literally doing a play by play of the video, stopping just short of the actual shooting. The terrorists own video, broadcast for the world. They then go on to show someone explaining and analysing all the writings on the weapons and the manifesto. Why? Nobody would know about this stupid shit, nobody needs to know about this stupid shit. All this bullshit about crusades and previous shooters, it's what he wanted the narrative to be about, and that's what it is now. You're not going to ignore a story like this, sure, but if you really must, why not host a discussion on radicalisation and how we need to stop it? Don't give terrorists a platform, that's exactly what they fucking want.
That tweet above about the Sun showing a gif of the terrorist attack on the homepage with ads all over it. A video from a shooting, a terrorist attack on innocent people is now being used by the tabloid scum of this country to gain ad revenue? Where are the consequences for that? The Daily Mail is literally providing a download link for this piece of shit's 'manifesto'! Why aren't they being made to forcibly remove this shit?
I expect to see charges for inciting terrorism, but my experience with the 'journalism' in this country doesn't have me holding my breath.
I mean, I don't see anything particularly wrong with this wording. Is there something I'm missing?
There isn't particularly. It put me in mind of a Christmas greeting, but can't fault it technically.
The God bless, rubbed me the wrong way
By linking himself with pewdiepie at the start he made sure we'd talk about him for years he's attached to the channel now.
This is making me depressed and it's going to stay around for a long time.
I think people forget he has the largest youtube channel on the website despite just being one name.
People might not have the same reaction if the guy was yelling "Play fortnite" or whatever. It's just too popular/big to seriously be expected to be associated with some random guy yelling the name, it only works on people who don't have prior associations to the thing. Despite being the largest youtube channel there are still lots of people who *don't* have any strong associations to the name pewdiepie. There is a basic well known aspect of psychology called blocking, once there is a strong association with say, the word pewdiepie and his content, people who hear "pewdiepie is alt right" know it's ridiculous because they already have a strong association elsewhere. People who don't have prior associations can immediately get a strong association with terrorism, the alt right, nazis etc, then all other learning about what his actual identity is is blocked because of this strong association. Most of the news sites who try to smear pewdiepie and similar take advantage of this aspect to try to associate him with nazis to people who don't know better, then new information gets blocked. You can see it happening realtime in this thread for a few people.
It's a similar situation with sites like 8ch. In the past, people who didnt have any prior associations or context have their first association on fox news about how the hacker 4chan did something, so you get all these old people who don't understand how a website works calling to put 4chan in prison. There have been *many* similar situations with other websites, facebook has had issues with murders being streamed or posted, here is an example of a heavily right website associating facebook with these events in a typical old-right leaning anti-tech style. It's the same basic story repeating itself over for everyone, they are very basic human problems of learning. I don't think 8ch is responsible for someone posting this shit to their website more than facebook is or 4chan was the last time it happened there, or every time murder gets posted on liveleak. There is going to be a wave of people trying to take advantage of the situation though, it *always* happens because the people who do it believe that they know the way to stop more tragedy so taking advantage is justified.
That moron politician a few pages back with the "but islam does the same and this is just a reaction" thinks he's right because he's heard stories of how muslims have committed mass murder and thrown the corpses of innocent christians in pits. He doesn't realize that it's the same mindset perpetuating the cycle of violence, that this shit where you just associate Islam with violence and demand they be removed from your society to save it, but then that justifies violence against Muslims, exactly like in this mass shooting, and oh hey your society is worse again, but the key is that he thinks he is rightous because he is saving society from a hyper radical minority. That's a really concise version of how to escalate these conflicts indefinitely if that is your goal, to get a guide on stopping it you won't find anything concise though. Expanding education to teach people to understand these conflicts from a birds eye perspective is probably a decent start. It's just a joke to come here and see people doing a super tame baby version of that where now 8ch needs to be removed from society. Maybe in 40 years those posters will be politician age and tend more towards the hyper-insensitive politician quoted here and be pushing their "war of ideas" in more and more extreme ways.
I thought it was accepted the killer's manifesto is just a huge shitpost. Why are we taking anything he says seriously?
Not really sure its fair to place so much blame on any speaker with a large audience who criticises Islam, it's a religion that's fair game to criticise.
Of course it depends on the criticism. I don't know anything about Shapiro, but from what I heard from the Peterson and Harris their opinions on Islam and it's followers is nuanced and doesn't simply amount to 'Muslims Bad'.
Prior to Columbine, Eric Harris posted a video explaining his motives for doing it, and made several references to Doom, a game at the time had boasted there were more copies of it than the largest operating system, Windows 95. After word got out about Eric allegedly making Doom WADs of the school, a media frenzy ensued, associating individuals who played the game was just a psychopath in waiting.
3 weeks from next Wednesday will mark the 20th anniversary of Columbine High School Massacre.
A Muslim Canadian MP created a motion (a non binding non law paper) asking the Canadian government to investigate racism and islamophobia and to get justin trudeau to say that racism and islamophobia are bad. JBP's video in response is a hysterical dual-loyalty-accusing bullshit-riddled video where he implies that muslims are taking over Canada by using the law because she specifically used the term islamophobia since the motion was a response to the Québec mosque shooting. He has serious beef against muslims.
For sam Harris you can read this, it's mostly about how much he sucks but there are large parts dedicated to his islamophobia.

Yet even in a group that included Christopher Hitchens and Richard
Dawkins, Sam Harris stood out for the aggressiveness of his attacks on
faith and the faithful.[1]
He attracted particular controversy for a series of remarks on Islam,
calling the Koran the only worse source for objective morality than the
Bible, declaring bluntly that “We are at war with Islam,”[2] and insisting
that someone who asks “What is the fucking point of having more Muslims
in your society?” is being “perfectly rational” since this “is not the
expression of xenophobia” but “the implication of statistics.”[3]
(The statistic in question being, according to Harris, that if “you
take a community of Muslims from Syria or Iraq or any other country on
Earth and place them in the heart of Europe, you are importing, by
definition, some percentage, however small, of radicalized people.”)
My contention with Sam Harris is he presumes that Islam itself is the main problem that is fundamentally driving terrorism, as if there is something inherent to the religion that turns people to terrorism. He says pretty much nothing about the political, military, and socioeconomic factors affecting the Arab world, which are all far, far more influential in radicalizing people. His entire career has been missing the forest for the trees.
I haven't read much about Peterson's views but I'd bet money they're also odious and along a similar vein as Harris's.
Out of curiosity I went to Trump's twitter page earlier today to see if he had anything to say and he had linked the breitbart website with literally no other text. I went to check an hour later and it was replaced by a the generic "warmest sympathies" tweet.
I really wish I took a screencap of it.
I remember when Trump went on a vicious rant about Muslims on twitter after that machete attack in Paris early in his presidency and how dangerous radical Islam is, tragically he can't seem to bring a fraction of that hate and focus on radical right wing terrorism. I wonder why.
Hey, I'm not. But some people do apparently. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Can we just put everyone who follows this horrible ideology on an island? Like maybe North Sentinel island?
Who would have thought of all news channels, The Project in AU is one of the only ones to handle it in a semi-decent manner.
Really just goes to show how fucked the state of journalism really is.
Nah the sentinelese don't deserve that
Nice to see people jumping on the tragedy to push their political agenda already. How the hell is Sam Harris a Fascist?
I'd rather not expose the islanders to biological disease.
(but at least the islanders are immune to their verbal disease)
It's too coherent, any time there's been any type of tragedy there's always an actually thought out response that is pretty evident he didn't write it. That's why you don't see anything wrong.
He's been critical of almost all religions. He's said silly exaggerated stuff in the past, but implying he fits in with the very pro-christian deus vult culture of /pol/ is disingenuous. Hell it was /pol/ who started the whole fedora atheist stuff in response to people like Sam Harris in the first place.
You mean the closet Nazi whose always shouted racist and bigoted comments and praises white supremacist youtube channels, that was mentioned by a psychopathic terrorist that killed dozens of people in cold blood?
Oh boy I sure can’t wait to hear about this terrorist’s entire life story being glorified on a 24/7 hourly news cycle which helps inspire other degenerates to carry out similar atrocities.
