But they literally don't if you buy through a different platform? It actually says that outright in the article that was posted.
I'm willing to bet most of those sales are from when people started panic-preordering Metro Exodus on Steam before it got taken off sale.
A developer choosing to make their anticipated game exclusive to an objectively worse store because they were given a large amount of money is one that quite evidently does not care about those players. I don't think their decision to negatively impact the people who want to play their game should just be accepted and supported by buying the game even when it's made available to another store. Doing so just tells sends the message of "It's ok, I'll still buy your game, keep doing that." - It's the same reason why buying games with microtransactions is a bad ide if you're against those, even if you don't buy those microtransactions yourself you're still supporting that decision.
Well i for one can wait.
But this makes sense, it's published by Microsoft
I'm also curious how much the numbers for Metro are factoring in Epic's "Guaranteed Sales" numbers where they'll pay for any copies under the guaranteed number.
No, read it, it says only for games that aren't exclusive to epic store.
it means nothing, this is just empty fluff.
Here's the list of recently revealed upcoming Epic Exclusives:

This is straight from the article that Noob posted.
This industry sucks.
This announcement coming right after the bullshit about the Epic Launcher snooping around in Steam files is painful.
This needs government intervention before it gets out of hand
I dislike Epic as much as the last guy, but I thought people hated Steam? Though I will admit Epic is worse, I'm not going to say "fuck you" to a company just because they got an exclusivity deal, especially when they (EPIC) are probably funding the hell out of these studios.
Still, will not give a single penny to Epic.
all the stores with all their own launchers and what not and now with the trend of epic having 12 month exclusives is more frustrating than the entire console war/exclusives for me.
I get that steam could do with some competition but there's also the frustration of having so many things to log into etc and generally just having everything in one place is more convinient personally.
Idk, on one hand I like the idea of multiple game stores, as it breaks up the monopoly that Steam has on the industry. On the other hand, Epic are absolutely horrible and I wouldn't want them anywhere near my wallet. At least Steam acts like it cares about the developers.
I'm nearly certain this is a call from Private Division, a subsidiary of 2K, which is itself a subsidiary of Take-Two. Maybe that "RDR2 Exclusive to Epic Store" shitpost isn't too far off the mark.
Ohhhh fuck off Epic, I was hyped for this game. I can't believe that they can do whatever they want thanks to Fortnite. Fortnite was a fucking mistake.
Jim Sterling's probably the most notable (if only notable) steam-hater I know of. Most people seem to be indifferent on it.
Hate to sound like I'm splitting hairs, but that's old news. The information here is from an official company speech today, not Tim Sweeney's tweet from a few days ago.

It's a different kind of hate. In case of Steam people hated lack of store moderation. In case of Epic people hate that it divides PC platform by making some games not available to purchase outside of their store.
"monopoly"

so the game i backed before epic game store exists is now on it exclusively?
why is this ok?
I have to ask. What are they doing that is illegal? Signing exclusivity deals happens constantly in every business imaginable. I don't care for it either but wanting government intervention is a bit much.
Fuck the fucking goddamn Epic store. I will never spend a dime on your storefront despite your desperate money hatting.
Thank god for the Halo announcement and it's seemingly strong Steam integration support. They're even running the beta tests through steam's UI.
During their talk, this is what they said (their store strategy):
"Fortnite + free game every 2 weeks + major exclusives" (in one of their slides)
"This proves that it's really about the games, not the store you sell it on."
"We're super stoked to see this result and one thing we can say for certain is Epic Games Store is sure to make many hundreds of millions of dollars for our development partners this year."
Ya all better believe it. They are not stopping anytime soon.
