I'd ultimately like a journalistic break down of this situation because it's complicated as fuck.
I don't think Tencent is a chinese government front, but I also don't trust them, what so ever.
Can't check ban history anymore, and even then, you'll need to use wayback machine to find some of them since they were deleted.
"The People's Daily published two articles criticising Tencent owned game King of Glory, due to its purportedly addictive nature among Chinese youth. Share prices for Tencent dropped by 5% on the days the articles were published" from the Tencent Wikipedia.
China being super slow with approving Tencent games after the 9-month game license freeze: Tencent, NetEase miss out again as Chinese government approves t.. (why aren't they giving Tencent preferable treatment, aren't they owned by the gov???)
Tencent struggling after the game ban. The company dropped 20%, in a few weeks it went from the biggest company in the world to out of top-20 thanks to the ban. Not really a thing you'd do to your own puppet company is it? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tencent-struggled-2018-150009899.html
So then, dispell that misinformation with your information?
If you're not going to actually, you know, simplify the situation, saying it's simple is about as useful as pissing in a sea of piss.
I'm willing to admit that I thought tencent was worse than it actually is after researching it. But I still don't think that means it's so fucking ludicrous to think they have some kind of hand in what Epic does business wise
Take it with a grain of salt but this is apparently some kind of a leaked image from epic website:

Well yeah, of course they have a hand in what Epic does. That's not inherently bad though. Only private companies can get away from this, but all public companies are subject to control by shareholders. That kind of the point of it.
I genuinely regret buying Metro, not only is the game just... okay , I had to use their awful store
You know I was even joking about this the other day. But I guess behind all humor is some sense of truth.
Considering death stranding is a first party Sony game, running on an engine made by a first party sony developer. I seriously doubt Death Stranding is coming to PC.
Well yeah of course they do have a hand in Epic, as they own 40% of it. But in the end the majority shareholder is Tim. Every major decision in that company needs his approval. It doesn't matter if Tencent thinks this or that, Tim has to be onboard for it to work.
Though it would be MS Store exclusive, heh
It's worse
But then again we did get some announcements of Sony exclusive games coming exclusive to the Epic store. And a lot of games exclusive to Sony tend to have a Steam release as well. So it's not to far out of the question.
Would it be too far into tinfoil hat territory to suggest part of the deal with Obsidian specifically is Sweeny cutting them a fatterc heck than usual, knowing their general lack of stability and financial forethought, in a deliberate move to further piss off the people already railing against him and the Store? Regardless, get fucked.
While we're at it, getfucked Dauntless. I was excitedto finally havesome unique competition with Monster Hunter but there's that right out the window next to the little faith i had left in one of the previously few companies i thought were decent in Obsidian.
So... not different from Quantic Dream at all. And yet we see their games on a PC.
Don't forget this from the launch trailer.

I hope it hurts their sales, and with it being a new IP there's a good chance it will.
Don't even joke about that. Cyberpunk is the last thing I got left to look forward to that hasn't been stolen by Epic.
except CDPR already said no, and DS is a Sony exclusive.
CDPR also has their own store, and no idea of a release date. Also those two specifically standout better than the other games. Maybe, but that's not super likely.
I'm not saying this is a good thing but the majority of the community really doesn't give a shit, at all.
I think I'll boycott any developer/publisher who drinks the Epic Games Kool Aid.
Epic are just being a bunch of cheeky cunts at this point. Games are being put on Steam and advertised as being on Steam, only for Epic to swoop in and bribe them to be on their platform instead.
I don't think its really matters the stake of shares China has in Tencent, their business is headquartered in China, and business has to bend to China's will or get shutdown.
I haven't spent much time about reading Chinease buisness. But being in the IT field, the rule goes that if you host in China, only host Chinease data in China as they can legally seize or probe ur virtual asshole at any moment because they want to. That's enough to make want to steer clear of any Chinease based buisness imo.
