Remedy’s Control joining list of Epic Games Store exclusives

I have one question to you guys who are constantly bringing up how China is involved in all this because of some apparent unconfirmed ties Tencent has to the Chinese government.
Do you use Discord?
If so, then stop using Discord as well as not using Epic. Tencent has investments in Discord, and Discord collects user data (like every other free communication service), so one could make the logical conclusion that your data has been being sold to China and its government for as long as you've been using Discord.
Same applies to every pretty much every AAA publisher, as Tencent has investments in them. Mostly because Tencent wants them to bring their games to Chinese markets, but let's assume it's because all the games collect your data and sell it to the Chinese government.
Do you see how ridiculous all this sounds? If you're gonna go full anti Tencent, then just don't even bother with anything in the entertainment medium and just use only Mumble, I guess.
I get the paranoia around Chinese companies, I really do, but let's actually find some evidence of Tencent doing this shit first instead of just pairing them up with the likes of Huawei (who actually does give their data to the Chinese government to the point where it concerns the US government) simply because they're Chinese. I would think if Tencent was in the same league as Huawei, the US government would also have something to say.
The way I see it, mentioning Epic = Chinese Gov Sockpuppet is almost a surefire way to make unconvinced people think you're just some internet conspiracy mob.
Yeah, there are a lot of things to criticize Epic Games and their crappy store with their anti-consumer crap. But if you use the "But the 40% is Chinise!!!!" stupid argument delegitimize anything that you can say.
Where are the stats that prove that the backlash to Epic's store isnt just a vocal minority?
I'm not saying I think exclusivity deals are a good thing nor have I even downloaded Epic's launcher, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of gamers, even PC gamers, aren't the informed enthusiast who's going to give a dusty fuck about what client they access their game from.
For most people it's probably just a different interface with the same price.
Because with a platform of 18 million users, only 4.5 million downloaded Subnautica and Slime Rancher. That is little over 9% total for either game; that's pathetic.
Are those really games that you'd expect to judge mainstream appeal on?
Subnautica and Slimer Rancher had people like Pewdiepie and Markiplier giving them a shitload of publicity. They have mainstream appeal.
Costs skyrocketed.
Everybody wants to make an AAA game, but while the technology advanced to allow for more realism, it hasn't gone cheap. Also due the market being saturated ( which the flux of shovelware, troll and achievement / card farm games have made worse the situation ), you have to throw more into marketing, so as you can imagine, for some teams / business the numbers doesn't come right.
The latest DRM system so at least you delay piracy for a bunch of days at worst, loot boxes / microtransactions in order to keep an small but constant flux of income, selling the data from the players...anything is "allowed" in order to survive. While the situation is dire for all the indies who want to live off by making games, for companies like Activision they only care about maximizing the profit, so if they can do everything to get more, they will ( to the point of firing whole teams once they are done / "they aren't essential to us" as seen multiple times ).
Epic is throwing money at anybody who listen to their siren calls because they know they need it, same as the players ends buying the product on their shop no matter how heated the situation goes in Internet because at the end, they will fall to the hype, buying it on release day ( or just seen everytime a boycott failed due people mass preordering that game ).
The sole thing we can do, if one doesn't want to cede and go with Epic, is to just wait until it is available in other places. Pirating the game is very dickish to do.
Better Valve wakes up and starts making attractive Steam because if not, they are going to be surpassed, as at the current rate Epic doesn't need to have all the feature that Steam has in order to win ( or adquire a very large market ).
In this thread, jobless children justify stealing because they're mad about using a different store.
Maybe you need to inform yourself instead to treat others of being children.
Do we really need to start yet another holy war arguing that stealing virtual goods which can be copied unlimited times is not the same as stealing physical goods which cannot be copied at all? (ignoring moral side of things)
Besides that calling other people "jobpless children" is not a productive way of talking to other people.
I actually bought Metro Exodus on Epic Store because I didn't feel like punishing devs for a choice they probably had no say in. I also really enjoyed the previous titles.
Through playing Metro Exodus I learned just how bare-bones Epic Store is.
Now that more games are removed from Steam (almost) last minute and only available on Epic Store I decided to also try to boycott this practice.
As much as I wouldn't mind Steam forced to react to it's competitors this is not the way.
I swear there is a comment like this in every thread "People who don't like thing are just kids that need to get a job". Maybe if you actually looked into what people are upset about you wouldn't be making dismissive comments like this to feel superior.
It's absolutely sensible to be upset at a loss of consumer choice.
Resorting to piracy and acting like it's morally justified is not.
Let's not talk about morals when we talk about a company that has spied everyone's Steam folders. I am not gonna pirate the game but if people does it blame Epic and his decisions, not the people that was lied about what platform their game is gonna be released like the Phoenix Point backers.

Genuinely sad I googled this and it doesn't exist.
People are literally making the argument that piracy is the only ethical choice. They're deluding themselves because they think they're entitled to play their favorite game on their favorite platform in their favorite way, all other market forces be damned.
"I will buy this long-awaited game in this comfortable and convenient trusty game store, where they've been advertising for quite a while. I know as an AAA game it will be kinda expensive, but I consider it worth it."
"Actually you won't, we're not releasing it there, we're instead going to this shady piss-stinking corner that tries to steal info, has a barely-functional store and gets in hot water every odd day. No recourse, btw. Only there."
"OH WELL thank god they did this shitty move and showed me the light! I thought I was going to spend $60 on steam but seems like I wasn't after all!"
Can you really call it an excuse not to pay when you were going to in the agreed-upon terms (sold on steam, or GOG or in more than one single store)? Illegality I can accept, because TECHNICALLY you had ONE way, as opposed to zero... But morally is a murkier one.
Where? Nobody said that the only ethical choice is pirating.
Maybe next time if he doesn't resort to call others "jobless children" he can start a real discussion and try to convince people that pirating doesn't help the situation. Now I can take him serious.
One could argue that piracy is the only ethical choice in this
situation, as supporting the epic store is supporting their chinese
majority shareholders, which supports the oppresion of religious and
political dessenters in China. It's supporting murder, essentially.
This is a post from the outer world's thread. I've seen plenty of similar posts in regards to the epic store.
I do only use mumble, and a self hosted matrix chat server. I haven't really bought a A.A.A game since deus ex human revolution. I am more then happy with not buying tencent games, I am not missing out. Stop accepting that your a product and take some responsibility for your data and your purchases.
People asking why the Epic Store is so hated when is "just another launched" has been repeated multiple times and I don't have any problem explain them why an anti-consumer store with a launcher that spies your personal files is bad for them without treating them like ignorants. There is no excuse to start an discussion with "jobless children" and expecting to take you seriously.
And I seriously can't understand why people need to defend companies like they are defenseless puppies, if people pirate your game, then take some responsability to fix yourself the problem. "Entitled gamers"? The same "Entitled gamers" that backed Phoenix Point? The same "entitled gamers" that can't buy the game because the Epic Store is not avaible in their region/platform? The same "entitled gamers" that were super happy about Obsidian and were going to buy the game on lauch day?
i fucking hate this shit so much
I know it's immoral. The thing is, when you get fucked over by only having the choice of playing on one Chinese backed store, you take the perceived convenience away or benefits to using Steam.
I am not entitled to play, I just don't wish to use the Epic store. This is a misunderstood take, else I would pirate games now.
I would buy the games on Steam a year later if the game isn't in the refund department of dog shit.
I don't think piracy is morally justified, but I do think it's a good way to show a company that you want their game, just not as they're currently offering it. Before steam got big piracy was a lot bigger than it is now, Epic's exclusivity deals possibly driving up piracy would just demonstrate consumer dissatisfaction.
I'm not going to pirate the game, there are far too many other games I'd rather play than bother with piracy, but I don't have any problem with others doing it.
Can we please stop using this dumb argument? There's ZERO proof of this. It's a ridiculous claim.
There's a big difference between pirating a game because you don't want to pay for it, and pirating a game because you don't want to pay a scummy third party for it.
I don't think anyone in this thread wants to play Outer Worlds or Control or Satisfactory or Metro Exodus without paying for them. They recognize these are good games made by talented developers and artists who deserve to be rewarded for their dedication and hard work.
The problem is, they don't want to support Epic's scummy practices or their publishers' scummy decisions.
If these developers had a way to buy the games directly through them, with no publisher or Epic Store in between, then I am certain that quite a few of the people in this thread would do it in a heartbeat. I know for a fact that if the Outer Worlds or Satisfactory devs had a direct line to pay them, even a fucking PayPal, I would happily throw them money for a job well done on their wonderful games.
Trying to collapse all piracy down to "people just don't want to pay for their games" is intellectually dishonest. For a lot of people, "people don't want to support Epic or scummy publishers" isn't a "flimsy excuse" - it is a legitimate moral point. To a lot of people, what Epic is doing - and what these publishers are agreeing to - is cancerous to the industry as a whole. And they rightly don't want to financially reward Epic or these publishers for their cancerous actions.
If piracy the only option? Of course not. You can always just not play the game.
But I think there is a very real argument that can be made that "I pirated your game because I want to buy it but not support the only parties I am forced to support" sends a more powerful message than "I'm just not going to play your game." It shows that these people want to play your game, but there are systems in play that they cannot abide by. Namely, Epic's and the publisher's decisions. It sends a message that maybe these developers should go with less-scummy publishers in the future.
Obviously this doesn't apply to all Epic exclusives, like for example Phoenix Point, where the devs themselves actively pursued a deal with Epic. In that case, I say give them a big-ass middle finger and just not play their game at all. The developers showed they don't give a fuck about the consumer, and so you should return that lack of respect in kind. But for other games where the decision was out of the developers' hands, like Metro, then the problem isn't with the developers, and they shouldn't be punished for it.
I pirated most of my games when I was a teenager before Steam; hell, I pirated fuckin' Half Life.
I literally have zero qualms, if you're going to fuck me, I'm going to fuck you. Drop this morality bullshit at the other side of the door and to be frank; you want a company to stop doing exclusive shit? Show that you've downloaded their game and cracked it. Show them that you're more than willing to steal their game rather than verify their fucking tactics. SHow them that they actually lost a sale and they'll start listening.
Fuck your morals; this shit is about wallets and rubbing it in their faces.
Or you could just buy the game through a different store
