This shit is so ethically dubious that I can't imagine it not getting banned. Especially after lootboxes have already become a hot issue.
Remember when Valve made games and Steam and nothing else
Then they flip the little switch that reads "input" to "output". YOU LOVE LOOTBOXES. YOU NEED THE RUSH YOU GET WHEN YOU OPEN ONE. YOU LOVE THE STEAM MARKET...
YOU ALWAYS REALLY WANTED A DOTA 2 THEMED CARD GAME
I can already envision Valve releasing a swarm of manhacks next E3 as revenge for the vocal reception of Artifact.
HL3 is taking forever because they want actually to implement the Manhack Arcade and make it work this time Slice your friends!
Everyone gets their own in-built Space Core, but instead of space, it's LOOTBOXES
I'll be sorely disappointed if we can't get Uncle Gubsy from lootboxes.
What if they analyze peoples brains and find out everyone just wants them to make fucking games again
Ironically, they spend all of their money on reading peoples minds, and have no money left.
In truth, proper implementation of ECG (as well as more invasive sci-fi crap) would be great for this - AFAIK the AI director in L4D just starts by littering junk randomly in the map, then deciding if it should send a horde or special your way more based on whether or not you had one thrown at you in a while or if you are near some kind of story moment. But I really think more will jump on this as a way to do shit like sell lootboxes FOR A SUPER SPECIAL DISCOUNT depending on the current "Buyability" rating of the consumer determined by factors such as excitement, exhaustion or inebriation rather then stuff that would improve a game in and of itself. Normally I don't have a problem with lootboxes (please don't make me go into this, I have before and it's not the discussion of the thread...) but I would have a problem with this cyberpunk crap Again, thank god that the technology just isn't here yet
How about analyzing brainwaves to tailor in-game storytelling? No? Right... that would’ve been the old Valve.
They wouldn't like my results, 'cause A: I barely game anymore anyway, B: I'm quite happy to keep playing the same games I've been playing for...gods, over a decade now(I still play HL2 and Gmod regularly enough), and C: I don't have any interest in loot boxes or whatever(God only knows how many I've let expire in my Steam inventory because I check that about as often as Valve releases Half Life games). At least until they get to a fucked up hellhole of a mind like mine and see nothing but a constant stream of furry porn, desires for the advertising industry itself to be banned at a federal level, and a whole library of congress' worth of mental notes that all read 'fuck me I don't have any money this week'...
I mean, they talked about that stuff too.
