It's a strategy you see a lot with startups. You undercut opponents or make willing losses for a few years to build up a consumer base or fan base. The company probably won't be running in the black for a while, but rapid growth like that can attract VCs and other more reasonable investors. Then you start using the business practices you actually want to use, and make money from the people you attracted whilst running a loss. Epic are doing something similar, though they probably don't need investors at this point. If they can force EGS to build a user base of repeat buyers, by forcing people to the platform with bullshit exclusivity, then they can eventually stop the exclusivity due to the sheer number of people who caved and became repeat buyers.
this isn't about the development of games its about the distribution which is one platform paying unfair amounts to publishers to kill other platforms and ultimately become the only distribution platform its patently anti consumer.
You could power a lightbulb with some of the facebook EGS shills. They really do try.
Didn't Epic just say they weren't going to pull a Metro Exodus again? Like of course they lie their asses off at their own press conferences in the face of these gamers and consumers.
uh, not sure about that, i pre-ordered the division 2 with the 20% discount the other day http://meharryp.xyz/s/upc_2019-03-30_14-46-19.png
I tried the same thing and it didn’t work. Luckily ubisoft was having a sale and the discounts stacked so I got another game for pennies
Epic exclusive is a pretty good method of making me pirate your game despite the fact that I can afford it and would otherwise have purchased it.
That’s surprising considering mine wouldn’t work at all.
The Ubisoft code thing doesn't work in the U.S. (Maybe Canada as well not sure)
