Disney CEO Bob Iger- "reject hate", "Hitler would have loved social media"

Disney CEO Bob Iger delivered a scalding rebuke of social media at a dinner at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, where he was honored with its 2019 Humanitarian Award.
“Hitler would have loved social media,” Iger said at Wednesday’s event, according to Variety. “It’s the most powerful marketing tool an extremist could ever hope for because by design social media reflects a narrow world view filtering out anything that challenges our beliefs while constantly validating our convictions and amplifying our deepest fears.”
Iger lambasted social media for creating an echo chamber that prevents people from being exposed to other perspectives.
“It creates a false sense that everyone shares the same opinion,” Iger said, according to Variety. “Social media allows evil to prey on troubled minds and lost souls and we all know that social news feeds can contain more fiction than fact, propagating vile ideology that has no place in a civil society that values human life.”
While Iger’s comments may have sounded like those of a politician’s, the CEO confirmed he is not planning to run for president despite the pleadings of former Disney Studios Chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg, Variety reported. Instead, Iger urged the audience to back 2020 candidates who “offer a plan for progress that works for all of us.”
“I want to hear a pitch that isn’t grounded in the contempt of others,” Iger said.
If Hitler were alive today, he would be a gamer.
if Hitler was alive today he'd be a very successful pundit and mein kempf would be a policy paper written by some right wing think tank
I think If he was an American he'd be a republican and possibly the current President of America
not that its the same but it seems a tad ironic to complain about walled gardens of content when Disney has been aggressively building their own walled garden of content
Yeah, but at least their content doesn't make people fucking Nazis.
Oh the supreme irony of an arch-corporatist complaining about people not valuing human life.
It's the "hello fellow humans" act
Thing is, I don't think Hitler had a sense of humor.
That's what makes the new brand of racists actually scary.
Adolf Hitler told bad jokes about Nazi friends
Fuck I like dark humor too
tbf I don't think their sense of humour is very good either, it typically amounts to "haha bigoted or deliberately insensitive thing", or is attack humour based on strawmen of the perceived opposition.
"Orange man bad" isn't gonna hold a candle to George Carlin.
learn something new. Still generally comes across as a very humorless fellow
It's not, but that's not the point. See their defense when they say something hyper-racist like "Gas the jews!" is to then backpeddle and say "No no, I mean it ironically haha funny joke!". As such they smokescreen their more 1488 rhetoric by pretending to just be meming.
Well, he was German.
Honestly Hitler probably would have just posted his paintings on social media for everyone to see.
If the Internet existed back then Hitler would have just gone on the Internet to bitch about not being accepted into art school, then go look at some jew memes on 8chan.
He'd post his paintings on Tumblr and call everyone a hater for pointing out the flaws.
His favourite victim was the Luftwaffe chief Herman Goering, who was notoriously fond of awarding himself medals and decorations.
According to the book by the last surviving member of his bunker, Hitler recounted how Mrs Goering found her husband waving a baton over his underwear in the bedroom and asked him what he was doing.
"He replied: "I am promoting my underpants to OVERpants"", Hitler then joked.
Hitler was said to be so proud of his joke that he had medals made from gold and silver paper for Goering to wear on his pyjamas.
That is actually hilarious
What if Hitler tried to become a comedian instead of an artist?
Would he be accepted into clown college?
Except he was Austrian
Yeah, that's true actually. I always forget he was Austrian, especially with the Anschluss confusing things.
Duhhhh,I'm pretty sure every dictator from the 20th century would love social media.
Which is why North Korea bans Twitter and Facebook.
I know Bob here is trying to dog whistle (??? It's not really dogwhistling if it's this overt though...) about Trump being comparable to Hitler but... no. Because I mean, I'm sure Hitler would have loved a bunch of people calling him out or (assuming he's not a political figure yet - even so he'd have to have a bit of tact) being a hair away from a banhammer.
The difference is, for the people inside, Disney's actually nice
They have their own walled garden social media services
You have to be born American to become President of The USA.
MONEYBOT900 EXPRESS: SAD FOR: HUMAN.
But he was Austrian.
