Well good news, you're not the only one to have come up with this. The President of the United States - noted as a very smart man - also suggested such via tweet.
As was pointed out on TV here, it's not the first time a large cathedral in France gets severely damaged, and some have come back and been rebuilt from worse. It's important to stay calm.
Tragic. Historical preservation is an interest of mine, so this is sad news.
Here's hoping we can at least rebuild what was lost, even if won't be the original.
What is the point of this post?
Thankfully it seems like nobody got hurt
You know what, you're right. Not the time.
Well-intentioned but dumb. At least he's not blaming people unnecessarily or something equally stupid.
So weird to see Trump acting so concerned with the fire. He made a tweet and a speech about it, but I imagined he didn't care about it at all and would have even said so, some dumb shit like "Notre-Dame is collapsing like the French government because of immigration, sad" or something like that.
just rake the ground lol
after a few words about how sad it is he immediately went off talking about how great he is and CBS cut him off lol
I can only imagine what would have happened to US-French relations if he had said something like that.
Knowing how fiercely protective the French are of their national pride, they'd probably call for the guillotine.
Who cares what Trump thinks or says
I care, his stupidity is amusing.
i'm not even religious, but knowing we lost both an amazing piece of architecture, its relics, statues and everything contained within, is hard to put into words. it's devastating, heartbreaking and a loss of history
Even if they rebuild it, it's still lost the magic really. Part of what makes it impressive is how long it's managed to stand and how much history it's seen.
Yeah I'm more concerned about the health effect tons of lead going up in smoke could have on inhabitants right now.
It's almost prophetic that a church built in the 1100s is burning on Holy Week. Hopefully the artifacts and texts were saved in full.
Firefighters have been doing their absolute best to evacuate artifacts but many are permanent fixtures within the church. Three artifacts linked to Christ (a part of the Crown of Thorns and two others im not sure of) were in the main spire when it burned and subsequently collapsed.
I never got to see it
I know it's not much of a consolation, and this suggestion might seem in poor taste for some, but Assassin's Creed Unity has a full-sized replica of Notre-Dame and its interior. If I recall correctly, the only difference is the organ design which is copyrighted for some reason, so they altered it.

(Yeah this is horrible but at least no one got hurt, judging by the emotional reaction here you'd think there was a mass genocide occurring before our very eyes)
