Except it wasn't, and the level of violence displayed already ensures it will get a particular time slot at evo and espn. This is entirely a political decision and given the subject matter it isn't really going to win more favors, just generate less negative press.
As for the hypocrisy of that stance in general, America simply has to wait to grow up to the rest of the world's standard on what mature content is, and in the current political climate that'll prolly be in 25 years or so, just in time for San Francisco to be drowned off the map, forcing all the hipster sex negative latte mafia to rub dirty uncultured elbows with less uptight denizens in the fly-between states. Que Lastima.
We'll reach the point where women in games are only allowed if they wear burkas and that will be labeled as "progressive".
