• Randy Pitchford claims Steam might be a dying platform in 5-10 years.

At this point I don't think it's Epic money, I think Randy just enjoys being a contrarian asshole because of the attention it gives him.
Randy Pitchford is just a delusional idiot who clearly does not know what he is talking about. Steam has 12+ million concurrent users, if this is what a dying platform looks like to Pitchford then what does a living platform look like? I seriously doubt that millions of users will flock from Steam to EGS, especially considering that EGS is a barebones platform missing features that Steam and other platforms offer. As much as I want Valve to release another game, I seriously doubt that them releasing a game will stop EGS.
A living platform is one that pays him. Simple.
Uh. Yes? Like in the early 2000s steam itself did have competition in the form of Real Arcade or Direct2Drive and the like. They don't exist anymore, and most of the games that were published on there have moved to Steam due to Steam being the better platform. But it didn't get there alone. Nobody would be using Steam if Halflife 2 and Counterstrike (two immensely popular games!) didn't require it. Fucks sake, I only got into Steam and Half-Life because Garrys Mod, which I read about in a buttload of magazines at the time, required it. Timed exclusives are only the first step. I mean be real, if Epic manages to eclipse Steam like Steam eclipsed Real Arcade or Direct2Drive then do you think that the exclusives are still going to be timed?
Local man incapable of shutting up
For fucks sake I thought we were past this drama. Randy is a scumfuck asshole, pirate everything he sells from here on out. I've said it and many others have too, but the hate boner for steam is unjustified in literally every way.
Stop giving Pitchford a platform to yell at people from.
Only way steam dies is if Valve themselves kill it
To be fair, they've been trying as hard as possible to do so for the last 10 years.
Fun Fact: I only ever play (and paid for) Quake Champions because I don't need Bethesda's trash anymore, regardless of the population of the game being a dying breed.
2 Reasons not to. Randy Pitchford is a shit CEO and doesn't care about you/the consumer, he constantly lies and denies doing so, he's a shit stain on gaming and needs to fuck off. Tim Sweeney is a shit CEO and doesn't about you/the consumer, he cares about making as much money as he can for Epic Games, even that means forcing people onto their platform, it's them or nobody else, he's also a shit stain and also needs to fuck off. If you buy Borderlands 3 on EGS, you accept Randy Pitchford and Tim Sweeney treating you like an idiot. If you buy Borderlands 3 on console, you accept Randy Pitchford treating you like an idiot, it might not be as bad on console since it's just a disc or a digital download and Microsoft aren't bad, but you still accept Randy being a dick weed and giving people the middle finger. If you buy the game, you're making a decision for everyone else, this kind of thing should not be accepted, if you really want to play the game, I actually advocate piracy in this case, normally I'm against that shit but this is a case where it's acceptable, is it morally right? It's questionable, but fuck them for trying to fuck us. Don't argue with me either that two wrongs don't make a right, I'm well aware that piracy is wrong, but as I said, this is a case where it's acceptable, I don't want to just sit by and accept this kind of thing in gaming, I don't want this shit to become the norm and I don't want other people to either, I really want to play Borderlands 3 but I am not giving money to either company for it, I'll pay for it when it comes to Steam, because then I'm sending a message that I'll only buy it when I have the choice to buy it, where I want to buy it, not where they want me to buy it, if Gearbox had their own launcher and put it on there only, I'd accept that because I accept Ubisoft and EA doing this with their games, it's their right to publish their games on their own Platforms, but this is a case of someone with lots of money, throwing it around and being an arsehole and then a CEO of a company accepting that money when there's no fucking reason to do so, Randy's just being a greedy arsehole and thinks nothing badly of what he's doing, he's a fucking moron and justifies everything with his own dog shit logic. Anyway end of rant, tl;dr, pirating Borderlands 3 is fine in this case because Randy is garbage and so is Tim Sweeney, stop making decision that affect everyone else, not just yourself.
I'm not at all surprised that Pitchford would be the one to suck Epic's dick so openly.
The only thing dying around here is Gearbox's reputation as a developer. Go impress some kindergartners with your magic tricks, Randy.
no the more people aware how fucking stupid he is the better
??? This is demonstrably false
money only goes so far, and that's really the only thing pulling devs towards them If for some reason Fortnite crashed, they'd be pretty fucked.
I used it for World War Z and when I went to close it while downloading, it stated my download progress would be lost.
Another thing is, this kind of shit doesn't happen in other media. You don't see this kind of shit in music, movies, tv, or anything else. They have to do what consumers want, but for some reason people in the game industry are the opposite. They want to bully us into doing what they want, and if we don't obey their will we're apparently whiny entitled shits. I am sick of this. Video games are supposed to be fun for everybody. The developer, the consumer, and whoever's in the middle. It's not supposed to be this toxic fucking everywhere and it wasn't until this corporate greed mindset shoved its dick into it. My hobby is radio control, and the two biggest players in the game are Traxxas and Horizon Hobby (who now owns tower hobby, for whoever cares and doesn't know) and they LOVE customer feedback, and we love giving it to them. There is times where they even straight up ask "what do you guys want next?" And it's just good for everyone. Tl;Dr I'm sick of the toxicity in gaming on all sides and everyone needs to chill the fuck out.
I legit got surprised when you said that other hobbies aren't like this. I thought this toxicity was just a thing every hobby had, to this extent, maybe even more. This is also why I stick with Nintendo, they at least act like they give a shit about the consumer, I've yet to have them fuck me over, treat me like shit.
i wonder just how much more divided the pc community can get
Just tried it with a random game, says that it'll stop the install but it still saves progress when you reopen it
Huh, that's good to know. I wasn't about to play chicken with the thing I was downloading for 3 hours with 5 to go.
It pains me to see people not give a crap about their own rights as consumers but then again, we're in an age where instead of paying 15$ for DLC that gives us more than 3 extra hours of fun, we pay 20$ for a singular skin Hence why I never really adhered to skins in CSGO. There just isn't much of a point. How did we get here anyway?
It definitely pauses and lets you resume your download, I tried even quitting whilst downloading and it did the same. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/107201/787a46e6-604e-4c5a-8b41-ebe22cc7a436/EGS Download.mp4
That's because when Nintendo treats you like a 6 year old, it's because they're trying to give you some fun colored blocks or a toy race car. Other companies send you to time out because you were outside playing for half a second too long and then just yell at you.
It's times like this that I wish Total Biscuit was still around, that guy had some weight behind him; if there was anyone who people would listen to, it was him, I think his lack of influence is what's helping the games industry to become as bad as it has done, I don't believe it would be nearly as bad as it is now if he was still around.
I never really cared for him myself but you're definitely right. This shit has ballooned since people like him either left us, or stopped don't ng criticism.

Oh boy, it's this article again. As I've written in other places - some of the stuff he says makes sense IMO. My problem with his arguments is that they hinge on a gamble that Epic will actually flesh out their store in five months - and that is a huge risk, to which he follows up with "Borderlands pulls its weight and that weight tips the scales in our favor" - which again, isn't completely asinine. if Epic has any salt in their heads they'll actually fall for 2K / Pitchford's trap ( if it makes sense ) and if they don't - EPIC end up looking like idiots, the game is coming to Steam half a year later anyways, and they kissed their UE4 usage license fee / royalty (depending on agreement) goodbye in exchange of... most copies being sold on Steam
