• Fortnite devs are reportedly working “100 hour” weeks

you know, I could live with whole Epic exclusives stuff, but this crossed Epic into "go fuck yourself" territory for me. And despite 100 hour work weeks, I bet Save the World still feels like Fortnite's retarded unloved baby brother.
Appart from being outrageously exploitative - This doesn't even seem like a logical step production wise; To explain, i study computer science and we purposely get thought that spending so much time on a single feature usually leads to over engeneering , which in turn leads to making the initial product worse. Your mind will be melted because you spend so much time on something, you will be stressed because you have to meet deadlines and everything else that the quality of your work just goes down the drain. Reading the article just confirms to me that epic is just outrageously incompetent anf that they can seriously fuck them selfs from now on.
Yes, they're based in North Carolina, right up the road from me. Also, if they sued, they unfortunately wouldn't have a leg to stand on because epic would, and will, simply say "we didn't force them to."
the US, and NC where they're based, has no laws capping hours worked nor does the US have any laws requiring breaks or rest of any kind. If you choose to not work 100 hours, your employer can just fire you.
The Untied States is really ass backwards in a LOT of ways. I often describe us as a third world country that just happens to have enough money to disguise itself
My last job had me working 70 hours a week. And I can tell you right now 70 hours is fucking awful. I can't imagine working another 30 hours. That's ridiculous. More than a week of that I don't see how anyone could actually muster the strength do it.
Another L for Tim Sweeny
Goddamn, there are 168 hours in a week. You'd literally be working more in a week than not, let alone sleep. That's fucking insane.
And don't forget commutes, if it's 1 hour each way there's not even time to sleep a full 8 hours.
now that's a bit unfair I mean a lot of third world countries have universal healthcare
That, and if they can afford to pay 100 hour weeks they can afford to double their workforce and only pay 50 hour checks every week.
I doubt it's paid overtime
Well I changed jobs a month ago and now I work for the state that has 37.5 hour work week, which is on a flex time schedule. And if I get over 40 it’s comp. Glad I made the change, because I’m not hating work anymore.
I went from 10 hour shifts to 6 and I'm loving it. Honestly, if I could find part time paying 25/hr, I'd probably be quite happy. Work life balance? Checkarooni.
Maybe, but a bigger dev team does not equal a better dev team. Either way these hours are fucking ridiculous, there's not way these people are remaining fully productive or sane with these hours.
If the job is mindlessly repetitive churning out of low-poly MTX assets then, yeah, a bigger team is better. Hire on more asset creators so nobody has to work such ridiculous hours. You have a point when it comes to story, engine creation, stuff like that, but what the Fortnite devs are doing is not something that's so specialized that it needs a small, close knit team to do.
