MK11's Krypt/Towers is Always Online, Grindy and Microtransaction-filled

Because it didn't need "fixing" in their eyes, people complained and they thought shit best do something to make us look a little bit decent
Door-in-the-face technique is pretty common practice in this model nowadays, start with outrageous demands to gather media attention, then be the "good guy" and sweeten the deal a bit.
If people didn't bitch about it, they win by earning big; if people bitch about it, they win by those who compulsively spend, plus brownie points for "listening to the community".
Don't forget other unforgettable gems like Poker 2000, Stuart Little 3, Bee Movie The Game and Shadow the Hedgehog
Hey the fighting game part is great, ya know the part that the actual dev's made.
Why you put 4 games in there twice?
What a damn shame considering i've heard that, aside from the grindfest loot system, its actually a fun game.
Hopefully they resolve it down the line.
They will fix it once the hype train dies down and everyone stop buying copies and MTX, just like Shadow of War
you don't even have to go near the trash tho, everything actually related to the fighting game part is already unlocked
The game is actually fantastic, and a grind in a fighting game is a nice incentive to stay playing I think.
BUT this is ridiculous, the krypt is mostly randomised, most stuff is filled with fluff (icons, banners, consumables etc), and towers of time is ultra-unfun hard as balls where to complete them you need to use consumables found in the krypt in the first place or else deal with shit like fighting two guys at the same times while unblockable missiles fly around the screen. And they actively hid this until the day it came out, saying there are no lootboxes and shit. It's even worse because everything else is great, it's like getting a very expensive and delicious meal and having somebody just take a shit on it.
Boy I really thought WB would learn from the negative PR of Shadows of War not to try this shit. I guess I'm not buying anything from them for a while
XB360 days? Son, that stuff was starting to show it's head back then, on-disc DLC and DLC proper.
I guess if the gambling crates aren't sold directly to you it doesn't count as lootboxes because the Krypt is essentially a maze of lootboxes.
They used this loophole to incentivize purchasing in their limited-time-fortnite-cash-shop.
The western triple A industry is such a joke now there's rarely anything good or original coming out of it anymore, mostly because publishers are the greediest motherfuckers ever.
I miss the pre gen 7 industry.
After the Persona 5 fiasco, i don't even know if the reporter was allowed to fact check shit or even finish a first draft before it was posted online.
So why should anyone even take this news outlet seriously in the slightest?
This is just business as usual.
Yeah but isn't it craftier to introduce lootbox shit down the line? If it's not extremely inconveniencing and only mildly so then you'll have a guy like me praising a game for not having the nonsense only for it to be too late for me to retract my words later
(Black Ops 4 did just this. I like the game and I haven't bought a single skinnerbox from it but ffs, there's a compliment for the game I now have to retract. If it was as bad as Krypts here then you'd have another Battlefront 2 fiasco - which I hope this becomes)
see they hid all the bullshit behind it being so woke and progressive
oh yeah apparently the notroversy here is that Jax wants to help facilitate a better life for other POC and that Shao Kahn yells "LETS MAKE THE OTHERWORLD GREAT AGAIN!" as a battlecry. Consertative thinking is apparently under attack because character development and jokes.
Come the fuck on. If this game was "Leftist SJW Propoganda" then it'd be way more obnoxious about it.
Just imagine shitting through the bullshit from buying day one and the servers can't handle the load and crash on launch.

Then the people who waited a few days got $10 off.
If you want to know how bad it is.
Literally the second TUTORIAL TOWER starts with a character who's abilities steal your health, and summons homing blood missiles. And this is the easiest tower mission.
This is the shit that Injustice 2 had for their multiverses, but like, these modifiers were the gimmicky max difficulty fights
This mostly affects the casual side of the game. Even then the game oozes of easter eggs and love for the franchise, not just the game but the series as a whole, including the movies. MK11 is basically a love letter to everything Mortal Kombat.
So you know this crappy shit wasn't the devs decision but WB being greedy fucks and wanting them to implement microtransactions on a full-priced game with planned DLC. They clearly didn't mention any of this because it was something they most likely didn't enjoy implementing at all and would rather focus on what fans wanted: the fighters and the mechanics.
They already said everything related to the fighters abilities is unlocked and there are no stats/skills attached to equipment anymore, unlike Injustice 2. I don't know Ed Boon personally but he's basically in the front lines taking the hits for decisions he or his team probably would've refused to implement if it wasn't in their contract with WB.
I think they tried their best to minimize the effect of microtransactions and it's why some towers ended up really weirdly fucking hard. Probably was the last thing in their minds.
The game is great. Just a shame it has this small stain that soured some player's moods. Totally understandable but highly doubtful it was a developer's decision at the core, seeing how much passion and love was put into MK11. It doesn't add up, to me at least.
At least you don't have to unlock movesets.
Fucking Injustice 2 has an item for one of the characters that full on turns them into another character, an item so rare that most people didn't even know it existed.
I won't say it's not long, but this is also not correct. It just counts time crystals to unlock shit, which is not the whole pictures. You also unlock stuff skins by completing towers and getting them through the krypt, using other currency that wasn't calculated in this article.
Still a garbage system tho
There are trainers etc popping up that allow you to have infinite life, instant kill etc so even if they want to make everything server side it's easy to just quick farm the hardest towers for gear/paid currency.
Who knows if they have the means to detect this/punish people though, there's a leaderboard etc for towers so I assume they might have the metrics to check if someone is obviously cheating.
It’s literally one arcade ending
