When it started to seem not to effect their sales much if at all.
https://twitter.com/SatisfactoryAF/status/1121300538673586178 https://twitter.com/BakerMcGeez/status/1121396421700325376 I'm not here to encourage piracy but that's a sick retort and one any studio who takes Epic's money and then sees dismal sales should think hard about.
I hope they really sold 9 copies. Them trying to guilt people that didn't buy their game because it hurts their developers is the biggest joke I've ever seen. I hope the idiot in charge over there personally apologies to every developer on the team for his failure before they go under.
Don't be, Epic paid them in the millions, they're not gonna go hungry. Probably they're suffering because they're seeing that their bullshit wasn't justified sales-wise, what's the point of working on a game if no-one's playing it, it's a morale hit. That is if this is true and they aren't bullshitting, 9 copies for a game that's actually pretty decent and got some big streamers cover it sounds like bullshit.
Oof, there goes all my interest in their game. Write a fucken book about it, crybabies. It's not our fault you took the asshole route and just shit all over your fans.
How does a fee the UE charges related to marketplaces at all
Even if Steam is more costly to developers and possibly consumers, I will still choose it simply because Valve themselves doesn't treat their employees like shit.
Epic waives the fee if you use EGS iirc.

They're memeing so hard it looks like a real twitter meltdown.
Maybe they are only pretending and they actually are having a meltdown.
Ironic meltdowns are still meltdowns
Sorry to break up your schadenfreude guys, but: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113610/d2ff9c24-cf0d-43ff-8280-c6fcb8ce4dd0/image.png and if you search their game on YouTube, you can see a lot of people are playing it. Sorry, but they're bullshitting y'all.
They opened alpha signups a year back so it's totally concievable that the playerbase is not exclusively nine people who bought the game on EGS after it launched in Early Access. Besides, who's to say those people aren't pirates? Remember the Game Dev Tycoon devs' deliberately-seeded pirated copy with a rigged endgame that always caused you to fail (as your studio's games got pirated, lol) -- and when they published their blog shaming pirates who complained on public forums about the "sudden failures" in their pirated copies, an unmistakeably-from-FP post was included in the gallery of shame. And Game Dev Tycoon also revealed that they had been pirated at like a 97% rate; if we assume Satisfactory was pirated 97 times for every 3 copies sold, then that's ~300 pirated copies in the wild and we know from history that many of them will be shameless about posting as if they were legit owners. They could be bullshitting us but you'll need more evidence than that.
well to be fair most of steam's features are broken or useless anyway Not that this would matter to the consumer, a lower cut for valve would mean a bigger profit margin for the devs, not lower prices for the consumers
Ah my fucking god with this tired argument, I'm going to boil it down to one sentence: You're arguing against your own interests for people who give 0 fucks about you, and who you really shouldn't give a shit about either.
Lol calm down I'm not arguing for epic games, just saying that a lower cut from valve for less features wouldn't actually be a bad deal, since they're not really worth their salt
In what way are they "not worth their salt"? They provide everything for a developer. A storefront, free patch pushing, free cloud hosting, free community forum, integrated cloud savegames, mod databases, the list goes on. Literally how is that not good? And how is what epic offers better? Protip: it's not better.
While I doubt that they actually have 9 people who bought the game. This is undoubtedly a bad post on the part of the developers. No matter their past or present cases of shitposting, their blatant disregard for grievances really does sour the image of that team. It does say a lot they rather go on a tangent about the alleged " Man Baby " and " his whining " for not getting what he wants.. https://twitter.com/SatisfactoryAF/status/1121300538673586178 https://twitter.com/SatisfactoryAF/status/1121714815351885825 No matter your stances of piracy ( I don't condone it, but understand the reasons why it happens ), you cannot deny the responses to criticism are out of line.
Would you mind providing some evidence as to which features are broken?
Again, I'm not arguing for epic games. I just don't think the features you listed are worth the 30% cut. I think a smaller cut and fewer features would be more attractive. Especially considering that the client just doesn't work that well, it takes ages to load even on a fast connection, it's unresponsive, it tends to crash. It's like browsing the web with internet explorer in 2005. And this is the user experience valve wants 30% for? I don't think they deserve it. Even Origin or GoG Galaxy are miles better in basic functionality.
Think its pretty funny that when something announces its epic exclusive all interest seems to just drop. There was some buzz around satisfactory but when it went epic everyone just dropped it like a sack of shit. Same thing with Outer Worlds, there was a bunch of hype on it but then epic stepped in and I havent seen anything about it since.
Pretty late but https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/108619/9f33fb04-1dff-4238-bf49-904c14953a21/image.png
Doesn't the payment processing fees come out of Valve's share? I'm pretty sure even with the lowest cost options possible, Valve is paying processing fees + intercharge, that's going to be north of 3% combined already. Then you add the fact that they take all sorts of random payment options, and from "riskier" countries... I'd like to see Tim Fuckface commit to a permanent 88/12.
Right, I'm pretty sure these big name YouTubers are pirating the game https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/113610/a66fb447-0ed2-4f13-aa73-ef07fb375904/image.png Do you seriously think something with these guys attached to it would only have 9 copies purchased? Markiplier is on episode 3 (which was the last gameplay video he did), Jack is on episode 7. Both of these guys have over 20 MILLION subscribers. You think these guys would risk controversy by playing pirated copies, along with their friends? I'm sorry, but I don't believe these developers one bit, especially since the game's been in Alpha for quite some time.
You are ignoring this entire sentence here so you can strawman what I said about piracy and I'm not letting you get away with it. But whether they actually generated a total of nine sales on EGS and everyone else including big-name YouTubers who by all rights should have no problem buying the game is pirating it at the risk of being called out because the sales list is allegedly nine names long, or they're lying for sympathy as part of a longer Twitter meltdown is irrelevant. I'm not defending these guys or suggesting people should have sympathy for them. After all, EGS already guaranteed them sales for however many tens of thousands of copies in exchange for a year exclusivity and it's not my problem if their choice of risky business move and their game don't turn out to move shitloads of copies. They should recognize that they've done a deal with the devil -- they've had months to see the Internet get angry about their EGS timed exclusivity deal so they shouldn't be surprised.
I still have no clue what you're arguing. Are you arguing that they're lying or not?
The Satisfactory stuff is really disappointing. The games fun as as hell, but yeah... Yikes.
It's almost like review copies are a thing
Did you guys seriously believe that the game to only sold 9 copies in total? Be realistic for a bit, it isn't a bad game by all means, and so much more people aren't on board the anti-EGS crusade.
