I think it depends on the circumstances. Vegans I know wouldn't mind consuming an egg so long as it was not forced upon the chicken. In a farm, they are forced to produce eggs in vile circumstances (well, most of them anyway). Same with milk. They are exploited for our own gain, so if a vegan believes in that, then it makes absolute sense that they would not consume mass produced milk/eggs. I do agree with your last point, I eat meat and consume animal products and understand the moral issues behind it, but I accept it and live with it. I have zero guilt eating an egg from a happy and well looked after chicken, like if you kept them yourselves as pets.
Depends on the country and what products you buy. Dairy cows moo in the mornings to get milked; if not it can become uncomfortable for her udder being swollen. Some sheep need to be shaved, this is like a haircut and doesn't hurt the sheep. PETA tried to lie about this. As long chickens got a sizable coop, food, shelter and proper sanitary conditions. There are no harm for the chickens. I can recommend reading about the animal and local laws; E.G. Beak trimming is an inhumane way for chickens, to force them to live under worse conditions. Since having them in inhumane conditions, makes them peck each other and self more. Free-Range. I always make sure to buy free-range products when I can and try to follow up on the different product-marks we have in Denmark. By buying free-range eggs, I know that the hens had access to a free-range for the whole day. (Do note that in USA; Free-Range is a ‘market term’. It doesn’t set a standard for the quality, size or the duration of time an animal must have access to the outside. Additionally, there are no legal definitions for free-range eggs.)
Aren’t the cows only producing milk because they’re forced to be impregnated? I think a lot of Vegans don’t participate in those industries because they are apart of the meat industry as well. Therefore giving profits to the meat farms. The honey thing is dumb though, bees make honey with no harm as far as I know.
From what I understand, bees don't really appreciate having their honey taken. It's not like they make it for us after all.
I think I watched a documentary about this staring Jerry Seinfeld.
I got worse news if you like dogs or cats. The only way to change the industry for better animal-living conditions, are to buy the products that are animal friendly. Boycotting the whole industry, are only forcing the current good companies to cut down. Degrating the living conditions for the animals. As long the bees know the keeper, they can operate without a suit nearby the hive. (We have had bee-hives for over 7,000 years. Dogs 10,000 years ago.) Hives will generate more honey than the colony needs, this is the part being harvested.
To add to this, it is up to th bee keeper to help the hive when times are bad. They provide protein powder and syrup to supplement a hive's usual diet when things get tough like droughts. It is a symbiotic relationship that is going on. Bee keeper wants honey, bees want to keep hive going. Bee keeper has to provide and watch over hive for any issues. Rinse and repeat.
I’m curious what’s worse with cats and dogs?
Puppy mills/kitten mills. People who put cats and dogs in cramped kennels and cages to force them to breed, then sell the kittens and puppies. The dogs and cats generally live in horrendous conditions, and these places frequently get raided by animal control and law enforcement agencies.
Not sure, there's a lot of Vegan cafe's in chicago that are packed all of the time. Seems pretty lucrative to me.
Oh but yeah I'm against all of those things. I think there should be stricter regulation on Pets. In fact I had a lot of issues with a neighbor neglecting and leaving their puppy out in the rain all day with no dog house. Crying all day/night because theyd never take care of it. I called ASPCA and such on them. It was pretty much impossible to make a case against them because unless the owner is severely beating their dog, the cops aren't able to do anything.
Yeah but sexism is prejudice plus power you see. It's all just a device to enable one's resentment while also feeling morally superior. Kinda impressive how far they'll go to feel good about being terrible people.
