There is no need to be so harsh. Paramount's elite team of illegally blind 3D artists are doing the best that they can.
...if you ignore all the work, time and cost that goes into CGI, sure. With that argument there's no difference with live action. "they can just reshoot!"
The point is that some things take more work to change than others. Some changes to sonic's model don't require reworking entirely the scenes and doing all the work from scratch, some would. And with all the sunk cost and work on the movie they already have, it's likely they're going to go with design changes that don't require them to make major reworks, stuff like changing the eyes a bit etc.
If they were faithful to the original design, they'd need to give him large gloves. Imagine if they already animated the whole movie with him interacting with things with his bare hands. All thoses scenes are to be remade. Not likely they'll do that.
I still feel like this is going to be the difference between the leaked cut of X Men Origins Wolverine, and the actually released version. It's still going to suck, just with slightly less laughable CGI.
The animators would be in cronch time if they have to reanimate the entire movie. I think whatever they'll do will be very minute changes to his face while maintaining the same body structure/skeleton so most animations can stay.
Plus actor eyelines and such, he’d have to stay at the same height for some scenes.
Just delete Sonic and replace him with nothing.
Already a better movie.
Why is there a Sonic movie, anyway? Sonic games are pretty much terrible with the exception of the first and Spinball
Look at this nerd, probably doesn't even know what the Chao Garden is.
its all about having their own sonic, you just aren't going to get hundreds of artists and directors to agree to make it look exactly like the cartoon sonic, look at the grimdark horror of Detective Pikachu, they've shown cg rendered pokemon in commercials for years but they decided to go a totally different route anyways as well.
From personal experience, Sonic 1-3 & Knuckles, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania were all good.
Yeah, just have an insane Dr. Robotnik run around and try to kill a non-existent blue hedgehog-human hybrid. I'd watch that movie.
Eggman grapples with his decline into lsd addiction, the movie
Just do this

I wish they used the video game voice actor for the movie. The new one here doesn't sound right, especially with the awful design.
They'd better fucking delay the movie then, those poor animators
They're going to ruin the perfect cumulation of schlock and incompetence. How could they do this?
Those first two images actually look great! I think the Sonic Unleashed model would look weird in the context of the real world.
I know that Sega doesn't make as much as the whole industry, but the videogames industry is actually larger than Hollywood. Why has this not led to the video games artists getting more control over adaptations?
it isn't like you can snap your fingers and it's fixed
You can if your finger snap activates a 500 thousand line 3D correction script.
That's not what he said at all

No original Sonic voice actor, No popular Sonic music, not even close to the original sonic design.
Why even make the Sonic movie in the first place?
No$talgia Buck$
But wouldn't a lot of the Nostalgia come from things being exactly how people remember it? I doubt the name alone is going to do very much in terms of nostalgia.
Perhaps more accurately, they're banking on people caring about a named product from their childhood and it's legacy. Kinda like how the Doom movie was banking on people going to see it cause it's
called Doom, despite having nothing to do with Doom apart from a few things.
The weird thing here is that sonic is already established well outside of its legacy- Its had several shows on television games across five generations of consoles
The type of movie they are making is absurd from a financial standpoint. If you want to make toys and stuff it would make more sense to make a dreamworks/pixar style animated feature to capture that aesthetic that people liked from the start. By making sonic "photoreal" and placing him in this limited world you have a small chance of making a good movie but not much aside
Games like doom, Resident Evil, Silent Hill all were trying to look real as they could at the time (and come damn close now). Sonic is a bad platformer but has potential as a platform for small fuzzy
animals fighting an evil robot master over jewels. With the concept they have now its going to cost a lot of money to expand on.
You think that's bad? I know someone who was involved with writing said script. Imagine how much second hand embarrassment I feel.
that movies trailer managed to make gangsta's paradise annoying in one go and i didn't think it was possible
OOOOAAAAAH OOOA-OOAH-OOAH OOAH OOAH OOOOO-like jesus christ also why gangsters paradise out of all music, where does it even fit in
